Increasing globalization is having major ramifications within the IT industry. The trend

has been most visible in the software development community in the form of " 77 # ," or

developing all or part of a software project in a country distant from the organization that

requires the software. Off- shoring has led to global software development teams with members

from at least two geographical regions collaborating on the same project. (Meyer, 2006)

A global team differs from a co-located team. Co-located teams will instinctively initiate

a process of informal collaboration. This is natural human behavior that gradually leads to

increasing trust and mutual understanding. When team members have established a trust

relationship, they will ask each other questions and proactively provide information. They will

also estimate each other's abilities better, which leads to more effective division of work.

(Broady, 2009)

In practice, team members get information necessary to perform their tasks largely from

peers, as opposed to formal, documented sources. To be able to tap this social resource, team

members need to build "social capital," meaning that they need to establish trust relationships

with their peers. (Becker, 2007)

(Vice Presidents to Functional Managers)

Setting Goals and objectives are the important step for a project, which is usually

done through SMART procedure i.e. S- Specificity, M- Measurable, A- Attainable, R-

Realistic and T- Time limited. After setting goal/objectives the most important step is

communicating them to the team.

c ÿ

In this given instance, The Vice ± President can make use of Video-conferencing

to communicate with all his functional managers and brief them on the Goals and

objectives of the project.

Overall, The Vice- President can make use of an Intranet software called Micro

soft Share Point Server- 2010 as an effective way to communicate the project goals and

details to all the fellow team members and in turn the functional managers can use this to

communicate the same to the team members of respective teams. The 2:in

effective way.
