AMENORRHEA - Homeopathy Treatment &

Homeopathic Remedies
#Pulsatilla [Puls]
Comes first to mind as the homoeopathic remedy for menstrual suppression. It is
indicated where the menses flow by fits and starts, or when the suppression is due to
wetting of the feet; also, in delayed first menses in chlorotic girls. It must be carefully
distinguished from Dulcamara, which has menses suppressed from getting the feet wet,
but whose temperament is not that of Pulsatilla. Bayes remarks that in amenorrhoea with
anaemia "great judgment is required in the selection of the dilution, which ought to vary
from the 30th to the 1st, according to the sensitiveness of the patient, " Jahr ranks Sulphur
with Pulsatilla for insufficient pale menstruation. The Pulsatilla patient is disinclined to
exertion, with poor appetite and longing for acids,is apt to faint easily and suffers from a
tremulous anxiety. Senecio is useful also in amenorrhoea with chlorosis.

#Calcarea carbonic [Calc]

This remedy is also, like Pulsatilla, indicated in amenorrhoea when the first menses are
delayed, but with Calcarea there is apt to result congestion to the head or chest, giving
rise to lung troubles. It is typically indicated in fleshy, scrofulous girls with fair
complexion, perspiring easily about the head and subject to acidity of the stomach.
Menstrual suppression in those decidedly scrofulous, or with lung affection, especially
indicates Calcarea. Belladonna has menstrual suppression with congestion to the head,
but its chief use is in amenorrhoea appearing suddenly due to cold, with bearing down
and throbbing pains in the hypogastrium and painful urination. Gelsemium. Here the
drowsy apathetic state is prominent and neuralgic pains of the head and face accompany.
Glonoine. Intense throbbing of head and albuminous urine occurring when the menses do
not appear. It will act promptly if at all. If the menses are suppressed from fright,
Aconite, Actea spicata and Lycopodium must be thought of. Opium and Veratrum also
have this symptoms. Further symptoms indicating Calcarea in amenorrhoea are
palpitation of the heart, dyspnoea worse ascending, cold damp feet, etc. Lilium tigrinum.
Of use when amenorrhoea causes, by reflex action, heart symptoms.

#Ferrum metallicum [Ferr-m]

This is another useful remedy for delayed first menses where there is debility, languor,
palpitation, sickly complexion and puffiness about the ankles. It corresponds to weakly,
chlorotic women with flushed face, or pale and livid with blue margins about the eyes. It
is especially useful in those who have been dosed with quinine and nervines.

#Sepia [Sep]
Insufficient or tardy menstruation occurring in the feeble and debilitated, those of dark
complexion, delicate skin and who are sensitive to all impressions. In delay of first
menses where a leucorrhoea occurs in their stead with determination of blood to the chest
and pale face, the remedy is well indicated. Bryonia has nosebleed instead of menses
frequently accompanied with bursting headache, and Phosphorus has haemoptysis and
haematemesis instead of menses.Lachesis should not be forgotten here. Nosebleed and
headache relieved by menstrual flow.

Graphites. Here, when the menses are suppressed, delayed or scanty, and accompanied
with obstinate constipation, and indurated ovaries, it comes in especially well after
Pulsatilla. It holds the same relation to the menopause that Pulsatilla does to puberty and
youth. A sallow complexion, frequent paroxysms of headache, felling of abdominal
emptiness and ball like constipation, which are marked Sepia symptoms, will easily
distinguish this remedy. Cimicifuga. Cowperthwaite praises this remedy highly in
amenorrhoea, giving it when no special indication are present, in nervous women subject
to rheumatism or arthritic attacks, with aggravation of mental symptoms when the
menses should appear.

Infertility (Male Impotence) -- Homeopathic Remedies

Impotence is the inability to maintain an erection long enough to engage in normal

sexual intercourse. Many factors can contribute, including emotional issues, dietary
factors, use of alcohol or drugs, and level of physical fitness. Homeopathic remedies
sometimes help with temporary difficulties. If the problem is constant or recurrent, a
doctor should be consulted to check for physical, hormonal, or nervous system
problems. A constitutional remedy and the guidance of an experienced practitioner
may help bring balance to a person's system, both emotionally and physically.

