Check-in Seite 60f.

1  A new life  SB Seite 60f. 1.18

A  Read about Lukasz and answer the questions.

gabe.
Lösung:
1 He was born in Poland.
2 He moved to England in 2005. He lives in Danbury.
3 He worked first as a plumber.
4 Three years ago he started his own small building firm.

Unit 5

Lösung:
Lukasz has lived in Danbury since 2005.
He has had his building firm for three years.

C  Your friend wants to know about the article but (s)he doesn’t speak English. …
Sprachmittlung Englisch-Deutsch.

2  A magazine article  SB Seite 62f. 1.19

A  Read this magazine article about a famous British chef. Find out …
B konzentrieren.
Lösung:
1 School was hard for Jamie because he’s dyslexic.
2 They are chefs in one of Jamie’s restaurants.
3 That’s his wife Juliette, ‘Jools’.

B  Which is right? Note down a, b or c.

Lösung:
1–c  Jamie Oliver was born in the south-east of England.
2–b  He first worked in a kitchen in his parents’ pub.
3–a  Jamie trained to be a chef in London.
4–c  He was first on TV in 1998.
5–c  Jamie trained 15 unemployed young people for his Fifteen restaurant in London.
6–b  Jamie now has Fifteen restaurants in three countries.
7–c  Jamie first met his wife at school and they have four children.

C  Finish the How long …? sentences about Jamie.

  2000 now

Jamie married He has been married

Jools in 2000. to Jools since 2000/
for over 13 years.
Lösung:
1 He has worked as a chef since 1992.
2 He has been famous since 1998.

49
Unit 5

3 He has had a Fifteen restaurant in London since 2002.

4 He has had a Fifteen restaurant in Australia for XY years. (je nach aktueller Jahreszahl; seit 2006)
5 He has been married to Jools for XY years. (je nach aktueller Jahreszahl; seit 2000)

D  Ask and answer questions with a partner like those on the right.
How long has Jamie Oliver worked as a chef? – He has worked as a chef since 1992.
How long has he been famous? – He has been famous since 1998.
How long has he been married to Jools? – He has been married to her since 2000.

3  We have our own firm!  SB Seite 64f.

A  Read about Kate, Annie and Ruth.
Lösung:
1 They live in Danbury in England.
2 They were all students at Danbury FE college.
3 After college, they started their own firm in the town.
4 It organises parties for schools, local firms and local kids.

B  A reporter from the Danbury newspaper is interviewing Kate, Annie and Ruth about their firm. … 1.20

Person Singular/Plural)
oder als außenstehende Dritte (also in der 3. Person Singular/Plural).
1 We’re all 23./They’re all 23.
2 Kate was on a business course. Annie was on an electronics course. Ruth was on a cookery course.
3 We’ve had our firm for five years./They’ve had their firm for five years.
4 Kate is the ‘businesswoman’ in the firm. (She organises the parties, talks to the customers, looks after the
money and so on.) Annie is the DJ, the disk jockey. (She plays the music at the parties.) Ruth cooks the food for
the parties.
5 At first, they didn’t have an office and they didn’t have a kitchen. They worked in Kate’s parents’ house. It was
a bit small, but it was OK. Kate’s parents were great and they helped them a lot.
6 They’ve been there for two years now.

Hörtext
Reporter:  Kate, Annie, Ruth, hi. I’m Mike from the Danbury News. Thanks very much for this interview.
Women:  Hi. No problem. You’re welcome.
Reporter:  Great. OK, can I ask you first: how old are you?
Kate:  We’re all 23.
Reporter:  You were all friends at Danbury FE College, is that right?
Annie:  Yes, that’s right.
Reporter:  What courses were you on at college? Kate?
Kate:  I was on a business course.
Reporter:  Were you on a business course too, Annie?
Annie:  No, I was on an electronics course.
Reporter:  And you, Ruth?
Ruth:  I was on a cookery course. I wanted to be a chef.
Reporter:  And now you have the firm PartyPeople together. How long have you had the firm?
Annie:  Well, we started the firm when we left college, when we were 18. So we’ve had the firm now for five
years.
Reporter:  What do you all do in the firm? What’s your job, Kate?
Kate:  I was on a business course at college, so I’m the ‘businesswoman’ in the firm. I organise the parties,
talk to our customers, look after the money and so on.
Reporter:  Right. And what about you, Annie?
Annie:  I’m the DJ, the disk jockey. I play the music at the parties.
Reporter:  And you, Ruth?
Ruth:  Well, I was on a cookery course. I cook the food for our parties.
Reporter:  How did you start the firm? I mean, where did you cook the food and so on at first?
Kate:  At first, we didn’t have an office and we didn’t have a kitchen. We worked in my parents’ house. It
was a bit small, but it was OK. My parents were great and they helped us a lot.
Reporter:  But you have an office and a kitchen now?
Ruth:  We use an old pizzeria in the town. We cook the food in the kitchen and the restaurant is our office.
Reporter:  How long have you been there, in the old pizzeria, I mean?
Annie:  We’ve been there for two years now.
Reporter:  OK, that’s all. Thanks again.

C  You’re the reporter now. Finish your article about Kate, Annie and Ruth.
Kate, Annie and Ruth are now (1) 23 years old. They were all friends and students at (2) Danbury FE college.
Kate was on a (3) business course, Annie on an (4) electronics course and Ruth wanted to be a (5) chef. When

They cook the food in the kitchen and the (11) restaurant is their office. They have been in the pizzeria for (12)
two years.

about 16. He won a competition. “This is great!”, he thought. “I can earn money like this!” Two years later, when
