Foreword
The great scholar Sheikh Abdul Muezz Abdul Salttar is well known in the
Arab countries. After having specialized in the Holy Quran He acquired
deep knowledge in both the Old Testament and the New Testament. He
had some rare opportunities to mingle with the different nations of the
Middle East in the early days of the Palestine Conflict. He was the envoy
of Egypt to mediate between the fighting groups and the public there.
This gave him a strong motivation to study the three nations namely
Muslims, Christians and Jews.
Going through the chapters I found that this is a research on the three
Holy Scriptures which deserves to be published in the international
language of English to convey the idea to as many people as we can. In
my last visit on September I asked for his permission to render the book
into English, then he told me that a translation in English was already
available.
Sister Dr. Nancy Eweiss prepared the translation and Sister Maryam
Elbenhawy edited it. They have worked hard to render the ideas of the
great author to English. Sheikh is a talented Arabic Scholar with high
command on vocabulary, and literature. It is not easy to translate his
writings as they keep the high standard of Arabic literature.
My role was confined to the final touch to the translation and change
some words and phrases to make the text closer to the reader. I have tried
the best to reduce brackets and additions in the translation of the meaning
of the Quranic verses, as it is the latest method adopted by modern
scholars. From among the eight known translations of the meaning of
Quran, selection was made to get the best.
4
The author used the method of revision to make the idea clear to the
readers. Some of these portions were abridged by the translator as the
meaning was grasped from the brief form of the text. In this case I have
checked to see whether any important point was missing in this briefing,
and tried to add it to the translation.

Introduction
All praise is due to Allah; and blessings and peace be upon His
messenger and servant, Muhammad, the leader of messengers, and the
mercy bestowed to the mankind; upon his family and companions and
whoever follows his guidance until the Day of Resurrection.
As soon as the September 11th attack took place on the twin towers of the
World Trade Center in New York, and the Pentagon the President of the
USA rushed to hold the Muslims responsible for the attack, calling them
terrorists; and so did Berlusconi the Italian Prime Minster, who also
hurried to assure the same thing. They, like many others, announced that
at this point of history, the West must impose its civilization on the
Muslims, a call earlier raised by Manheim Begin, the Israeli Prime
Minster who also said that the Israelis must destroy what is known as the
Islamic and Arab Civilization to establish on its remains the Hebrew
Civilization.
This matter is not a secret anymore; rather it is well known that the
Governments of the Arab and Islamic countries received official requests
to make these changes in the syllabus. Israel and America found it a good
chance to omit all the verses which talk about the Jews: that they always
break all covenants made with others and of them being treacherous, and
their hatred and cunning against the Muslims and other nations and the
ruin they caused in the earth.
_____________________________________________________________________
(1) Allah is the proper name of God, and is not used to denote any other being.
Therefore it is retained in translations to other languages. It is used by Arabs both
Muslims and Christians alike. This term will be used throughout this book without
translation to denote the One and Only True God, Lord of mankind.
6
The members of the Assembly from all over the Islamic world presented
several research papers assuring this fact, and that Islam is a religion of
peace that reconciles with the unbelievers, and does not attack anyone
who is at peace with the Muslims and would only fight those who wage
war against them.
I was horrified to see that we, the Muslims, are confined to the position of
an accused who needs to defend himself; when a Muslim firmly
believes that his mission on earth is to spread peace, as the Prophet (p)
said: "Muslim is the one with whom people feel safe from abuse by
mouth or hand; and a believer is one whom people trust on their blood
and property". (Reported by Imam at-'Tirmidhi).
Islam maintains that people are free to choose their belief and religion, as
Allah the Almighty says: "Not upon you (Muhammad) is their guidance,
but Allah guides whom He wills." (2:272).
As Islam spread through various countries and lands, it gave the people
freedom to choose their belief; Muslims never demolished a church,
synagogue or temple. They considered their duty to protect their subjects
and defend them having the same rights and duties as the Muslims, and
never usurped a land, property or abused people's honor or freedom.
The most clear evidence of the respect of Islam to those who embrace
other religions, is that it allows a Muslim to marry a Christian or a Jewish
woman, as he believes in their Books which were revealed to Moses and
Jesus; thus uniting the three religions under the same roof. Difference of
belief would not affect the stability of this married life, and even if they
see it as a combination of belief and disbelief. We would only repeat
what Allah the Almighty says: "Say: O people of the Scripture (Jews and
7
I felt really frustrated to see that our Book which calls for peace and
guides to the truth and the straight path, is being accused unjustly, and
the Torah which is full of grudge and hatred to mankind, negligence and
violation of blood, soul, property and human rights, and even includes
false stories of genocides committed by Prophets, who are meant to be
sent by God for the guidance of mankind, is regarded as a Holy Scripture.
The Torah is full of narrations of immoral acts, incest and adultery, to the
extent that the British House of Commons submitted a request to the
British Government in 1968, requesting the prohibition of teaching the
Holy Scripture to the school pupils as it corrupts their morals.( Al Hayat
Newspaper, Beirut, 1968).
We shall start with the Qur'an and then moving on to the Holy Scripture,
putting special emphasis on the Torah.
Preface
Peoples' lives reflect what is in their hearts, and their outward behavior is
a mere reflection of their inward belief, whether rightly guided or not.
Allah the Almighty speaks the truth as He says: "Verily Allah will not
change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves."
(13:11).
And says: "And by the soul and Him Who perfected it; Then He showed it
what is wrong for it and what is right for it; Indeed he succeeds who
purifies his own self And indeed he fails who instills it( with corruption)"
(91: 7-10).
This resorting to God and pleading for His help and protection is a natural
instinct and real part of belief, which is very clear as we said before, at
moments of distress and affliction. But when this moment is over, man
(unfortunately) forgets what he was calling for, and associates other
deities with God! Regarding this issue, the Qur’an says: "And when harm
touches you upon the sea, those that you call upon vanish from you except
Him (Allah). But when He brings you safely to land you turn away (from
Him). And man is ever ungrateful." (17:67), and says: "But when We have
removed his affliction from him, he passes on his way as if he had never
invoked Us for an affliction that touched him! " (10:12). We can then say
that belief is an intrinsic part of human nature, supported by reason and
weakened due to man's forgetfulness.
Reason and natural instinct are then not sufficient to force people to abide
by the truth and follow the right path. People started to dispute and
practice a lot of injustice against each other and hence needed Divine
guidance to put them back on the right path. Allah the Almighty sent the
prophets with His book, to deliver them from darkness into light and
guide them to the truth and the right path. Allah (Glorified be He) says in
the Qur'an: "Mankind was one community, then Allah sent Prophets, as
bringers of glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the
Scripture with truth to judge between people in matters wherein they
differed. And only those to whom (the Scripture) was given differed
concerning it after clear proofs had come unto them out of jealous
animosity among themselves. Then Allah by His Leave guided those who
believed to the truth of that wherein they differed And Allah guides whom
He wills to a Straight Path "(2:213).
This verse gives a clear picture of religion, adhering to it, and the
revealed Book, and the guidance of the mankind.
10
Different by Nature
Allah has sent His Prophets with glad tidings and warnings to call them
to their welfare and enjoin them to do what is good and forbid them from
evil deeds. They are sent with the glad tidings to those who respond, that
they have a good life on earth, and great rewards in the Hereafter. They
warn those who stand against the path of Allah, in which they will face
disgrace in this world and severe torment in the Hereafter. This shows the
Grace and Mercy of Allah and His forgiveness to His servants no matter
how much they transgressed among themselves, as Allah the Almighty
says: "Should We then turn away the Reminder (this Qur'an) from you,
because you are a transgressing people?" (43:5). This tone of rescue to
11
the servants is clear in the words of Allah. "Then Allah sent the prophet".
