Sales and Marketing The 2006 ATAG Tour met its first weather challenge this past
Manager Tuesday when the match had to be suspended after only the
“Pool Bar Dave” Nichols first two or three holes when a heavy rain and a crackling
lightning display forced the players to retreat to the Men’s
Editorial Assistant Grill to get an early start on the socializing. After about a 45
open minute delay, 14 of the original 16 players returned to the
course to complete the match while the other two withdrew due
to time constraints. Taking on the back nine on this protracted
day’s match, which ended at approximately 8:30 pm, were the
following reassembled teams:

Ansley Golf Club
1912 CLOSE MATCH! GUTT DQ’S!
196 Montgomery Ferry Dr
Atlanta, Ga 30309 The Team 2 fivesome of Doug Gooding, P.J. Wade, Danny
Morris, Ron Majors, and Tim Martin combined for a 9 under
score which was just good enough to edge out the Team 3
fivesome who came in at 8 under. Having to pony up was the
forlorn Team 1 who was abandoned by team mate Mike Gutt
on # 15 and had to finish as a threesome with a score of 1 over
(when informed of the amount of their deficit, they waived the
right for a 4th draw partner). Apparently the beleaguered Gutt,
winner of two of the last four Low Net purses, lost his focus
after the rain delay and, after firing two off the tee into the
pond, drove off in the cart he was sharing with Benning,
resulting in an immediate disqualification. He has been fined
$2 (to be deposited into next week’s pool), and a Letter Of
Reprimand has been placed in his file.

P.J. WADE WINS BOTH LOW NET

AND LOW GROSS! CORRIGAN SAILS
TO NEW HEIGHTS! BATELAAN HAS
A BAD DAY!
# 10
P. J. Wade followed last week’s 37 on the front nine with a 39
on the back which was good enough to win Low Gross as well
as collect the $16 prize money for the Low Net at 2 under,
narrowly edging out Bill Benning, Doug Gooding, and Don
Nichols who finished at a net 1 under. This marked the
second time this year when one player captured both honors—
the other being Henry Sawyer’s career round earlier this year.
This week’s “agony and defeat award” went to twenty eight
handicapper Frank Corrigan who completed his bad day by
blistering his way to a scorching 59, tying the all time ATAG
record set by Bill Benning in 2005. Also having a bad day was
nine handicapper Richard Batelaan who had his worst round
of the season after following his 40 on last week’s front nine
with a 10 over 46 on the back nine.

GOODING HAS SHOT OF THE DAY!

OTHERS HAVE NOTABLE SHOTS!
Sixteen handicapper Doug Gooding earned “Shot of the
Day” honors by holing out his sand shot on # 17--this after
landing in the trap after his shot from the bunker on the other
# 12
side of the green, effectively giving him a “double sandy par”
for the hole. Receiving honorable mention were Craig
Sellner for his 25 foot putt for par—net eagle on #15, Scotty
Greene for his approach shot on #14 which landed just outside
the leather to enable him to make birdie-net eagle, Don
Nichols for his 285 yard opening tee shot on # 10 (o.k., so it
received a free ride down the cart path), and Doug Healy, who
amused his playing partners by maneuvering his opening tee
shot under the bridge and onto the fairway to enable him to
make par-net birdie.

BIRDIES SCARCE!
The back nine gave up only two birdies on the day—one each
by P. J. Wade and Scotty Greene who added to their
collective total in the Birdie Club.

Ansley Tuesday Afternoon OTHER TIDBITS:
Golf Tour
Ansley Golf Club ● Despite finishing late, most of the players stayed on the
1912 porch until 9 pm to finish up the socializing that had begun earlier in
196 Montgomery Ferry Dr the Men’s Grill during the rain delay.
Atlanta, Ga 30309
Leaders In The
Clubhouse: ● Dick Pease made his first appearance of the 2006 season
and, despite not being able to resume play after the rain delay,
Low Gross: Bernhardt: 34
ATAG Record: Reese: 33made the effort to drive out to the course and hand the
Commissioner his $1 contribution to the Low Net Purse.
Low Net: Gutt, Sawyer: -6
Upon hearing this, Danny Morris nominated Pease to be the first
(ATAG Record) candidate to be considered for Sportsman Of The Year Award.
Earlier, in the Grill, the newer ATAGers had mistakenly assumed
Birdie Leader: Tyber and
Pease was an ATAG Pledge and ordered him to bring popcorn to
Batelaan: 10 each
ATAG Record: Tyber: 19
the table (which he did).

Eagle Club: ● Scotty Greene announced that he made a Hole in One last
2006: John Arnold Sunday on # 12 at Settindown Creek, the second ATAGer to
2005: Majors, Meagher accomplish such a feat at the Creek within a 10 day period.
This again no doubt shows the caliber of play on the ATAG Tour.
Best Team Score: -16 Greene informed the Commissioner of his accomplishment,
Eaton, Gilmore, Thornhill, witnessed by fellow ATAGer Andy Tyber, in a rambling 300-
Nichols word e-mail message. The short version is that it was a 205 yard
(Ties ATAG Record first set in
2005 by Matin, Tyber, Healy, shot with a hybrid 4 iron. At the beginning of the day’s match,
and draw partner Kisgen) Greene, who is a member of the Club’s Hole In One Club,
presented a brand new Pro Vi-1 Titleist golf ball to those
ATAGers present who were members of the same Club to
offset the $4 hit to their club bill.

That’s it for this week’s match. Next week we take on the

friendly front nine when an out of state former ATAGer will
join us. See you then!
