Ethics is branch of philosophy dealing with how humans are suppose to live by determining what

is right and wrong. It gives the analysis of how one conducts his/herself morally in the society. It

is moral guide in all sphere of life such as at home, school, businesses, work place or any other

social place. Culture as away of life depends on the ethical behaviour t of oneself. Ethical studies

are very instrumental and valuable. In business, ethics is concerned with moral conduct in the

business context. The interest in business ethics by business leaders, academics or society as a

whole is raised by occurrences of scandal such as corruption. Ethics in business is determined by

not only the general norms, the country’s legal structure such as taxation, institutions and hopes.

The availability and roles played by the non-governmental bodies. (Fredrick). Also, pressure

groups such as median and the activeness to critically investigate and expose how business

activities are carried out. 236. Laws provide the legal framework for what kind of business to be

carried out. 236. Comparing the east and west cultures, there is a tremendous differences in a

number of ways. These include reflection of attitude, values and societal norms limited on

applicability (sims etl Michailove, 2000). The observed difference in the workplaces is the

culture of individualism and collectivism. In the USA individualists decide and act upon the

basis whether the action is for personal gain. On the other hand, in Japan, collectivists act by

considering group viewpoint. (sims etl Hofstede, 2001).). Sim setl considers the value of

individualists as independent and self sufficient while for the collectivists as socially related

which involves sharing of materials and therefore maintaining a socialized network of

reciprocation.(2) (Hutchings & Murray, 2003 Confucian dynamism is also a significance

different culture that exists between japan and USA. Confucian dynamism is the dimension that

measures to which any culture can emphasize values oriented in the future in contrast to those

that are short tem oriented i.e. past and present. Japan has high Confucian dynamism scores that
can be associated with values such as hard work, persistence, respect and concept of time. These

values indicate a dynamic and future oriented mentality. While the shot term orientation, these

nations have low Confucian dynamism as witnessed in the USA. Their values represent a static

mentality that is only focussed on the past and the present.

How government and businesses relate vary from one country to another. Fredrick explains that

in Japan this relationship is considered comparatively close. The government and a number of

big corporations are closely interlinked as compared to the relationship of the US government

and its businesses. This in effect, practices considered ethical in by a country is not necessarily

ethical to another country. Therefore, it becomes a difficulty in dealing with international

business as with respect to the ethics creating restraints. The extent to which a business operates

in a different is determined by the varieties of background conditions. Ethics in management has

also been observed to vary from one country to another. In Japan the Europeans standard have

weaken the supervisory roles of the boards. As a result of this, they therefore do not oversee the

management (valance and Elizabeth). The Japanese have long-term commitment to making

decisions business and projects that result to systems where the shareholders short term demands

for their return on investment becomes less influential as compared to the USA, where the senior

managers are focussed on the long-term as the company’s strategy (valance and Elizabeth)
