Sunday 10.00am John Haslam Gallagher Family.
LENT
Wednesday of this week is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of our Lenten preparation for the celebration of the
Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. One of the Lenten prefaces prays : ‘Father, each year you give us
this joyful season when we prepare to celebrate the Paschal Mystery with heart and mind renewed.’
Through the traditional practices of prayer, fasting and alms giving we are called to continue conversion that
we may turn back to God once more.
Ash Wednesday Ashes will be distributed during Mass at 9am and again at 7.00pm.
Fasting and Abstinence are two of the ways in which we can express sorrow for our sins and do penance.
This is especially so on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday but also on other days, especially Fridays.
1. Those aged between 18 - 59 should fast by limiting what they eat to one main meal. Other food such as
snacks, may be consumed so long as this does not constitute a meal.
2. Those aged over fourteen should also abstain from eating meat.
Neither fasting or abstinence is to be practised by those who are sick or elderly.
This may be an opportune moment to remind ourselves that neither food or drink, other than water, should be
consumed an hour before receiving communion.
Mass Times. There will be an additional Mass each day during the week : Monday to Thursday at 7.30am;
and Friday 7pm preceded by Stations of the Cross. Please note there will be no 7.30am service on Fridays.
Confessions : During Lent, there will be additional opportunities to celebrate the Sacrament of
Reconciliation on Saturday 11am - Noon and 6.00 - 6.45pm. Please use the opportunities which are available
throughout the whole season of Lent and not leave it until Holy Week.
Stations of the Cross will be on Tuesdays during Lent at 2.30pm and Fridays at 7pm leading into Mass.
Lenten Alms ; Those who wish to do so are asked to use the wall-box next to St Anthony’s statue.
Tea after 10: tea and coffee will be served in the Parish Centre after Mass on Sunday. All welcome.
Coffee Morning : This will take place on Tuesday morning in the Parish Centre between 9.30
11.00am. All welcome.
Last week’s collection ; Gift Aid : £356.36 Loose Plate : £228.85 Total : £585.21. Many thanks.
Question of the Week : What opportunities are there during Lent for you to prepare worthily for
Eastertide?

Your Parish Priest: Fr. John Gorman
