constituent of ITS-The Education Group and Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE)
, Hyderabad have organized a 2- day international conference on the theme &ldquo
;Globalizing Management Education: Issues and Challenges for Industry &amp; Acad
emia&rdquo; on February 5-6, 2011 at India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi
. The conference was aimed to provide opportunities for academicians, researcher
s, corporate executives, students and experts from different countries to share,
learn and contribute to the discussion on&nbsp;</p>
<ol>
<li>Understanding Global Management Education</li>
<li>Management Education: Issues and Challenges</li>
<li>Legal and Regulatory Issues in Management Education Sector</li>
<li>Role of Private and Government Institutions in Management Education</li>
<li>Role of Industry in Management Education<br />
&nbsp;</li>
</ol>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Mr. Aswin K. Shrestha</strong> Honorary
Consul of Nepal in Slovenia was the Chief Guest of the inaugural session. Guest
of Honour was<strong> Mr. Sushil Kumar Roongta</strong>, Former Chairman of Stee
l Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) and he focused upon the role of industry in sha
ping the management education of tomorrow. <br />
The Welcome Address was given by the <strong>Prof. P. Nayak</strong>, Director,
ITS-Institute of management. He welcomed the Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, the Ke
y Note speaker, and other dignitaries present on the auspicious occasion.&nbsp;&
nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <br />
Inaugural session was presided by <strong>Prof (Dr.) D.S. Chauhan</strong>, Vice
Chancellor, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun. Dr. Chuahan said that f
or any action one wishes to perform, one should have detailed knowledge. <strong
>Prof. Ishwar Dayal</strong>, Former Founder Director of IIM, Lucknow, founder D
irector of IIM Lucknow, Former Senior Professor of IIM, Ahmedabad and IIM,Calcut
ta was the key note speaker. He emphasized on role for corporates in the develop
ment of management education world over. He also mentioned that there is a need
for integrating practical training and simulation in management education. <br /

Mr Arpit Chadha (Vice Chairman ITS- The Education Group) and <strong>Mr. S. Sood
(Chief Administrator) </strong>also graced the occasion. A book containing the
papers presented in the conference was inaugurated by Prof. Ishwar Dayal and the
souvenir of the conference was inaugurated by <strong>Mr. Sushil Kumar Roongta<
/strong>. Vote of Thanks for the inaugural session was given by <strong>Prof. R.
K. Mishra</strong>, Director, Institute Of Public Enterprises &amp; Conference C
o-Chairman. <br />

The 1st Technical Session was on the subtheme &ldquo;Understanding Global Manage
ment Education&rdquo;. The session was chaired by Prof. J. Philip, President &am
p; Director Emeritus, XIME, Bangalore, Former Director, IIM, Bangalore. He talke
d about 4 new developments internationally in Management Education:</p>
<ul>
<li>Internationalization of curriculum</li>
<li>Entrepreneurship</li>
<li>Ethics and CSR</li>
<li>International Partnership&nbsp;</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The other speaker of the session was Dr &Scaron;
tefan Bogdan &Scaron;alej, Director General International Center for Promotion o
f Enterprises (ICPE), Slovenia, EU. Dr. Salej said that the world over the Manag
ement Education is USD 4.6 billion industry. He spoke on the need for long term
and sustainable approach to International Management Education.<br />
Further, the following issues were discussed in the first technical session:</p>
<ul>
<li>Trends of development in management education in emerging economies</li>
<li>Impact of globalization on management education</li>
<li>Global practices of management education</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The session ended with 8 paper presentations on
the globalaisation and sustainability issues of management education.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The 2nd Technical Session on the subtheme <stron
g>&ldquo;Management Education: Issues and Challenges&rdquo;</strong> was chaired
by Prof <strong>(Dr.) D.K. Bandyopadhyay</strong>, Vice Chancellor, GGSIP Unive
rsity, New Delhi. <strong>Dr. Ishrat Husain</strong>, Director, Institute of Bus
iness Administration, Karachi, Pakistan was then invited to share his thoughts o
n various issues and challenges faced by the management education in the develop
ing countries. <strong>Dr. Hussain</strong> talked about the drivers of globaliz
ation that become the issues to be addressed by Management Education.Dr. Rakesh
Mohan Joshi, Professor and Chairperson, MDP, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade,
New Delhi also deliberated on the following issues were discussed in the second
session:</p>
<ul>
<li>Competitive advantage in dynamic management education</li>
<li>Stakeholders expectations from present management education system</li>
<li>Future prospects of management education in India</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">There were 8 paper presentations on the issues r
elated to quality and excellence of management education, challenges faced by ma
nagement education system in different countries.&nbsp; <br />
The last session of the day was a panel discussion on the topic <strong>&ldquo;R
equirement &amp; Relevance of Globalization of Management Education in India&rdq
uo;</strong>. This session was chaired by <strong>Dr. Arun Kumar Rath</strong>,
Professor&nbsp; &amp; Dean (Public Policy), MDI, Gurgaon &amp; Retd. IAS. Dr. Ra
th was Former Secretary to Govt. of India, Ministry of HRD. The other panel memb
ers were <strong>Prof. (Dr.) N. Panchanatham</strong> - Chair, Professor and Hea
d, Department of Business Administration, Annamalai University and Mr. Suresh Du
tt Tripathi, President HR, SRF Limited. The issue of establishment of foreign ca
mpuses in India and the opportunities for Indian B- School abroad was discussed
at length.<br />