And the prophets started to call people to the right path, piety, belief and
doing good deeds in this life to get their reward in the Hereafter, while
the Scripture was sent with them to be their reference.
This conjunction 'and' coming after sending the Prophets denotes several
things, the most significant of which are:
1. The message of each Prophet precedes the revelation of the book. They
start by calling people to follow what is good for them, and warn them
against what is harmful, give them good tidings, for those who believe,
and warn the disbelievers of punishment. Following that, is the revelation
of the book, to be their reference and guidance to the truth which all
Messengers and Prophets were sent with.
2. It denotes that Allah has sent a book with each Prophet.
3. lt also denotes that this book, is the same one, as Allah the Almighty
says: "with them", i.e. the Prophets (plural), the Scripture (singular). This
signifies that 'One Book' was revealed to all Prophets, and each one of
them had a book written in his people's mother tongue, reflecting a copy
of the original Scripture, as the Prophet (p) said: "No Prophecy ever
existed, except that it followed the example of the previous ones".1 'This
is assured by the words of Allah Glorified be He: "And with them He sent
the scripture in truth".2 (2: 213)
In Truth (2)
'ln Truth' is also a proof that this 'Book' is the same, as it is revealed by
your God in truth. Truth in itself can only be one, so it is ‘only the names
of the Books that were different, for specific reasons. Each of the Torah,
the Gospel, and the Qur'an were given these titles, even though the
content is the same, due to the difference in the mother tongues of various
nations, and the way they expressed themselves, or due to the essence of
the 'truth' that they differed about, concerning the worldly matters and
those of the Hereafter and the clear path that they wasted. Therefore, the
_____________________________________________________________________
'This is part of a hadith narrated by 'Utbah bin Ghazwan, and reported by Imam Ahmed in his
Mosnad (collection of hadith). It means that the guidance that each Prophet came with, is like
a copy from the guidance of the previous ones, based on the truth. Imam al-Shawkani
reported the hadith in his interpretation of the verse: "Nothing is said to you (O Muhammad
(p) except what was said to the Messengers before you". (41: 43).
2 The origin of the word 'truth' in Arabic means, the fixed and stable matter, as in the verse:
'And Allah has created the heavens and the earth with truth," (45:22), i.e. according to a fixed
system , and a law, that guarantees their stability.
12
Book of Moses (peace be upon him) is called 'The Torah" (i.e. the code of
life), according to which Allah made things lawful and others unlawful
for them such as usury, oppression, corruption etc.
The Book of Jesus (peace be upon him) is called 'The Gospel' (i.e. the
glad tidings), as Jesus is giving glad tidings of the kingdom of Allah, and
a Messenger who will come after him, his name being 'Ahmad' (the spirit
of truth) (1). The Book of Muhammad (p) is called The Quran, as in it you
read the verses and get to know wisdom of Allah, and what has been
revealed to the previous Prophets, of the verses of guidance and truth, so
it is "...the proof of that which is written in the former Scriptures
(20:133).
Basically, the main objective of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Qur'an and
all the Books revealed by Allah, is ‘guidance and truth', and calling
humanity to revert to Allah concerning their belief, worship, morals,
dealings etc. Likewise, all the Messengers of Allah and His Books call to
the oneness of Allah, belief in Him, in His judgment and punishment or
reward, in brotherhood, justice and piety; Allah the Almighty says: "And
We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad (p)) but We
inspired him: There is no deity except Me, so worship Me ." (21:25), and
says: "Nothing is said to you (O Muhammad) except what was said to the
Messengers before you." (41:43), and says: "Verily, We have inspired you
as We inspired Noah and the Prophets after him." (4:163).
1. The Torah:
Jews have changed the Torah, the Book of God, which was sent to them
as a mercy and guidance. They turned it into a Book of sanctifying a
certain nation and owning a certain piece of land. They emptied it from
the guidance revealed by Allah, to be the base of their rules. They did not
stop there. But replaced the truth in which God sent the Book, with
fallacy, changed guidance with misguidance.
l. They turned God into the Lord of Israel and not the Lord of mankind.
2. They turned God (exalted be He) into a pagan god, ignorant, coward,
unjust, jealous and all the evil qualities, as we shall see later.
3. They turned the Prophets of God into gangs of looting and robbing,
committing adultery, killing, treachery and infidelity. They turned them
into criminals of war and genocide.
4. They emptied the Book of God from any reference to the Hereafter,
righteous deeds and Day of Judgment. There is no mention at all to
resurrection, judgment, Heaven and Hell, reward and punishment in the
Day of Judgment.
Allah the Almighty has said the truth as he said: "But those who did
wrong changed the word from that which had been told to them for
another..." (2:59). And " Do you (believers) covet the hope that they will
believe in your religion in spite of the fact that a party of them used to
hear the Word of Allah, and then they used to change it knowingly after
they understood it?" (2:75). And said: "Who then sent down the Book
which Moses brought, as a light and guidance to mankind which you
have made into separate sheets, disclosing some of it and concealing
much." (6:91).
They changed and corrupted the Torah deliberately and the Book of Allah
which was revealed to Moses as guidance and light to the people was
emptied from the guidance and truth; those who were given the Book
emptied it after they were provided with the clear signs and teachings,
seeking the leadership and exploiting the common people, to eat the
properties of people illegally, and pursue high ranks in the earth1.
When we have a closer look at the Torah, which its followers claim to be
sent by God, and some even go further to say that each of the Qur'an, the
Torah and the Gospel are, equally, Divine Books. They mean the Torah
and the Gospel that are currently available, which are too far from having
any connection to God (Glorified be He) as witnessed by truth, reality
and the texts there in.
As for the Torah which was revealed to Moses, it was lost and gone after
it was distorted by the Children of Israel. Then the scrolls were burnt
during the Babylonian dispersion, and Jews were carried captives.
There are several pieces of evidence that prove the Torah currently
available is not the original Torah:
1. The Torah available now talks about the death of Moses, and that he
was buried and no one knows his burial place (1) ( Deuteronomy, 34:5,6).
To whom then was this Torah which talks about Moses' death revealed?
2. This Torah talks about the Torah of Moses, exactly the way it talks
about his death. It says: "And it came about, when Moses finished
writing the words of this law in a book until they were complete, that
Moses commanded the Levites who carried the ark of the covenant of
15
Jehovah, saying: Take this book of the law and place it beside the ark of
the covenant of Jehovah". (Deuteronomy: 31)
Where is "this book of the law" that was completed and given by Moses
to the Levites to place beside the Ark of the Covenant? Is it the Torah of
Moses that is relating this story? Or is it a history book telling us about
Moses and his book?
In brief we are not in need of a material evidence to prove that this Torah
is definitely, not the original one revealed to Moses. It is enough to read
parts of it and see how it invents lies against Allah and His Messengers
and its lacking of any trace of truth and guidance with which
The Arabic poet said:
{No enemy can hurt the stupid; as deep the stupid hurts himself}
_______________________ ____________________________
I "Then Moses, the servant of the LORD, died there in the land of Moab, at the Lords
command. He was buried in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor, but no one
knows his burial place to this day" (Deuteronomy: 34. Deuteronomy: 3 l)
16
The Jews not only corrupted the Torah by changing the words of Allah,
and deforming the scripture which Allah revealed as guidance and mercy
but also, they did the same with the New Testament, as they turned it into
a story starting with raising the status of Jesus to being the son of God
and the king of Israel, and ended with debasing and crucifying him
among the criminals and killers. But the Book that Allah sent with truth
with the Prophets to judge between them in matters wherein they differed
is still prevailing and acting as a witness over mankind, which is the
Glorious Qur'an, "This is the Book, whereof there is no doubt, a guidance
to those who are pious and righteous." (2:2). Allah (Glorified be He) has
given us the Book for inheritance and He guarded it from distortion.
