Assembly / Disassembly document for NB-ASTRA

The following document is applicable for GA881 / GA882 / GA883 / GA884

NOTE: Before you start to install/replace these modules, make sure the notebook computer is not
turned on or connected to AC power and battery should remove from the notebook.

Removing Memory/ Mini PCI/ CPU Cover

1. Carefully place the notebook computer upside down.

2. Remove the six screws to detach the cover.

Expanding Memory

1. Follow the steps described above.

2. To install the SO-DIMM, match the SO-DIMM's notched part with the socket's projected part and
firmly insert the SO-DIMM into the socket at a 20-degree angle. Then push down until the retaining
clips lock the SO-DIMM into position.

3. Replace the cover and secure with the six screws.

Installing the Mini PCI Card

1. To install the Mini PCI card, match the notched part of the Mini PCI card with the socket’s projected
part, and firmly insert the Mini PCI card into the socket at a 20-degree angle. Then push down until
the retaining clips lock the Mini PCI card into position.

2. Connect the antenna cable to the “Main” antenna connector on the Mini PCI card.
3. Replace the cover and secure with the six screws.

NOTE: Your Mini PCI card may differ from the one shown above.

Installing the CPU

1. Follow the steps described earlier to access the heat sink.

2. Before removing the heat sink, make sure that the antenna cable taped on top of the heat sink has been
placed aside. Otherwise, the cable might be damaged.

3. Remove the four screws securing the heat sink and remove the heat sink by placing it aside. There
is no need to disconnect the fan’s power cord from the system board.

NOTE: When detaching the four screws securing the heat sink, make sure that you remove them in a
Diagonal direction: first detach the screw 1 and screw 2, then the screw 3 and screw 4. This is to
prevent your heat sink from damage.

4. Lift up the lever on the CPU socket to the vertical position.

5. Align the arrowhead corner of the CPU with the beveled corner of the socket, as shown, and insert
The CPU pins into the holes.

NOTE: Make sure that the CPU’s position properly fits into the socket. NEVER use force to insert
the CPU into the socket. Otherwise, the pins on the CPU may be bent and damaged.

CAUTION: The maximum force for inserting/extracting the CPU should not exceed 100 lbs (45.5 kg).
otherwise, the circuit inside the CPU board may be damaged.

6. Place the lever back to the horizontal position, as shown above, and press firmly until you hear a
clicking sound.

7. Paste the Thermal stickers on back side of Heat Sink (the side which is going to sit on the
processor)

Gel Sticker

Outer sticker

(A) First paste the small Gel sticker at the centre of the heat sink.
(B) Paste the outer sticker over the Gel sticker on the heat sink.

Caution: Don’t forget to paste the thermal sticker in the heat sink, if you forget to paste the thermal
sticker it will lead into lot of thermal related problem in the product. (Notebook). For
thermal stickers, please refer the picture provided at the end of this document.

8. Fit the heat sink onto the top of the CPU and secure with four screws, making sure the fan’s power
cord is connected to the system board.

CAUTION: The maximum force for securing the heat sink screws should not exceed 2.5~3 kg.

9. Place the antenna cable that has been put aside back to the groove located on top of the heat
sink and use tapes to secure its location.

NOTE: Do not put the antenna wire beneath the heat sink, otherwise the cable might be damaged.

10. Replace the cover and secure with six screws.

Replacing the COMBO Drive

1. Carefully place the notebook computer upside down.

2. Remove the one screw locking the COMBO drive.

3. Insert a small rod, such as a straightened paperclip into the drive’s manual eject hole (1) and
push firmly to release the tray. Pull the tray out until fully extended and continue pulling until the
whole COMBO drive is out of the compartment (2).

4. Remove the two screws, then separate the bracket from the COMBO drive.

5. To install a new COMBO drive, attach the bracket and tighten the two screws.

6. Slide the COMBO drive into the compartment until you hear a clicking sound and secure with one
screw. The connector on the system board will automatically plug into the rear side of the drive.
