Seek directions from God: The m om ent
the risen Lord Jesus m et Paul on the road to
Dam ascus he resolved to seek d irection
from God . In A cts 9: 6a Paul says ―Lord,
w hat w ilt thou have me to
do” (K.J.V.). H e realized that he failed in
his end eavor to be fruitful instrum ent in
God ’s hand w hen he sought directions
from his ow n self. H e thought he w as zeal-
ous for God , but d id not realize that he w as
hurting and grieving God . This is exactly
w hat happens in our life too. As long as w e
rely on our ow n w ill and d irection, w e can
never be a blessing to anyone. This d oes
not m ean that w e cannot think or choose
our w ay using our free w ill and God given
w isd om . We can, but w e m ust com m it our
w ill to God like Paul and seek his guid ance
to choose the right w ay. Proverb 16: 7 says,
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. With my
whole heart, I have sought you. Don't let me wander from your commandments. I have
hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you”. Psalm 119:9-11
“When a man’s w ays please the Lord, he
makes even his enemies to be at peace w ith
him”. Proverb 16: 3 says, “Commit your w ork
to the Lord, and your plans w ill be estab-
lished”. Jesus looked unto the Father each
d ay (M ark 1: 35) for d irection for his m inis-
try. And it w as the path of Cross bearing that
Jesus w as directed to take. H e w illingly chose
this path and w on a great victory on the
Cross. By yield ing to the Father’s d irections,
Jesus w as able to bring red em ption to the
w hole hum anity. Paul’s life too w as not a
path of com fort but suffering (A cts 9: 16, II Co-
rinthians 4: 7-12) ever since he chose to seek
d irections from God . But at the end he found
to have lived a m eaningful purposeful and
satisfying life and w as confid ent of receiving
the crow n of righteousness in God ’s Kingd om
II Timothy 4: 7,8. H e w as able to be a blessing
to m any lead ing m ultitud es to Christ.
Are you relying on your own self for direction
or are you relying on God. If you are led and
guided by God your life will be
blessed. Psalm 32: 8 says “I will instruct you
and teach you in the way you should go; I
will counsel you with my eye upon
you”. You will be a blessing to many if you
seek directions from God.

Like the movers and the shakers, I can feel the
pressure burn

I' m addicted to the rush, under stress, a pris-

So goes a song…. Does it ring a fam iliar
bell? H ow m any of us can relate to this
song?
We’re three m onths into the N ew Year -
Another year of challenges, crossing hur-
d les, achieving targets and living up to ex-
pectations.
H ow prepared are we to run this year’s
race. Are w e just blind ly d ashing through
each d ay?
We’re living in a d igital age w here every-
thing happens at the snap of a finger - Buy-
ing good s online, to find ing partners via
the w eb, to transacting m oney the e- w ay,
“But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce
wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is to-
day…” Deuteronomy 8:18

to the era of the ipad, the iphone, irobot
and w ho know s - soon w e’ll hear of an i-
w ife!!
Our once sim ple lives have becom e com -
plicated by technology, gad gets and giz-
m os and the vicious virtual w orld . We
seem to be m issing out on the reality of a
sim ple yet peaceful life.
There’s no d oubt lives have becom e m ore
com fortable w ith all of us going the techno
w ay. Yet, w ith all the sophistication and
technological pervasion, w e have failed to
m aster it. With the latest m obile connec-
tivity, w e still fail to connect w ith our fam -
ily and loved ones. We boast of the fastest
transport available bu t w ith aged parents
rarely visited . You get fast food on the go,
but w ith no one to feed hungry little
m ouths. Spacious houses ow ned but w ith
no one to d w ell in them .
Im agine this – A Mond ay m orning rush –
accom panied by blues, w aking up to be on
tim e, hunting for that shirt, the car keys,
files and then over to end less m eetings at
w ork, to fixing bugs, w ith assignm ents to
be subm itted , to scoring the best in exam s,
project d eals to be finalized , shipm ents to
be sent on tim e, a convincing sales talk
and so on. Whew !!
The end less flurry of activity goes on but
w e take it in our stride to be a part of the
m ad d ening race!! We’re like rats scurry-
ing around here and there w ith not a sec-
ond to w aste!! In trying to achieve som e-
thing, w e fail to realize that w e too often
get caught in the w hirlpool of change and
lose ourselves in the w eb of d eception.