People still consider it their reference in matters of belief, worship,
guidance, judgment, the genuine history and sound morals. Allah the
Almighty says: "O people of the scripture there has come to you our
Messenger making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the
scripture and overlooking much. Indeed, there has come to you from
Allah a light and a clear Book. Wherewith Allah guides all those who
seek His Pleasure to the ways of peace, and He brings them out of
darkness by His Will unto light and guides them to a Straight Way"
(5: 15-16).

1
Take for example, the ritual purification of bodies such as a woman in childbed condition, it
had to be performed through the rabbi, and a korban (offering) had to be brought. Likewise,
atonement of sins, used to be performed through offering korban, while the high priest used to
enter into the Holy of Holiest in the temple, and sprinkle the blood of the goat (the sin
offering) on the mercy seat, and they would grill and eat the substance of hard working men
wrongfully!
17
The Gospel
As for the Gospel it is enough for us what its followers and scholars
wrote while no one ever claimed that this Gospel was revealed by God.
As Jesus is God or the son of God, there is no need for a Book to be
revealed to him. Nevertheless, they claim that these Gospels were written
by people who were inspired by the Holy Spirit.
2. John also admits the same in his Gospel: "This is the disciple who is
testifying to these things and has written them, and we know that his
testimony is true." Therefore, none of the authors of the Gospels claimed
that his Gospel is sent by God, or that it is a Divine Revelation to Jesus,
or that Jesus himself claimed that. (John: 21:24), Then we can clearly say:
only the Qur'an is truly a revelation from the Lord of mankind.
3. Now we see that Christians do not allege anyway, that Jesus received a
Divine Revelation from God. On the contrary they tend to reject this
allegation as he is the son of God or God himself, so he is in no need of a
book to be revealed to him. His words in themselves are sufficient with
their nice rhetoric, sayings and proverbs which are attributed to him and
which are acceptable, even though there are things which are attributed to
Jesus that could not be taken for granted to be really his own words! (1)
________________________________________________________
1. Take for example the story of the Canaanite woman who cried for his help to save
her daughter who was possessed by a demon, but he did not answer her and said: "l
was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel ..... It is not fair to take the
children's bread and throw it to the dogs. "(Mathew :21-26). lt is not logical that Jesus
would say something like that, even if the woman was from Canaan, as being kind to
animals is obligatory anyway.
18
In Brief
1. One Religion:
From the above discussion, we can deduce that the religion of God and
His Book are one and the same, and that:
1. Allah has sent the Prophets with glad tidings and warnings.
4. Truth can only be one, as it denotes stability. It is the law upon which
Allah based the universe. Truly Allah says: "It is not for the sun to
19
overtake the moon, nor does the night outstrip the day. They all float,
each in an orbit." (36:40), and says, "And Allah has created the heavens
and the earth with truth." (45:22).
Therefore the religion of Allah has been the same for every nation and
every generation. Truly Allah says: "He (Allah) has ordained for you the
same religion which He ordained for Noah, and that which We have
revealed to you, and that which We ordained for Abraham, Moses and
Jesus saying you should establish religion, and make no divisions in it "
(42: l 3).
lt is one religion which aims to correct the faith and belief of mankind, to
encourage good deeds, recommending one another to the truth and
patience, a religion that every Prophet called for, and every Messenger
was sent with. The religion of Allah is but one, even if the Messengers
were different, because the objective is the same, which is to guide
mankind to the truth, reflecting the meaning of the Prophet's saying: 'All
the Prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different and their
father is one, and so their religion is one." (Reported by Bhukari), even if
they were many and their laws were different. People refer to these
religions as the religion of Moses, the religion of Jesus and the religion of
Muhammad, but they are all the religion of Allah, one and the same.
We, the Muslims, believe in all the Messengers of Allah, and in His
religion with which Allah sent them, and His Scripture that He sent with
them. Allah the Almighty says: "Say (O Muslims), "We have believed in
Allah and what has been sent down to us and what has been sent down to
Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants and what was
given to Moses and Jesus, and what was given to the Prophets from their
Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have
submitted (in Islam)". (2:136).
2. One Scripture
before it." (35:31). This means that the Qur'an confirms the Books that
were revealed to Moses, Jesus and the other Prophets (before they were
corrupted, changed or lost). When the other nations corrupted their books
Allah deposed them from His guidance, and sent the final Scripture to
Muhammad (p), as He made him the last of His Messengers and
Prophets.
Allah the Almighty says: " Verily, We have inspired you (O Muhammad)
as We inspired Noah and the Prophets after him."(4:l63), and says:
"Verily! This is in the former Scriptures, the Scriptures of Abraham and
Moses. "(87: 18-19), and says: "They said: "Why does he not bring us a
sign (Proof) from his Lord? Has there not come to them the proof of that
which is (written) in the former Scriptures." (20:133).
All these verses prove that the Scripture of Allah is one and His religion
is one. They also prove that the Quran is the proof of that which is written
in the former scriptures and that it is the Book by which Allah ended all
the Divine messages, and the truth by which all the Messengers were
sent, and is the Book which is referred to in the verse: "This is the Book
whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are pious." (2:2).
It is also the proof of that which was mentioned in the former Scriptures,
regarding monotheism and worshipping Allah, glorifying and thanking
Him and believing in the Hereafter, which is referred to in the verses:
"He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself, and remembers the
Name of his Lord and prays. But you prefer the worldly life; while the
Hereafter is better and ever lasting. Verily! This is in the former
Scriptures, The Scriptures of Abraham and Moses. "(87:14-19).
21
Since we have clarified with evidence, that this is the only book which is
worthy of attributing to Allah, being His Divine revelation, we shall start
to talk about this book, and then move on to talk about the Holy Scripture
that Jews and Christians claim to be sent by God, while all which it
contains and denotes prove that it is a book of misguidance, terrorism,
distortion and fallacies that have no relation whatsoever with God. No
trace of His religion and guidance is left. It is basically a book which
leads to the corruption of morals and spoils man's life, 1 and moreover, it
is the reason behind the misery which humanity is facing.
lt is the Book that was sent to all Prophets, confirming what Allah says:
"And Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them
He sent down the Scripture. " (2:213), and: "Indeed We have sent Our
Messengers with clear proofs, and revealed with them the Scripture."
(57:25). The Book is the Glorious Qur'an as it is a continuation of the
Divine guidance and revelation as Allah Truly says: "Verily, We have
inspired you as We inspired Noah and the Prophets after him." (4:163).
Imam Al-Raghib al- Asfahani said in his commentary on the Qur’an that,
the Qur'an contains the essence of all the laws that were contained in the

22
A comparison
Let us have glance at the new distortions and changes to the Torah, and
Gospel in our era, as for the old distortions we shall explain it in the next
chapter.
The Torah went through several alterations and changes, and was finally
turned void of all the verses pertinent to faith, guidance, truth and piety. It
turned its message totally to the ancient era of Abraham, which revolves
round the right of the Jews in the land of Palestine as an everlasting
possession, and the superiority of their race to all other races.
The Torah was then limited to what is now known as the Old Testament.