Although homeopathic substances listed in this article are generally not known to
cause serious side effects, their effectiveness has not been demonstrated by
scientific research. Consumers should check labels carefully, since a homeopathic
product that is not diluted, or not diluted enough, can contain ingredients that cause
allergic reactions, side effects, or interactions. It is always advisable to discuss any
new treatment program with your healthcare practitioner.

Dosage
Homeopathy Dosage Directions

Select the remedy that most closely matches the symptoms. In conditions where
self-treatment is appropriate, unless otherwise directed by a physician, a lower
potency (6X, 6C, 12X, 12C, 30X, or 30C) should be used. In addition, instructions for
use are usually printed on the label.

Many homeopathic physicians suggest that remedies be used as follows: Take one
dose and wait for a response. If improvement is seen, continue to wait and let the
remedy work. If improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, another dose
may be taken. The frequency of dosage varies with the condition and the individual.
Sometimes a dose may be required several times an hour; other times a dose may
be indicated several times a day; and in some situations, one dose per day (or less)
can be sufficient.
If no response is seen within a reasonable amount of time, select a different remedy.

Helleborus

Black Hellebore / Christmas Rose

Helleborus niger
As early as 1400 BCE, the Roman natural historian Pliny wrote of using black hellebore for
mental conditions. Ancient Greek and Roman philosophers would drink an infusion of
the plant to increase their concentration before prolonged debates. The herb is
extremely toxic and is now used only in homeopathy, since herbalists believe that it is too strong
to be used safely. Helleborus was proved by Hahnemann and published in his Materia Medica
Pura (1821-34).

The people who benefit most from taking this remedy are characteristically dull and sluggish.
Helleborus is best suited to those who feel stupefied and have slow mental processes. They
commonly experience anguish, irritability, apathy, and depression. These people frequently feel
as though their brains are in turmoil, and do not understand what is going on around them.
Although they may beg for help, they are generally inconsolable.

Physical symptoms generally worsen between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., and improve in warmth and
when lying covered up.

Helleborus is prescribed for mental states that feature sluggishness and stupefaction. Acute
inflammatory nervous conditions may be helped, as may headaches, digestive problems, and
depression. Symptoms may follow as a result of concussion, surgery to the brain, or a bout of
meningitis or encephalitis.

Uses

Nervous-system disorders - stupefaction and dullness, possibly even giving an impression

of stupidity or mental disorder. Questions are answered slowly and with great effort. The
body feels numb and the brain loses control over the muscles, so that objects drop easily
from the hands. Forgetfulness and poor concentration, with the memory becoming
totally blank, are common. In extreme cases symptoms may be associated with
Alzheimer's disease, including memory loss, anxiety, and disorientation.

Brain inflammation - swelling of the brain tissue, possibly caused by encephalitis or meningitis.
Symptoms typically include convulsions, and the head tends to feel very hot while the body feels
very cold. There is a feeling of stupor and sluggishness.

Headaches - a headache or migraine with mental dullness, possibly after injury or surgery. The
headache often begins in the back of the head or in the neck, and there may be a need to pull the
head down toward the body. Dizziness and vertigo causing vomiting may accompany the pain.

Digestive disorders - painful bowel urges with watery diarrhea and mucus. Bowel movements are
so disoriented and sluggish that constipation may also occur. There is often a lack of thirst and a
dry mouth.