The chief guest of day two of the international conference was <strong>Dr. Bhure
Lal</strong>, Retd. IAS. He is the Chairman, Environment Pollution (Prevention)
Control Authority (EPCA). He is also a Former Member of the UPSC, Government of
India. Guests of Honor of the day were Dr &Scaron;tefan Bogdan &Scaron;alej, Di
rector General, International Center for Promotion of Enterprises(ICPE), Sloveni
a, EU and Dr. Andrej Kumar, Professor, Ljubljana University, Slovenia-EU. Dr. P.
Nayak - Director ITS Institute of Management, <strong>Dr. R.K. Mishra</strong>
&ndash; Director Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE), Mr. Surendra Sood - the C
hief Administrator of ITS &ndash; The Education Group and Mr. Bhushan Arora secr
etary, ITS &ndash; Education Group along with other luminaries graced the occasi
on.<br />

The day two of the International Conference started with the 3rd Technical Sessi
on on the subtheme <strong>&ldquo;Legal and Regulatory Issues in Management Educ
ation Sector&rdquo;</strong>. The session was chaired by <strong>Mr. Aswin K. Sh
restha</strong>, Honorary Consul of Nepal in Slovenia. <strong>Dr. Andrej Kumar<
/strong>, Full Professor, Ljubljana University, Slovenia-EU also shared his thou
ghts on the sub-themes.</p>
<ul>

<li>Expectations from proposed education bills in India</li>
<li>Foreign investments in management education sector</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The 3rd session ended with presentation of 5 pap
ers various topics related to the session topic like FDI in Education, Managemen
t education practices, Organisational Justice&rsquo;s impact on education. <br /

The 4th Technical on the sub theme <strong>&ldquo;Role of Private and Government
Institutions in Management Education&rdquo; </strong>was presided over by <stro
ng>Dr. Muneesh Kumar</strong>, Professor, Delhi University, Former Dean, Faculty
of Commerce &amp; Business, Delhi University.<strong> Dr. Sanjay Sehgal</strong
>, Professor, Delhi University, &amp; Former Dean, Faculty of Commerce &amp; Bus
iness, Delhi University, India presented his views on the role of institutions i
n management education as the speaker of the session. Thereafter, <strong>Prof R
aj Singh</strong>, Vice Chancellor, Amity University, Rajasthan was invited to p
resent his views on the theme of 4th technical session which included following
points.</p>
<ul>
<li>Global strategies for management education</li>
<li>Expectations from proposed education bills in India</li>
<li>Foreign investments in management education sector</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Thereafter 10 papers were presented on the issue
s of Educator&rsquo;s Role in Management Education, Effects of Rapidly Increasin
g Management Institutes on Quality of Education, Role of B-Schools in Grooming M
anagement Graduates and practices of Private and Government Institutions. <br />
<br />
Technical Session 5 on subtheme <strong>&ldquo;Role of Industry in Management Ed
ucation&rdquo;</strong> was chaired by an eminent industrialist Mr. Mukul Chaudh
ary, Managing Director of CHW Forge Ltd., India. He then invited <strong>Prof. (
Dr.) N. Panchanatham</strong>, (Chair, Professor and Head, Department of Busines
s Administration, Annamalai University). He gave inputs on all the possibilities
of the role of industry in the development of management education. The other s
peaker of the session was Mr. Abdul Aziz, Head-Business &amp; Domain Training, H
CL Technology, India, who talked about the role of corporate and contribution of
companies like HCL in the development of management education. The issues in di
scussion were:</p>
<ul>
<li>Contribution of public and private sector to management education</li>
<li>Industry opinion regarding effectiveness of management education in the
present scenario</li>
<li>Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) for quality management education</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: justify;">This session culminated with 6 paper presentatio
ns focusing on leveraging the industry for the betterment of management educatio
n.&nbsp; <br />
<br />
Valedictory speech was given by the Chief Guest <strong>Dr. Bhure Lal</strong>,
Retd. IAS.He praised the speakers and paper presenters saying that the initiativ
e like the existing conference is imperative of sustainable evolution of managem
ent education.&nbsp; Guests of Honor <strong>Dr. Andrej Kumar</strong>, Professo
r, Ljubljana University, Slovenia-EU and <strong>Dr &Scaron;tefan Bogdan &Scaron
;alej</strong>, Director General, International Center for Promotion of Enterpri
ses (ICPE), Slovenia, and EU were full of enthusiasm about the future possibilit
ies of management education.&nbsp; <br />
Welcome Address was given by <strong>Mr. S. Sood</strong>, <strong>Prof. R.K.Mis
hra</strong> spoke about the outcome of the conference and at the end Dr. P. Nay
ak proposed the formal vote of thanks.</p>