The word 'testament', as the Jews claim, signifies the covenant which God
entered into with Abraham, giving him and his descendants the right in an
everlasting possession of the Promised Land namely: Palestine, and
proclaiming the Jews as God's favorite race. The Jews chose to divide this
conspiracy over the first five books of the Old Testament; the Pentateuch
or the Books of Moses, or the Torah.
23
1. Genesis: The word Genesis has the meaning of birth, origin or the
beginning of. It starts with a description of God's creation of the
world, and then talks about God's promise to Abraham that through
his offspring all the people on earth would be blessed. It also
mentions the stories of Abraham's descendants, Isaac (his son) and
Jacob (his grandson and known as Israel), and of Jacob's twelve sons,
who were the founders of the twelve tribes of Israel.
2. Exodus: The name Exodus means 'departure' and it refers to the
departure of the people of Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land
(Palestine).
3. Leviticus: It contains regulations for worship and religious ceremonies
in ancient Israel, and the priests who were responsible for carrying
out these instructions, and acting as mediators between God and the
children of Israel.
4. Numbers: Gives an account of the Israelites who departed with Moses
from Egypt to Sinai.
5. Deuteronomy: Again Moses is reminding the Israelites of the meaning
of God's covenant with them, of the Promised Land (which really
means usurping other people's land).
As a matter of fact, the Torah, the Book which Allah the Almighty
sent to His Prophet Moses to be guidance to the Children of Israel,
was distorted in the past. The following are just two recent examples
of the non stop distortion of the Torah and the Gospel.
In the Psalms of David (which are basically a book of hymns and prayers
performed by the Prophet David, and according to the Qur'an the
mountains and birds used to Glorify Allah with him). In the first edition
of the Torah in psalm 44 it says: "We have heard with our ears, God; our
fathers have told us, what work you did in their days, in the days of old.
You drove out the nations with your hand but you planted them. You
afflicted the peoples, but you spread them abroad... .... You are my King
God. Command victories for Jacob. Through you, will we push down our
adversaries. Through your name, will we tread them under who rise up
against us .... But now you rejected us, and brought us to dishonor, and
don’t go out with our armies... ..... You sell your people for nothing and
have gained nothing from their sale... . .... If we have forgotten the
name of our God, or spread forth our hands to a strange god, won’t God
search this out? (Psalms 44:21)
24
When their rabbis felt how audacious it was for a human being to talk to
God in such a manner, they tried to smooth the tone in the 1960 edition
which reads: 'If we have forgotten the name of a god or spread.'(Arabic
Version) They also changed the text which reads: "Wake up, Lord! Why
are you asleep?" into "Wake up, Lord!" in the 1960 edition, after deleting
"Why are you asleep?" (Arabic version)
In the Gospel according to Luke, it says that when Christ was born:
"Suddenly a great army of heavens angles appeared with the angel
singing praises to God "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace,
goodwill toward men" (King James Version). In the recent, English
version of the Bible the same verse reads: "Glory to God in the highest
heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!" (Luke 2:
l4). This means that peace will only be for those whom God is pleased
with, not to man or humanity in general. Those meant in the new version
are the Jews and the Christians as those are the children of God and His
loved ones, as for the others, there would be no peace for them!
The Qur'an
Definition
Objective
Allah the Almighty said: "Verily It is We Who sent down the Message
(i.e. the Qur'an) and surely, We will guard it." (15:9). Allah, (Glorified be
He) guaranteed to protect His Book from distortion and alteration,
because it is the last Book to be sent by Him. This Book will last till the
Day of Resurrection, and hence it includes all that people need regarding
their belief, worship, morals, justice etc. In brief it contains all that fulfills
happiness and peace for humanity in this world and in the Hereafter. That
is why it was guaranteed all the means for its protection in a way that was
not available for any other Book. Truly Allah says: and verily, it is an
honorable respected Book. Falsehood cannot come to it from before it or
behind it (it is) sent down by the All-Wise, Worthy of all praise (Allah
the Almighty). "(41:41-42)
lt has been proven undoubtedly that not one single letter from the Qur'an
that was revealed to Muhammad (p) was changed. The proof is in the
following:
3. The companions of the Prophet (p) were also very much concerned
about the preservation of the Qur'an. They used to memorize as much of
the Qur'an as possible, and many memorized all of the Qur'an. The rare
literates also used to write it down and some of them had their own
personal copies of the Qur'an. All of this was during the lifetime of the
Prophet (p).
Ibn Hajar narrated in his 'Al Isaba' that: Oqbah bin Amir was one of them
who compiled the Quran in one Book. Abu Saeed bin Younus had
reported that he has seen the Mushaf of Oqbah in Egypt. In its end was
written: Oqbah bin Amir wrote it with his hand.
Therefore, when the Prophet (p) passed away, the entire Qur'an had been
memorized by many of the Companions, and also existed in written form,
but had not been compiled between two covers. At the battle Yamamah, a
great number of Muslims who had memorized the Qur'an were killed;
they were estimated to be almost seventy martyrs. The death of such a
large number of the reciters and memorizers of the Qur'an alarmed 'Omar
bin al-Khattab and he feared that more would die in future battles, as they
were all eager for martyrdom. So he urged the Caliph Abu Bakr to
preserve and compile the Qur'an in one Book. Abu Bakr was worried at
first to do something the Prophet (p) did not do, but 'Omar kept on talking
to him until he finally agreed.
Imam Bukhari reported on the authority of Zaid bin Thabit al- Ansari:
"Abu Bakr sent for me when the soldiers of Yamamah had been killed.
'Omar was present with Abu Bakr who said, 'Omar has come to me and
said: 'The people have suffered heavy casualties on the battle of
Yamamah, and I am afraid that there will be more casualties among the
reciters of the Quran (those who know the Quran by heart) at other battle-
fields, whereby a large part of the Qur'an may be lost, unless you collect
it. And I am of the opinion that you should collect the Quran. Abu Bakr
added 'I said to 'Omar, How can I do something which Allah's Apostle
had not done? 'Omar said (to me), By Allah, it is really a good thing. So
'Omar kept on pressing, trying to persuade me to accept his proposal, till
Allah opened my heart for it and I had the same opinion as 'Omar".
29
Zaid bin Thabit added: 'Omar was sitting with Abu Bakr keeping quiet.
Then Abu Bakr said: You are a wise young man and used to scribe the
revelation for the Messenger of Allah. So, look for the fragmentary
scripts and collect it (in one manuscript). Zaid said: "By Allah, if he had
ordered me to move one of the mountains it would not have been harder
for me than what he ordered me concerning the collection of the Qur'an.
Then I said to both of them: "How could you do something which the
Prophet (p) has not done?" Abu Bakr said, by Allah, it is really a good
thing. I kept on arguing with him about it till Allah opened my heart for
that which He had opened the hearts of Abu Bakr and 'Omar."
1. He asked the Companions to bring each of them along all what he has
of the Quran in written form.
2. He did not accept any written verse, except when two trust worthy
witnesses testified that it was written in the presence of the Prophet (p).
This method of authentication and honesty was never known for any
book but the Quran. Even though Zaid and many other companions
memorized the Qur'an by heart, he only depended on written evidence:
(verses of the Quran that have been already written in the presence of the
messenger of Allah with trustworthy witnesses). Therefore, Zaid was not
writing the Quran for the first time; he was collecting and copying all that
was written during the lifetime of the Prophet (p) in his presence.
'Othman was elected for the Caliphate after the sudden demise of 'Omar.
