Eligibility

The following are the criteria to appear for the exam:

a) Educational qualifications
General category candidates need to have a minimum of 60% marks in XII and 50% marks in
Graduation or Post-graduation.
SC/ST candidates need to have 55% marks in XII and 50% marks in Graduation or Post-
graduation.
Candidate must be computer literate.

b) Age limit

The age limit of the candidate must not be less than 21 years and more than 30 years.

c) Number of attempts

A General category candidate can attempt for a maximum of three times. This restriction is not
there for SC/ST/OBC candidates.

Selection Procedure:

There are two phases to qualify the exam. The first phase is a Written Test and the second phase
is an Interview. The following are the details:

Phase 1

Written test consists of the following two papers:


Objective
Descriptive

Note: Question paper will be in Hindi and English except the Test of English language.

The Objective Paper will be conducted for two hours and consists the following:Name of the test
Total Questions Time in minutes
Test of reasoning(high level) 75 50
Quantitative Aptitude 50 30
General Awareness 50 25
Test of computer literacy and English language 50 30

Note: There will be negative marking for wrong answers in Objective paper.

The Descriptive Paper called Test of English will be conducted for 45 minutes. Three out of four
questions have to be answered on a given situation with answers to be restricted to the space
provided in the question-cum-answer sheet.

The candidate is tested on the following:


Comprehension and analysis of situations
Generation of unique ideas
Language ability

Note: There will be no negative marking for wrong answers in Descriptive paper.

Phase 2

Interview will be conducted only for candidates who have cleared the written test. It consists of
the following:
Group Discussion for 20 marks
Personal Interview for 30 marks

General Tips for SBI PO Exam


You can prepare for the written sections by solving the previous papers.
Attempt a question only if you are sure of the answer.
For the General Awareness section read the newspaper and general knowledge books regularly.
Acquaint yourself with the booklet that you get when you apply for the exam. It has several useful
tips.
You must be thorough with the pattern of the question paper so that you do not waste time
understanding the format and instructions.
Meditate regularly for 15 minutes during preparation. This will help you to remain focused.
Prepare a study plan for yourself and follow it.
Brush up on your fundamentals of Mathematics and English.
Gather information on Banks. This will help you in the Interview.

Tips on Individual Sections

English Language

In this section, there will be questions regarding grammar, vocabulary and comprehension. The
following are the tips:
Practice more questions on sentence correction.
Read the comprehension questions first then go on to reading the passage. You can answer the
questions easily.
You can improve your vocabulary by reading English newspapers.

General Awareness, Marketing and Computers

In this section, there will be 35 questions on General awareness, ten questions on marketing and
five questions on computers. The following are the tips:
General awareness can be improved by reading old newspapers. You will be questioned mostly
on the incidents that occurred during the last one year, persons, places, Indian economy, budget,
sports and awards.

Note: Regional news may not be important.


Marketing questions can be answered by brushing up the fundamentals of marketing and basic
banking words.
Questions regarding computers can be answered easily by going through the computer basics
along with the shortcut keys and internet.

Data Analysis and Interpretation

The questions in this section are based on tables, charts; graph or bar diagrams. You can score
well in this section by doing the following:
Prepare the various ways of presenting the relation between two numbers.
Learn the various ways of presenting data such as tables, graphs etc.
Test of Reasoning

In this section, you will have Analytical and Logical Reasoning questions. The following are the
tips:
Analytical reasoning will include questions on data arrangement and selection criteria.
Logical reasoning will include questions on
Statement – Assumption
Statement – Conclusion
Statement – Course of Action
Statement – Arguments and Degrees of Truth

Descriptive Test:

This section will have questions based on essays, letter writing and Précis. Your written skills are
tested here.