Depression - blank stares, involuntary sighs, and dark moods, especially between 4 p.m. and 8
p.m. The lips and clothes may be picked at.
Homeopathic treatment for Piles
Homeopathy greatly helps in curing piles specially the 1st 2nd and 3rd degree piles and no
surgery should be thought of till homeopathy has been tried. Some of the most commonly
used medicines in treating piles are:
Hamamelis –Q –very very useful in controlling bleeding caused due to piles
Aesculus hip-piles with acute pain in the back
Collinsonia..chronic painful bleeding piles with pain as if sticks were placed in the
rectum.
Graphitis-for piles and fissures with hard stools
Ratanhia-pain as if splinters of glass were sticking in the rectum
Other commonly used medicines are ..Sulphur,Nux.Vomica,silicea etc.

Alzheimer’s disease
Ginkgo biloba is the mainly prescribed medicine for most neurological disorders. It has
antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which protects brain cells from damage.
Phosphatidylserine, Huperzine A and Vinpocetine are some other herbal remedies for
Alzheimer’s disease.

How can I treat Alzheimer’s naturally with home remedies?

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #1: According to a report published in the
October 22, 1977 edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA),
Ginkgo biloba extract can stabilize and in some cases improve the mental functioning and
social behavior of people with Alzheimer’s disease. Take 100 to 200 mg of ginkgo
biloba extract 3 times a day.

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #2: The Chinese herb Qian Ceng to
(Huperzia serata) increases memory retention. This is the same herb that is the source of
huperzine A, and it is also known as club moss (Lycopodium clavatum). Pure and
standardized extracts of this herb have been shown to increase clear-headedness,
language ability and memory retention in a significantly high percentage of subjects with
Alzheimer’s disease. It is a potent blocker of acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme that
regulates the activity of acetylcholine, which is an important chemical of the brain that
maintains healthy learning and memory functions.

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #3: Valerian root improves sleep patterns
when taken as bedtime.
Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #4: Eat a well balanced diet of natural foods
and follow the supplementation program mention above.

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #5: Folate and Vitamin B12 prevent elevated
levels of homocysteine, a chemical that increases the risk for Alzheimer's disease and
heart disease. This vitamin may be important for preventing or delaying the symptoms of
Alzheimer's disease. This vitamin is added to cereal products Foods containing folate
include avocados, bananas, oranges, asparagus, green leafy vegetables, and dried beans.
B12 is found only in animal products. (Oily fish are very high in B12 and also have other
nerve-protective properties.). I recommend 400 mcg of folic acid to reduce
homocysteine, although one study suggested 800 mcg (.8 mg) a day is necessary to
reduce homocysteine levels.

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #6: Avoid alcohol, cigarette smoke, processed
foods, and metal pollutants like aluminum, and mercury.

TIP: Did you know that in a study published in the British Medical Journal, smoking
doubles the chances of developing dementia and Alzheimer’s?

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #7: The herbs balm and sage are being
researched for possible beneficial effects and brain chemistry. Balm appears to simulate
the neurological receptors that bind acetylcholine. Sage contains compounds that are
cholinesterase inhibitors.

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #8: Vitamin E can slow the progression of
Alzheimer’s disease by as much as 25% according to a study in 1997.

Home remedies for Alzheimer’s disease #9: A study conducted by the research
department at Oakwood college in Alabama sowed that liquid aged garlic extract
(kyolic) may be useful in the improvement of Alzheimer’s disease symptoms.

Ginkgo biloba is the most prescribed medicine in Germany and is effective in correcting
conditions of cerebral insufficiency (including memory loss) and intermittent
claudication(1,39,40).

Homeopathic treatment of AD is an important option. The remedy alumina was

discovered by the founder of homeopathy, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, in 1829. Dr.
Hahnemann found it highly effective in treating "Great weakness or loss of memory" and
in cases where "Consciousness of personal identity is confused"(41,42).

Homeopathy is based on the principle that a substance which in relatively large amounts
will cause a disease will, when given in infinitesimally small (homeopathic) amounts,
cure that same disease. It is ironic that homeopaths knew over 150 years ago that
homeopathic concentrations of aluminum oxide would cure symptoms of dementia while
we are just now realizing that much larger amounts of aluminum may actually cause
these symptoms.