Muslims continued to spread the message of Islam everywhere to liberate
people from the slavery of man to the service of the Allah, and from the
injustice of religions to the justice of Islam. Muslims from different parts
of the world, with different tongues and cultures started to join the
Muslim forces in their battle against the enemy. In the battle of Armenia
the soldiers started to dispute among themselves regarding the recitation
of the Qur'an, and every one of them was biased to his style of recitation,
as they were taught by different companions.
Huzhayfah ibn al-Yaman, one of the companions who was among them at
the time, witnessed what was happening and when he returned to
Madinah, directly went to 'Othman and said: O Commander of the
believers! Save this nation before they fall into a disaster.
30
'Othman what he witnessed in the battle, the dispute between the soldiers
in the recitation of Quran.
The Caliph was alarmed by the news, and decided that the Muslim nation
should have one standard version of the Qur'an. 'Othman could have
easily copied several copies of the Qur'an compiled by Abu Bakr which
was kept till that time with Hafsah ('Omar's daughter, and the wife of the
Prophet ( p)), but he decided to recompile it. 'Othman chose a committee
of four companions, namely, Zaid ibn Thabit, 'Abdullah ibn az-Zubair,
Sa'eed ibn al-'As, and 'Abdur-Rahman ibn al-Harith in order to rewrite the
manuscript of the Quran.
Ibn 'Asakir reported that 'Othman addressed the people asking them to
bring all the written scripts of the Qur'an which they had. The Muslims
were fast in their response and Zaid and the group working with him,
compiled the Qur'an for the second time, following the same steps as Zaid
did in the first compilation. On comparing the copy which Hafsa had,
with the new one, they were perfectly identical. Contrary to what some
scholars thought this compilation was not just copying the first one, but
rather a recompilation of the Qur'an, for further authentication. After the
committee finished its task, 'Othman ordered to make copies of this
standard transcript. to be sent to various parts of the empire Sham (now
Syria and Lebanon), Egypt, Iraq, Makah, Yemen, Bahrain etc. The
Commander of the believers 'Othman ibn 'Affan ordered the governors of
each province to make several copies of the standard manuscript and to
burn all the other copies they have to put an end to any difference. All the
copies of the Qur'an that are now available in the world are exactly
identical to this standard 'Othmanic version. Thus the promise of Allah to
preserve the Quran intact was fulfilled.
This spirit of confirming the authenticity of Mushaf spread all over the
Muslim world, and made the copies which were not destroyed for any
reason, as authentic as the Original (Othmanic) Manuscript. Imam
Ahmed narrated that Abu Nadhra went with a group of people from his
tribe to Othman bin Abi Al Aa's to check their Mushaf with His Mushaf.
31
Ibn Jareer reports that Omar bin Khattab heard some one reciting the
verse 100 from the chapter 9. Omar asked him who taught him that verse.
He said: the Quranic scholar Obayy bin Kab did. Omar went with him
together to Obayy and reconfirmed a letter in the verse. To convince
Omar that the conjunction letter 'waw' (in the place of 'and' in English) is
mentioned in the Quran, Obayy had to prove with some other verses in
similar meaning. The famous scholar of Quran Zaid bin Thabith was also
present in the debate. (Reported by Bukhari)
· The Qur'an confirms all the previous Scriptures, and contains all
what has been revealed to previous Prophets.
· It is criterion over these Scriptures, to complete what was missing
in them, and correct any deviation or distortion that they suffered.
Allah the Almighty says: "And what We have revealed to you of the Book,
it is the (very) truth, Confirming that which was revealed before it."
(35:31), and said: "And We have sent down to you the Book (this Qur’an)
in truth, confirming the Scripture that came before it and as a criterion
over it." (5:48).
This Glorious Quran which Allah has revealed with His Knowledge, and
promised to preserve it Himself, and made it a source of guidance and
truth to His servants, has also been revealed to confirm the previous
Scriptures that came before it such as the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms,
the Scriptures of Abraham and Moses. Whatever is present in these
scriptures, which complies with the truth, the Qur'an would confirm it,
but whatever contradicts the Qur'an, then the Qur'an will be the reference
in clarifying the fact is in this dispute.
This means that the Quran is the judge and the reference in confirming a
certain narration or altering a certain judgment. Allah Almighty says: And
the Word of your Lord has been fulfilled in truth and justice. None can
change His Words. And He is the All- Hearer, the All-Knower". (6:115).
32
('In truth' in this verse refers to narrations and stories of previous nations,
and 'in justice' means the judgments). The verse continues: "And if you
obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you far away from Allah's
Path. They follow nothing but conjectures, and they do nothing but
falsify."(6:116). Allah, (Glorified be He) also said: "So put your trust in
Allah; surely, you are on manifest truth." (27:79).
It is very important for any believer in God, His Messengers and His
Scriptures, to consider the Qur'an as his criterion in judging the truth of
narrations and the justice of judgments, of that which is attributed to God,
His Messengers and His Scriptures. Allah, (Glorified be He) says: 'And
those who have been given knowledge see that what is revealed to you
from your Lord is the truth, and guides to the Path of the Exalted in
Might, Owner of all praise. "(34:6).
This means that all that contradicts what is in the Qur'an, and what people
of knowledge reject is not of the religions of Allah, even if it was written
in thousand books, thousands of times (1). Allah the Almighty says: " [Say
(O Muhammad) "Shall I seek a judge other than Allah while it is He who
has sent down unto you the Book (The Qur’an), explained in detail "
(6:114), and says: "That is because Allah has sent down the Book (the
Qur'an) in truth. And verily, those who disputed as regards the Book are
far away in opposition. "(2:176).
Therefore, all that was reported in the Torah, which contradicts what is in
the Qur'an, is totally rejected and cannot be attributed to Allah. The
Qur'an alone has been proven to be the only remaining authoritative and
authentic divine revelation.
l. Eloquent Style:
It is a Book with its precise verses. Its words are specifically chosen. Its
verses have similarity as they are eloquently structured combining beauty
of expression, and the strong impact on the reader.
2. Clarity of meaning
Clarity of meaning is the natural outcome of the perfection of its verses,
beauty of its structure and selection of words. No other scripture has ever
been similar to it. It contains the words of Allah exactly as they have been
revealed no deviation, alteration, distortion or even translation from a
language to another; it was revealed in Arabic and is in its original
language till now. Truly Allah says: "Say: It (this Qur'an) has been sent
down by Him (Allah) Who knows the secret of the heavens and the earth."
(25:6); Everyone can understand it whether of the public or of the people
of knowledge.
3. Perfect Guidance:
This is the comprehensive thought provoking Book for guidance,
legislation and glorifying Allah. Allah, (Glorified be He) says: "indeed,
We have sent down for you (O mankind) a Book, (the Qur'an) in which
there is your honor" (21:10), and says: "Certainly, We have brought to
them a Book (the Qur'an) which We have explained in detail with
knowledge, - a guidance and a mercy to a people who believe." (7:52).
This idea shall be more obvious when we discuss the essence and subject
of the Quran.
34
The main objective of the Glorious Qur'an is to lead mankind out from
darkness to light, "(This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you in
order that you might lead mankind out of darkness into light by their
Lord’s Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise."
(14:1) The means to achieve this goal are guidance and truth, which Allah
had made the main core of His Book. Truly Allah says: "He is Who has
sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth (Islam), that
He may make it superior over all ways of life..." (48:28).
- Guidance means the purification of the interior of the individual and the
nation through piety and chastity.
- Truth is what reforms the exterior of the individual and the society
through justice and equity.