Som e tough questions w e need to ask our-
selves (m e includ ed )
 Where d oes d evotion for God , our
stand for w hat w e believe feature on
our priority lists?
 Does our love for people take its right-
ful place? H ave w e conveniently re-
placed them w ith our unend ing chaotic
lifestyle, excessive love of oneself,
gad gets as com panions and pointless
parties? I som e-
tim es w ond er -
H ow beautiful
life w ould be if it
w ere unsophisti-
cated , u n cor-
rupted and un-
touched ? Why
can w e not be
content w ith the
joys of sim ple living?
Quoting Rick Warren on find ing purpose
in life, he says “You could reach all y our
personal goals, becoming a rav ing success
by t he w orld’s st andard, and st ill miss t he
purpose in life” It is good to keep up w ith
the pace and m ake a m ark in the w orld
but its not w orth the gain w hen there is an
inner void . Top notch d egrees, fat pay-
checks, spacious bu ngalow s, spraw ling
gard ens, luxury cars and the extravagan-
cies w e finally m anage to hoard up can be-
com e MEAN IN GLESS if there’s no PEACE
and PURPOSE w ithin!!
W hat does it profit if w e gained t he w hole
w orld and lose our soul? Racing blind ly
m ight land us into d eep trouble. My only
d esire is that w e slow d ow n, stead y our-
selves, keep our purpose in check and run
the race w ell.
"The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe."

here on earth is just
tem porary. Let us re-
m em ber the race God
has set for us - The one
that lead s us to eter-
nity. Quite the con-
trary, this race is not a
rat race at all. If you run right, you w ill be
rew ard ed w ell. The best part is that H e is
there to fill our void , show us purpose in
life and guid e us w hen w e stum ble in the
course of our race. In the end , w e’re cer-
tainly not rats, but God ’s crow ned sons
and d aughters, fellow heirs of Jesus
Christ!!

It w as the yearly picnic from our church.
We had d ecid ed to go to a sm all beach a
little aw ay from our tow n. The bus w as
overflow ing w ith food , fun and laughter
as w e d rove aw ay from the church. I
sm iled and looked at m y pretty w ife sit-
ting next to m e and said , ―Well,
w e’ll need an arm y of angels to
take care of this bunch of kid s‖.
She laughed as she said , ―You
better ask for the best, m aybe
the Archangel Michael. This
bunch w ould be m ore than a
hand ful for the average angel‖.
On the beach, w e w atched as
the kid s ran out, som e to the
w ater and som e to the activity
area. Som e of our kid s w ere
shooting hoops at a sm all court
on the beach. I saw a m an stand ing and
w atching the child ren playing. H e
looked very fit and bronzed w ith a
strong chiseled face and an aura of
pow er and authority. As he w alked , he
looked like he floated over the ground .
H e looked like a tough m an to tangle
w ith. I assum ed he m ust be a sold ier or
officer from the nearby arm y base. Find -
ing m yself besid e him , I fell to talking
w ith him . H e told m e he w as a protector
and protected people for a living. Well, I
thought, this w as the first tim e I’ve heard
a sold ier d escribe him self this w ay.
H e said nostalgically that he had not
played basketball though he had seen it
played all over the globe. A globetrotter,
I thought; m ust have been on som e of