Pregnancy is an absorbing and interesting time for most women, and also involves a lot
of stress. Many emotional, hormonal, and physical changes take place as the baby grows
and the woman prepares for motherhood. Homeopathic remedies can help a woman’s
body deal with various stresses, and help to maintain its balance as the pregnancy
proceeds. Care and guidance from a competent, sympathetic physician or midwife are
important during pregnancy—both for general support and to watch for complications.

For dosage information, please read the information at the end of this section. See also

Arnica: This remedy is often indicated for relief of soreness that comes from physical
exertion and muscle strain. It is also useful for soreness after labor and delivery, and for
hemorrhoids that follow childbirth.

Calcarea phosphorica: This remedy can help to strengthen a woman who tends toward
easy tiredness, poor digestion, cold hands and feet, and poor absorption of nutrients.
Some women who need this remedy find only “junk food” appealing during pregnancy,
or have cravings for smoked and salty food. A history of easy tooth decay and aching
bones and joints can also suggest a need for this remedy. A person who needs Calc phos
is often irritable because of tiredness, and may long for travel or a change of
circumstances.

Caulophyllum: This remedy may be helpful to women with weak muscle tone in the
uterus. A history of irregular periods, slow and difficult labor with previous deliveries, or
weakness of the cervix may bring this remedy to mind. The woman may feel erratic pains
like sticking needles, or episodes of contracting pain. She typically feels nervous, shaky,
and trembling (sometimes irri

table, as well).

Carbo vegetabilis: This remedy can be helpful to a woman who feels weak and faint
during pregnancy, with poor circulation, a general feeling of coldness, and a craving for
fresh or moving air. She may also have frequent digestive upsets with burning pain and a
tendency to belch. A woman who is deeply tired from overwork, many pregnancies close
together, or a previous illness may regain some strength with Carbo vegetabilis.

Cimicifuga (also called Actaea racemosa): This remedy can be helpful to women who
are nervous and talkative, with a tendency to feel fearful and gloomy during pregnancy.
They may become overagitated and fear a miscarriage — sometimes having pains that
feel like labor pains too early, or pains that shoot from hip to hip and down the thighs.

Ferrum metallicum: A woman who has a sturdy build, but looks very pale and weary—
flushing red from any exertion or emotion—may respond to this remedy. Ferrum is often
helpful in correcting anemic tendencies.

Ferrum phosphoricum: This remedy can be helpful for nervous, sensitive women who
often feel weak or tired, with easy flushing of the face and a tendency toward anemia. A
woman who needs this remedy often has a slender build and may develop frequent neck
and shoulder stiffness.

Nux vomica: This remedy may be useful for indigestion, heartburn, stomach pain, and
constipation during pregnancy. A woman needs this remedy usually is impatient,
irritable, and chilly.

Pulsatilla: This remedy is often helpful at times of strong hormonal changes, especially
to women who are moody and emotional, and want a lot of affection and attention. They
often crave desserts or butter and may overeat, which can lead to indigestion and nausea,
or excessive weight-gain. Pregnant women who need this remedy feel uncomfortable in
hot weather and in stuffy rooms, improving from gentle exercise in open air.

Sepia: Women who are tired, dragged out, and irritable during pregnancy (feeling
overburdened by demands of family members, or with little enthusiasm for the
pregnancy) may benefit from this remedy. Poor circulation, nausea, constipation, a
tendency toward accidental urine loss, and a feeling of sagging or weakness in the pelvic
floor, and an energy-boost from exercise are other indications for Sepia.
Homeopathy Dosage Directions

Select the remedy that most closely matches the symptoms. In conditions where self-
treatment is appropriate, unless otherwise directed by a physician, a lower potency (6X, 6C,
12X, 12C, 30X, or 30C) should be used. In addition, instructions for use are usually printed
on the label.

Many homeopathic physicians suggest that remedies be used as follows: Take one dose
and wait for a response. If improvement is seen, continue to wait and let the remedy work. If
improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, another dose may be taken. The
frequency of dosage varies with the condition and the individual. Sometimes a dose may be
required several times an hour; other times a dose may be indicated several times a day;
and in some situations, one dose per day (or less) can be sufficient.