Guidance and Truth: Both are needed to establish the nation which
deserves to be Allah's vicegerent on earth. Guidance and truth are like the
two sides of one coin; Islam which is the religion that conforms with the
human instinct and the Qur'an which is the Book of Allah. Guidance and
truth are actually inseparable; guidance is what leads to truth, goodness
and the Straight Path of Allah. On the other hand, truth is the fixed notion
which leads to guidance, goodness and also the Straight Path of Allah.
Therefore, each guidance reflects truth and each truth is in itself
guidance.
That is why Allah described Muslims as being: "a nation who guides with
the truth, and establishes justice therewith." (7:181). Allah, the Almighty
said: "Allah! There is no God to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living,
the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. It is He Who has sent
down the Book (the Qur'an) to you with truth, confirming what came
before it. And he sent down the Torah and the Gospel. Aforetime, as a
guidance to mankind And He sent down the Criterion (this Qur'an). ".
(3:2- 4). The Quran was also described as being guidance to the pious
and was also described as being the truth: "And with truth We have sent it
down (i.e. the Qur'an), and with truth it has descended"(17:105).
35
First: Guidance:
It is reported that:
The famous Arab linguist Al-Asma'i once traveled to some known Arab
tribes. He was attracted by a boy for his good traits. He decided to test
his intelligence and asked him:
"O son! Would you be happy to have hundred thousand dirhams while
you are misguided?"
The boy answered with confidence:
"No, I seek refuge in Allah from that." Al-Asma'i added:
"Then maybe hundred thousand dinars."
The boy answered: "Not for the whole earth full of gold."
Al-Asma’i then asked the boy: "why?"
The boy answered:
"I fear that being misguided will make me commit a mistake and lose my
wealth, and then I will be left with my misguidance".
The boy realized with his sound instinct, intelligence and the light of his
heart that nothing could be equivalent to guidance. This meaning was
reflected in the Saying of the Prophet (p): "The best gift a father can give
to his son is upbringing on good manners”.
Faith is an act of the heart, and means the decisive assertion in the five
elements mentioned in the verse: "...but Righteousness is (the quality of)
the one who believes in Allah, the Last Day, the Angels, the Book, the
Prophets." (2:177). Whoever disbelieves in all or one of them, is
considered to have no faith. Allah the Almighty says: "And whosoever
disbelieves in Allah, His Angels, His Books, His Messengers, and the Last
Day, then indeed he has strayed far away." (4:136), and says: "And
whosoever disbelieves in Allah then fruitless is his work." (5:5). Out of
these five articles of faith, we shall talk about two in more detail; belief in
Allah and in the Last Day.
Belief in Allah and the Day of Resurrection are the axis and crux of faith.
As for the belief in Angels, Scripture and Apostles it is to believe in the
mediators of revelation, and none but God forgetting stupid will deny
that. So, we are skipping its details here.
A. Belief in Allah
Let us begin with the belief in Allah, His oneness and its effect in
achieving guidance.
Muslims believe that there is no God but Allah, the Sustainer of mankind
and all that exists in the universe, the Most Beneficent, the Most
Merciful. He is our Sustainer and the Sustainer of Everything. He is not
the Lord of any tribe, nation or Society.
37
Allah, (Glorified be He) is the Creator of all beings, He is the only source
of their provisions and from Him they derive the power and means to
exist. If the assistance of Allah discontinues for a second at day or night
we are all perished: "Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out
their wings and folding them in? None upholds them except the Most
Beneficent. Verily, He is the All-Seer of everything. Who is he besides the
Most Beneficent that can be an army to you to help you? The disbelievers
are in nothing but delusion. Who is he that can provide for you if He
should withhold His provision? Nay, but they continue to be in disdain
and aversion. "(67:19-21)
This is the true essence of monotheism and belief in Allah with which all
the Messengers were sent and they freed mankind from worshipping idols
and delusions. Allah the Almighty said: 'and We did not send any
Messenger before you (O Muhammad (p)) but We inspired him (saying):
there is no deity but Me, so worship Me." (21:25).
The sole reason of people going astray and being humiliated is that they
lost this belief in the One and only God, and they associated with Him the
tyrants, idols and servants like them, who are unable to bring any benefit
to themselves.
38
The Qur'an was unique in talking about this aspect of faith, testifying that
Allah is the Lord of mankind and the whole universe, and that none has
the right to be worshipped but Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most
Merciful. Through this concept of faith, Islam has provided for mankind
and the human civilization, security, peace, freedom, welfare, equality
justice, righteousness; and purified it from transgression, wars, afflictions
and corruption on earth.
Our belief as Muslims that Allah is the Lord of mankind (not the Lord of
a certain nation or the Lord of Israel), generated the most noble principles
and ideals without that life cannot be established. These principles are:
Being in Harmony with the Universe, Belief in Brotherhood of Humanity,
Earth has been Created for all Mankind.
A believer is always grateful to Allah for his favors and blessings on him,
and for that He subjected the whole universe for him. Therefore he has
this feeling of harmony with all that is around him. The Messenger of
Allah (p) used to be very happy when it rained, and would go out and
expose himself to it saying that it has recently come from Allah. When he
saw the new moon, he used to say: "O Allah let this moon rise above us
in good fortune and faith, in peace and Islam, and in success in the
achievements of that which is pleasing to, and beloved by you. Our Lord
and the Lord of the moon is Allah," (this expresses a unique way in being
in harmony with the universe).
When seeing early fruits and dates brought to him he would say:"O Allah,
blesses us in our harvests and bless us in our measurements. He would
then hand the fruit to the youngest of children present. When the Prophet
(p) saw the mountain of Uhud, he said: "This is a mountain that loves us
and is loved by us. (no matter that the Prophet and companions were
severely hurt and his most beloved uncle Hamza was martyred beside it).
It is reported that on his way to Makkah to conquer the city he saw a she
dog nursing its pappies and asked his companion Jubair ibn Sharahah to
watch her lest she may be trodden by the Military or frightened by the
horses.
They are all equal before Him; the most honorable with Allah is that who
is the most pious. Allah the Almighty says: "O mankind! We have created
you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that
you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah
is that who is the most pious." (49:13).
Allah (Glorified be He) also says: "O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord
Who created you from one soul, and created from it his mate, and
dispersed from them both many men and women and reverence Allah
through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do not cut the
relations of) the wombs. Surely, Allah is Ever a Watcher over you. "(4: l).
Certainly mankind has maternal and paternal relations from Adam and
Eve, and thus they have a duty towards each other, to communicate on
purely human basis and be good to each other. It is the believers who
understand this kind of human ties and they communicate with others on
this basis due to fear of their Lord and the desire to obey Him. Truly
Allah says: "Those who join that, which Allah has commanded to be
joined, fear their Lord and dread the evil of reckoning". (13:21).
People are equal in their right to freedom and equality and for the
protection of their life, honor and property, no matter what their colors or
religions are. Allah the Almighty said commanding the believers, "O you
who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even
though it is against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin... "(4:135)
Mankind is all equal in their right to exist and populate the earth, and also
take part in construction and creating life therein. Allah the Almighty
says, "He brought you forth from the earth and settled you
therein"(11:61). They are all the servants of Allah and Adam is their
father. Therefore, no one can claim to be superior to any other human
being.
Allah the Almighty addresses mankind in the Qur'an saying "O Children
of Adam, O Mankind" which means they are all equal in origin.
Allah (Glorified be He) says: "O Children of Adam! We have bestowed
raiment upon you to screen your private parts, and as an adornment, and
the raiment of righteousness, that is better. "(7:26), and says: "O Children
of Adam! Let not Satan deceive you."(7:27), and says: "O Children of
Adam! Take your adornment, while praying, and eat and drink but be not
excessive. "(7:31), and says: "O mankind! Worship your Lord, Who
created you and those who were before you so that you may become
pious." (2:21).