thought cynically. H e said he’d never had
tim e for gam es and that he’d been on d uty
for w hat seem ed like m any m illenniu m s. I
sm iled as I asked him w hat he d id w ith his
friend ; he m ust have friend s! H e said his
friend Gabriel and he spent their tim e fly-
ing around the w orld . H e sm iled
calm ly as m y w ife giggled and
som eone sniggered behind us. H e
w as quickly build ing up air m iles
talking to us, w e thought.
I asked him if he w anted to shoot
a few hoops w ith the kid s. H e w as
obviously a novice, but he d id
look quite good and I assum ed it
m ust be because of his arm y train-
ing and his ability to focus. One of
the kid s asked him if he w anted to
go for the basket. The m an looked
a bit bem used at that until one of the guys
show ed him a lay-up. H is eyes lit up and
after seeing a few d unks, he d ecid ed to try
his luck. After his shot, there w as a
stunned silence on the court. We had
never seen som eone stay that long up in
the air. H e seem ed to float up in the air for
ever and ever. With tim e in the air like
that, he could be the next Michael Jord an, I
thought. There w as an aw kw ard silence on
the court, w e had seen
the im possible.
The stunned silence w as
broken by the sound of
panicked voices behind
m e and I turned to look
at the sea. The horizon
w as broken by a huge
w all of racing w ater. I

The pipe organ at Egmore W esley is breathtak-
ingly beautiful and stands majestically against
the background of the church walls. The organ is
100 years old. M ellow music flows from the pipe
organ every Sunday morning and evening as the
congregation sing to the hymns being played.
Currently, the pipe organ is being fixed due to
wear and tear.
A ny one willing to contribute for the restoration
of the organ may do so. Please contact the M an-
ager of the church for more details.

Mrs. Rani Joseph , a homemaker gave up her
H R job to support her husband ’s w ork at the
clinic. She touched upon her m inistry and her
d esire to reach out w ith the gospel to those in
far flung areas.
She also testified of Gods m ight hand on pa-
tients w ho visited her clinic. H er talk w as cen-
tered on d iscipleship and encouraged us to
m ove out of our church com pound s and reach
out to the com m unity w ith the good new s.

Mr. Colin Tilsley engaged young m ind s in a

like the Lord ‖ and spoke about loving people

Mr. P.C Varghese spoke on the crisis
of character w ithin the church tod ay,
and an absence of m oral fortitud e and
integrity. Too m any have d iscovered , and ac-
cepted the id ea that the m ore they com pro-
m ise, the easier their life gets, the m ore they
attem pt to fit in, and blend in w ith the w orld ,
the m ore w illing the w orld is to em brace them
as one of their ow n.
As young people, w e must not conform our-
selves to the pattern of the w orld , but be trans-
form ed by the renew ing of our m ind . While
w e still have breath, w e can m ake the decision
to be stead fast and uncom prom ising, to w alk

―N ever d id I think I w ould d eliver
this testim ony.
I had a miserable past for 3 years
after m y grad uation, because of
w hich m y fam ily and I suffered a
lot. I w as m arried to a guy w ho never took m e
as a w ife, never w anted to take me hom e. With
no support from in -law s, I struggled to save
the m arriage for 3 years and finally had to d i-
vorce him.
Though not m y mistake, I could never get over
it even after the episod e end ed . My future
looked bleak. I d idn’t see any reason to live
and so I attem pted suicid e. My friend s saved
m e and took m e to different churches at H y-
d erabad . I picked up a little courage and
started looking out for jobs. I took up a job, but
left it as I w as not comfortable w ith it.
Later, on m y friend’s suggestion, I cam e to
Chennai and tried looking for jobs for alm ost a
year. At that tim e, m y brother lost his job and
m y father took his VRS. I w as d esperate to get
a job. There w ent m y birthd ay w ithout a job
and I prayed earnestly that the next birthd ay
should not go w ithout a job.
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in
due time; casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:5-7
During this tim e, I visited Egm ore Wesley
Church, w here I m et a few of the Youth fel-
low ship m embers w ho w ere very supportive,
and encouraged m e, nurturing m y spiritual
relationship w ith God . As I heard testim onies
of m iracles of God , I becam e hopeful again. I
had to go back hom e as m y parents w anted
m e back hom e, but w ith renew ed faith, I con-
vinced m y parents and w ent to H yd erabad to
look out for a job.
After a few m ore struggles, I received the offer
letter and that too exactly on m y birthd ay and
that w as a job m uch better than w hat I w as
looking for. My brother also got a job he w as
m ore interested in. I realized there is a better
life in store for m e that w as beyond m y im agi-
nation. Recently, I got m arried into a caring
and God -fearing fam ily. I have a w ond erful
m arried life. Praise be to God !‖
