Going Environment Friendly
The signs of the effects of Climatic Change due to increasing levels of Global Warming are
fast surrounding us – the melting glaciers, rising sea level, increasing disease outbreaks,
vanishing eco-systems, water crisis, heat, cold waves and so on. These Climatic changes that are
being considered as most serious threats to the planet, people’s well-being and the strength of
the economies have become a serious issue that needs to be tackled urgently. It has become
increasingly clear that the world’s poorest countries will be most affected by Climate Change.
There are even examples of such climate changes having affected some small island nations.
A recent release - ‘World Development Report 2010: Development and Climate Change’, by
the World Bank President - Robert B Zoellick points that an increase of 2°C in the global
temperatures would lead to a 4 - 5 % drop in its GDP.
The post industrialization Greenhouse Gas emissions are primarily responsible for the Climate
Change. Although the greenhouse effect is a naturally occurring phenomenon, the excess
GHG emissions which have originated from anthropological sources are responsible for
Climate Change and Global Warming.
Response to Climate Change, demands local actions backed with global inputs. Mitigation and
adaptation measures must be pursued collectively to tackle the Climate Change. It is believed
that a shift towards a sustainable development pathway along with policy framework,
government intervention and attitudinal change amongst the businesses and common people
will lead to a carbon free environment.
All countries must work together in finding the optimum solution to save our planet from
Climate Change. Dealing with the global warming is the biggest challenge faced by the
countries today and they have to keep their differences aside and work together in order to
bring in the necessary revolution.

Indian Economy is climate sensitive as many industries are dependent on resources which have
become vulnerable due to changing climate.
Businesses have a vital role in implementing technologies that reduce carbon dioxide (CO2)
emissions, making increasingly better use of resources in manufacturing processes and creating
better-performing products with ever-lower energy demands is becoming part of normal
business practices as the cost of CO2 emissions rise.
India is gradually passing through a transition to sustainable green future. Need of the hour is
to speedily work on the National Action Plan on Climate Change that focuses on select
missions as key components of the strategy for sustainable development.
A report released by World Bank earlier this year, states that - “…if industries and governments
make the move on climate change now, the impact could still be manageable - failing which, the
effects of climate change could turn out much worse…”

There are risks as well as opportunities related to climate change. It actually pays to be climate
friendly. HSBC Global Research released a study which states that the global revenues from
climate-related businesses such as energy efficiency rose by 75% in 2008 to reach $530 billion
and is expected to exceed $2 trillion by 2020. According to the report - the climate sector has
surpassed the size of the global aerospace or defense industry with the United States, Japan,
France, Germany and Spain accounting for 76% of global climate revenues.
The problem specially ails industrialized and developing nations like ours due to our
dependence on energy intensive manufacturing processes and strains from the demand and
consumption side. India is the world’s fourth largest GHG emitter (after China and the USA).
These emissions are leading to climate change, which in turn is affecting farm output, leading to
drought situations, floods, and irregular crop-cycles and raising the sea level.
Climate change cannot be controlled without a concentrated effort on the part of large
developing countries like China and India. Increased funding would be needed especially from
the private sector to switch over to greener technologies. As the world is increasingly becoming
aware of these issues, there is inquisitiveness towards green technologies, energy efficient
processes, investments and the demand for greener products and services.
Hence, keeping pace with the need of the hour, we present a series of informative and
enlightening events and seminars, all as pro bono initiatives under the “Knowledge.
Information. Awareness. series” (KIA series).

We the Helping Hand Foundation along with the Indian Merchants’ Chamber-ERTF, as our
knowledge partner, present a three day high powered conference titled - “Green Industrial
th th th
Evolution India -2010” on the 13 , 14 and 15 of January 2010. This conference proposes to
cover the subject of Green Revolution by addressing issues like global warming & energy
efficiency; understanding the opportunities and pitfalls associated with the business of carbon
credits; and a special coverage for pro-environment initiatives aimed at the composite textile
industry and encouraging renewable and sustainable resources.
This conference promises to bring to the table international speakers, eminent scholars and
industry stalwarts who will shed light on the latest happenings and trends in the field of Green
profits. The delegates will be a blend of industrialists, entrepreneurs, C.E.Os, Government
secretariats/ bureaucrats and decision makers.
The Conference will highlight the recent developments on the above subject followed by case
studies from organizations that are benefitting from this scheme. Each day topics will showcase
an interactive technique in which panelists will answer specific questions and then dialogue with
the audience on matters of concern.

About Us:
Helping Hand Foundation
Established as an professionally managed non-profit organization in 2003, we have been
working actively towards creating health care awareness brought about by sedentary life-style
disorders. We deliver our message by conducting workshops, product exhibitions, patient
education and interactive lecture sessions with medical experts, fitness experts, diet experts and
many more. One of the highlight about our events are the health check up camps that aim
towards early detection of the disease, counseling for care-takers thus leading to educating and
creating public awareness on lifestyle disorders and the need for early, timely modification.
Continuing with this mantra, we now turn our attention towards a broader and pressing aspect
concerning environmental health, ecology and our industries. We propose to address issues
such as Global Warming and Green House Gas emissions, Deforestation and Degeneration of
Resources, Industrial Wastes and Carbon Emissions among others.
Our Motto:
Vision:
Helping Hand Foundation to be seen as a key player in promoting the environment as a driver
and opportunity for economic growth and development.
Mission:
The mission at "Green Industrial Evolution - India 2010” is to help industries establish
environmentally sustainable manufacturing practices through professional training
and education