40
And Says: "O mankind! Remember the Grace of Allah upon you!" (35:3),
and says: "O mankind! A similitude has been coined, so listen to it
(22:73).
This is the third issue which results out of faith and belief in the Lord of
mankind. It is the belief that earth has been created for all human beings,
as Allah Truly says: "And the earth He has put for the creatures."
(55:10), which means that every living being has the right to live, work
and earn his livelihood as Allah the Almighty says: "He brought you forth
from the earth and settled you therein." (11:61), and says: "It is He, Who
has made the earth subservient to you, so walk in the path thereof and eat
of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection." (67:15) Allah the
Almighty also says: "Who has made the earth a resting place for you, and
the sky as a structure." (2:22), and says: "It is He, Who created for you
all that is on earth." (2:29).
Earth and all its resources and all that exists on it, has been created by
Allah and subjected to mankind to populate it with righteousness, piety
and good deeds, which will increase its productivity and welfare, and
bring happiness to people living on it. Allah (Glorified be He) says: "He
brought you forth from the earth and settled you therein." (11:61) The
Prophet (p) asserted: "People are partners in water, grass and fire." He
also said to Azzubair ibn alAwwam: "The land is the land of Allah and
the children are the children of Allah, so wherever you find prosperity,
settle down." (Narrated by Ahmed)
So, no one really owns the earth, it is only Allah, Who is the Owner of
the earth and all that is therein. Allah the Almighty says: "Say: to whom
belongs the earth and whosoever is therein If you know? They will say: 'lt
is Allah's' (23:84). People can only make benefit of the earth and its
resources and populate it as long as they live. Death then follows to prove
the false claim of anyone who alleges that he truly owns anything on
earth.
41
No one has the right to expel someone from his land claiming that God
gave it to him specifically, out of all His creatures, like the allegation of
the Jews in their owning the land of Palestine according to a previous
covenant given by God to Abraham and his offspring, as we shall see in
the Books of the Torah starting from Genesis:l7 and what follows. So,
every body is His creatures and servants, He is their Lord, Sustainer and
Protector. He is the Lord of the Universe.
Just as we believe in Allah, the One and only God, the Lord of mankind,
we also believe that He is the Most Beneficent the Most Merciful.
The Most Beneficent: He is the source of every mercy, and His mercy
embraces all creatures; man, animals, plants, angels and jinn. All that
exists in this universe enjoys His mercy and benevolence, as Allah the
Almighty says: "...and My Mercy embraces all things." (7: 156), and
says: " It is out of His Mercy that He has put for you night and day, that
you may rest therein, during the night and that you may seek of His
Bounty by day, and in order that you may be grateful. " (28:73), and says:
and among His Signs is this, that He sends the winds as glad tidings,
giving you a taste of His Mercy, and that the ships may sail at His
Command and that you may seek of His Bounty, in order that you may be
thankful. ". (30:46) and says: "Look then at the effects (results) of Allah's
Mercy, how He revives the earth after its death." (30:50).
Allah (Glorified be He) also says in the Qur'an, "The Most Beneficent has
taught the Qur’an. He created man. He taught him eloquent speech. "(55:
l- 4). Following these verses, are almost 20 verses mentioning the signs of
Allah's Mercy towards His creation, in a way which refreshes their souls
and awakens their consciousness and reform their lives in this world and
in the Hereafter.
Out of the perfection of His Mercy, He did not only provide His ' creation
with these signs of mercy, and means of comprehension and perception;
i.e. the hearing, the sight, and natural guidance, but He also provided
them with the Divine revelation. God sent His Messengers and the Books
to His creation and provided them with signs and evidences, and
concluded His Messages with the Message of Muhammad (p) who was
sent by Allah to the whole mankind. Allah says: 'And We have not sent
you except as a mercy for mankind. "(21:107). `
42
The Most Merciful: He is the most Merciful. This is a special mercy that
He bestows over whomever He chooses of His creation. It is out of His
Mercy that He sent His Messengers, to convey His religion and guidance
to His pious believers, who acted as true vicegerents and followed His
guidance. So He increased their guidance and bestowed on them their
piety. Allah also bestowed His mercy upon those believers and made
them a mercy to other servants, as Allah the Almighty says: "The
believers, men and women, are supporters of one another, they enjoin the
right and forbid the wrong. They perform the prayer, and give the Zakah,
and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His Mercy on them.
Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All- Wise. "(9:71).
Belief that Allah is One, that there is no deity except Him, and that He is
the Lord of mankind, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful, will create
strong and determined generations. When one believes that his life is in
the hands of Allah and that He is the source of his providings bestowed
upon him by His Bounty, this will make him rid himself of the fetters of
cowardice and weakness, and will set off in life, to work hard, fearing
nothing but Allah (Glorified be He).
It is narrated that the commander of the Romans sent to Khalid ibn al-
Walid on the day of the battle of Yarmuk a letter threatening him. Khalid
wrote back to him saying: 'I swear by Allah if you were in heaven, Allah
would have descended you down to us, or raised us up to you as He says:
'And you cannot escape in the earth or in the heaven. And besides Allah
you have neither any Protector nor any Helper. And those who disbelieve
in the signs of Allah and the Meeting with Him, it is they who have no
hope of My Mercy, and it is they who will have a painful torment.
"(29:22-23). I warn you, and inform you that victory is ours, because
Allah is with us".
This confidence and this power emanate from belief in Allah the
Almighty, and that He is the Irresistible Supreme over His slaves, and
nothing can escape from Him in the earth or in the heaven.
These are the attributes of Allah in the Holy Qur'an. And this is the crux
of guidance, and the first base of the message of Qur'an. This is what we
need and the whole mankind which has gone astray needs.
43
We mentioned earlier that the Glorious Quran which Allah sent down to
mankind in order to bring them out from darkness into light is based on
guidance and truth. We also said that guidance is based on belief in Allah
and the Day of Judgment.
Muslims believe that Allah is the Owner of the Day of Resurrection, and
that He did not create this universe or made us vicegerents in vain, and
that we shall be recompensed for what we have earned. This actually
conforms with the Wisdom and Justice of Allah, as He Truly says: "And
Allah has created the heavens and the earth with truth, in order that each
person may be recompensed what he has earned and they will not be
wronged."(45:22).
There must be a day when Allah will judge every man for what he has
done; it is called the Day of Judgment where He will requite those who
do evil with that which they have done and reward those who do good
with what is best. Allah the Almighty says: "Shall We then treat the
Muslims like the criminals. " (68:35), and says: "Shall We treat those
who believe and do righteous deeds, like corruptors on earth? Or shall
We treat the pious like wicked." (38:28).
There must be a day when people will be brought back to Allah, and
every person will be recompensed what he has earned; otherwise, the
Creator of this universe would be unjust if the oppressor and the
oppressed, the pious and the criminal, the righteous and the evil doer will
be treated equally, after they all have been buried. Allah the Almighty
Truly says: So whosoever does good equal to the weight of an atom shall
see it. And whosoever does evil equal to the weight of an atom shall see
it. "(99:7-8).
Allah the Almighty also says:"And We created not the heaven and the
earth and all that is between them without purpose! That is the
consideration of those who disbelieve! Then woe to those who disbelieve
from the Fire! Shall We treat those who believe and do righteous good
deeds, like corruptors on earth? Or shall We treat the pious as the
wicked. "(38:27-28).