If no response is seen within a reasonable amount of time, select a different remedy.

Pregnancy and childbirth

Homeopathy is a system of medicine which is based on treating the individual with highly
diluted substances given in mainly tablet form, which trigger the body’s natural system of
healing. Based on your experience of your symptoms, a homeopath will match the most
appropriate medicine to you.

Homeopathy is ideal for women in their childbearing years as it is a gentle system of

medicine. During pregnancy, some women will choose to live with the discomfort of minor
complaints such as morning sickness or heartburn, rather than seek treatment because
they are concerned about the possible side effects of orthodox medicines on their unborn
child.

Homeopathic medicines are safe for your growing baby because only a minute amount of
the active ingredient is used in their preparation (1).

By stimulating your vitality in pregnancy, homeopathic treatment can benefit your baby and by staying
as healthy as possible during pregnancy, you are giving your baby the ideal conditions in which to
thrive.

Physical and emotional changes during pregnancy may cause health problems such as nausea, mild
urinary problems, diarrhoea, heartburn, anaemia, varicose veins, backache, cramps, thrush or
emotional distress. All these problems and other potentially complicated symptoms such as raised
blood pressure, may be helped by professional homeopathic treatment (2).

What complaints can be helped by homeopathy?

The suggestions in this leaflet are for minor complaints. If your symptoms are severe or chronic
(persistent), consult a registered homeopath, your midwife and/or your general practitioner (3). If you
are already undergoing a course of homeopathic treatment, contact your homeopath before
prescribing for yourself.

Morning Sickness
Symptoms of morning sickness include nausea, occasional vomiting and tiredness. Many women
experience these symptoms during the first three months of pregnancy, usually in the morning when
the stomach is empty, although it can occur at any time of the day.

The traditional cure of eating a dry biscuit before getting out of bed is worth trying. Avoid rich, fatty
foods and try eating little and often if your nausea is worse when you are hungry.

Seek professional help if your vomiting is severe, for example if you are unable to keep food down and
are losing weight or if it persists past your third month. The following remedies are the more commonly
indicated:

Ipecac: constant, nausea with empty belching and retching; vomiting is difficult and does not relieve
your nausea

Nux vomica: nausea with retching that is relieved by vomiting; sour belching, indigestion and
heartburn. You may have a sensation that there is a knot in your stomach. You feel bad-tempered

Pulsatilla: nausea (with little vomiting), worse after eating and drinking, better in the fresh air and for
company. You feel weepy, moody and like to be comforted

Sepia: intermittent nausea which is worse in the mornings and worse for the smell or thought of food;
there is an empty, sinking feeling in the stomach which is temporarily relieved by eating. You feel
apathetic, exhausted and heavy but oddly are better for vigorous exercise. You are indifferent or cross
with others.

Constipation in pregnancy
Constipation is common in pregnancy as the hormones, which prepare the muscles of the pelvis for
labour, can slow the digestive processes down. Adjusting your diet can often help mild constipation.
Increase your intake of fluids (especially water), fruit and vegetables, go easy on wheat products (as
the gluten can have a clogging effect) and avoid iron tablets unless prescribed by your GP.

Any lasting change in your usual pattern of bowel movements should be assessed professionally but
for a simple case of constipation in pregnancy, try one of the following remedies:

Bryonia: large, hard, dry stools which are difficult to expel; often with a headache which is worse for
the slightest movement. You are irritable.

Nux vomica: frequent urging to pass a stool but in spite of straining, passing only small amounts each
time; it feels as if some is left behind; piles that may itch and bleed

Sepia: straining to pass a large, hard stool; your stomach feels full and there is a sensation of a lump
in the rectum that may remain even after passing a stool. You feel generally sluggish

Sulphur: constipation with piles that itch and burn and are worse for heat. You are generally restless,
thirsty and sensitive to the heat

“Avoid rich, fatty foods and try eating little and often if your nausea is worse when you are hungry”

What about diet?

During pregnancy, it is especially important to eat well from a wide range of foods, as this will provide
you with the extra trace minerals and vitamins that you need. If you are on a restricted diet or wish to
take vitamin and mineral supplements, then it is important that you do take professional nutritional
advice Avoid smoking and alcohol

as these have been shown to damage your health and that of your unborn child. Be sure to get plenty
of rest and sleep and to exercise regularly. Yoga has been found to be particularly helpful during
pregnancy. Increase your intake of iron-rich foods to keep up with an increased demand. Foods rich in
iron include green, leafy vegetables, blackstrap molasses, dried peaches and apricots, beans and
lentils, whole grains, seeds (sunflower and pumpkin), and eggs.

Vitamin C can help the body to absorb iron so take a fresh citrus drink with a meal to increase your
iron intake. Avoid tea, especially with a meal, as it actually prevents iron from being absorbed. Iron
tablets often have side effects such as constipation so ask your homeopath about homeopathic
alternatives if you need extra iron and are not able to get it from your diet.

Many of the above foods (especially black-eye beans and blackstrap molasses) are also high in folic
acid, an important trace mineral that helps with the absorption of iron and is essential for a healthy
pregnancy.

How can homeopathy help during the birth?

There are remedies that appear to be effective in dealing with possible problems during childbirth,
such as a cervix which is slow to dilate, pain, excessive bleeding, retained placenta and other
difficulties (3). Your homeopath will advise you and your partner on the use of remedies in labour. You
might want to ask your homeopath if they can attend the birth or if they can recommend a labour kit.
The following remedies are often required, both during and after labour, so if you are new to
homeopathy or are unable to consult a homeopath, you can start out with these:
Aconite: the labour is too fast (any stage), the pains are very strong (even unbearable) and you have a
feeling of panic

Arnica: an indispensable remedy that can be given from time to time during labour to help the muscles
function properly, to relieve the over-exertion of labour and reduce the bruised feeling after delivery

Kali phos: for simple exhaustion during labour, mental, emotional and physical

Caullophyllum: for a difficult labour where the cervix is slow to dilate and the pains are strong but
ineffective. You feel cold and trembly. (This remedy is not available over the counter - consult a
registered homeopath)

Pulsatilla: when contractions are irregular and weak, the cervix is slow to dilate and you feel miserable,
clingy and tearful. You may talk about wanting to give up and go home!

Healing after the birth

After the birth, you can use homeopathic remedies to speed up healing for yourself and your baby:

Aconite: for shock following the fear of the intensity of birth, in yourself, your partner or your baby

Arnica: to relieve soreness, bruising and after pains. Also helpful for babies who are bruised (from a
long labour or a forceps delivery). If you are still sore after three days, take Bellis perennis to help with
bruising to deep muscle tissues

Kali phos: for mental exhaustion after delivery, with headache, tiredness but too excited to sleep,
especially in the first day or two after the birth

Pulsatilla: post-natal ‘blues’, especially when the milk comes in. You feel utterly miserable and burst
into tears at the slightest thing but you feel much better for being comforted

Can homeopathy help with breastfeeding problems?

Problems that can make it difficult for women to breastfeed successfully include mastitis, painful
nipples and a slow milk supply (4).

Homeopaths recognise that breast milk gives babies a good start in life, so do keep in touch with your
midwife, breastfeeding counsellor and/or your homeopath if you want to breastfeed but find it painful or
difficult or both.

One useful remedy is Phytolacca for sore, cracked nipples, which hurt when the baby nurses. It is also
useful for breast infections (mastitis) where there are painful lumps in the breast.

Treating Babies
Babies tend to respond quickly to homeopathic treatment. There are homeopathic remedies to help
relieve the pains of colic or teething, nappy rash and more serious problems. We advise you to consult
one of our members if you want homeopathic treatment for your baby and see our leaflet “Homeopathy
for Babies and Children”.