Most of the verses of the Glorious Qur'an which referres to this universe;
the heavens; the earth, the stars, the mountains, the trees etc, and the
stories of the Messengers and the previous nations they all prove that this
day will definitely take place, and give evidence for this.
Allah the Almighty says: "O mankind! If you are in doubt about the
Resurrection, then verily! We have created you from dust, then from a
sperm- drop, then from a clinging clot then from a little lump of flesh,
formed and unformed, that We may make clear to you. And We settle in
the wombs whom we will for an appointed term, then We bring you out as
an infant, then (give you growth) that you may reach your age of full
strength. And among you there is he who dies (young), and among you
there is he who is brought back to the miserable old age, so that he knows
nothing after having known. And you see the earth barren, but when We
send down water on it, it quivers and swells and grows every lovely kind.
That is because Allah is the Truth, and because He gives life to the dead
and because He is Able to do all things. And surely, the Hour is coming,
there is no doubt about it, and certainly, Allah will resurrect those who
are in the graves. "(22:5-7).
So, belief in Allah is the greatest motive for doing righteous deeds, and
belief in the Hereafter is the best motive for refraining from evil deeds
altogether. This belief is the base of guidance in human life.
45
c. Justice:
Umm Salamah narrated: "two men brought their dispute to the Messenger
of Allah, and each of them claimed a right on the other. The Messenger of
Allah (p) then said to them, “You bring your disputes to me, and perhaps
some of you are more eloquent in their plea than others, in which case I
will give a judgment based on what I heard from him. Therefore,
whatever I rule for anyone, which by right belongs to his brother, I am
only giving him a portion of Hell." When they heard what the prophet (p)
said, each of them said to the other (it is my brother's right), upon which
the Messenger of Allah (p) said to them: "Since you both have said so, go
and solve your dispute, and each of you should only take what is truly his
share". (Reported by Imam Ahmed)
d. Fulfilling a covenant:
If it was not for the faith and fear of judgment in the Hereafter, the
Prophet (p) could have said to them that they were atheists and enemies,
and they were not obliged to keep any promise with them. But Islam
commands the Muslims to fulfill their covenants even with atheists, even
if the covenant was taken by force.
Imam Bukhari reports: 'Omar bin al-Khattab got some land in Khaibar
and he went to the Prophet (p) to consult with him about it. He said: "O
Messenger of Allah! I got some land in Khaibar more valuable and
precious to me than any other property I ever had and I want to give it in
charity for Allah, so what do you advise me to do?" The Messenger of
Allah (p) said to him: "If you wish you can give the land as endowment
and give its fruit in charity." So, Omar gave it in charity as endowment,
on the condition that the land would not be sold, inherited or given away
as a gift, and this was the fist religious endowment in Islam.
47
All these good deeds were the fruit of the guidance and belief established
by the Glorious Quran which is better than any manmade system run by
governments after long summits and discussions.
48
The origin of the word truth (Haqq in Arabic) denotes stability and
constancy. Allah the Almighty says in the Qur'an: "Allah has created the
heavens and the earth with truth." (45:22), it means that He created them
according to a system of attraction and repulsion forces, which guarantees
their stability. Allah the Exalted says: "It is not for the sun to reach the
moon, nor does the night overtake the day. They all float, each in an
orbit."(36:40).
Allah the Almighty who holds the heavens and the earth lest they move
away from their places, and created them with truth, is also the One Who
made this truth the foundation of man, or rather every creation of Allah.
- He says about the angels: "We send not the angels down except with the
truth." (15:8).
- Allah the Almighty also says about the Messengers: "Verily, the
Messengers of our Lord did come with the truth." (7:53).
- Glorified be Allah says about His Messenger "Verily, We have sent you
with the truth, a bringer of glad tidings and a Warner." (2: 119).
- And said about the Qur'an: "And with truth We have sent it down, and
with truth it has descended." (17:105).
- Allah Glorified be He, made the truth one of the distinct features of the
nation of the Prophet and their message, as the Qur'an says: "And of those
whom We have created there is a community who guides with the truth,
and establishes justice therewith " (7: 1 8 1).
- Allah Exalted be He, made it the last fact of everyman’s life as He says:
"And the stupor of death will come in truth." (50:19).
49
- And made it the balance of justice on the Day of Resurrection: "And the
weighing on that day will be the truth."(7:8).
And He also made it, Glorified be He, the final word on that Day:" And
they will be judged with truth."(39:75).
Everyone will return to Allah the Just Lord in the Hereafter: "Then they
are returned to Allah, their True Master." (6:62).
- Finally the truth is Allah and all that He does and says: "On that Day
Allah will pay them in full their true recompense, and they will know that
Allah, He is the Manifest Truth." (24: 25).
The truth that is meant in the Qur'an is the absolute justice that man
practices with His Lord, with himself; his wife, his brother, his parents,
his enemy and all that he is in contact with.
Allah the Almighty says: "Then is he who knows that what has been
revealed to you from your Lord is the truth like one who is blind? They
will only be reminded who are people of understanding. Those who fulfill
the Covenant of Allah and do not break the contract. And those who join
that which Allah has ordered to be joined and fear their Lord, and are
afraid of evil of account. And those who are patient, seeking the
Countenance of their Lord, and establish prayer, and spend from what
We have provided for them, secretly and publicly, and prevent evil with
good, those will have the good consequence of home, gardens of
perpetual residence. They will enter them with whoever were righteous
among their fathers, their spouses, and their descendants and the angels
will enter upon them from every gate (saying): 'peace be upon you' for
that you patiently endured! And Excellent is the final home. But those
who break the Covenant of Allah, after contracting, and sever that which
Allah has ordered to be joined and spread corruption on earth - for them
is the curse; And they will have the worst home. Allah extends provision
for whom He wills, and restricts. And they rejoice in the worldly life,
while the life of worldly life is not, compared to the Hereafter, except
enjoyment."(13:19-26).
50
This truth includes Monotheism and worshipping none but Allah, justice,
prohibiting evil deeds and fulfilling all rights, observing the values and
virtues which were ordained by Allah and stated in the Qur’an.
Allah the Almighty says: "Verily, Allah enjoins justice and good conduct
and giving to kith and kin and forbids evil deeds, and bad conduct and
oppression, He admonishes you, that you may take heed." (16:90), and
says: "O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice, as witnesses to
Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin...
"(4:135), and says: "O you who believe! Fulfill (your) obligations. "(5:1).
Allah the Almighty also says in the Qur'an: "O you who believe! Stand
out firmly for Allah and be just witnesses and let not enmity and hatred of
others make you avoid justice. Be just that is closer to piety, and be
careful of Allah. Verily, Allah is Well Acquainted with what you do."
(5:8), and says: "O you who believe! Avoid many suspicions, indeed some
suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. "(49:12),
and says: "O you who believe! Let not a group scoff at another group, it
may be that the latter are better than the former; nor let (some) women
scoff at other women, it may be that the latter are better than the former.
"(49:11), and says: "O mankind! We have created you from a male and a
female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one
another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is that (believer)
who are the most pious. "(49:13).
Truth then is the second fundamental element which is stated in the
Qur'an. There are several examples which clarify what the Muslims have
produced for humanity, whether providing for the needy and the poor,
fulfilling covenants or supporting the oppressed in a way which has not
been known throughout human history except for those who were guided
by this Qur'an.
Allah the Almighty says in the Qur’an: "O you who believe! Stand out
firmly for justice, as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against
yourselves, or your parents, or your kin..."(4:135), which reflects
absolute justice.
It was narrated that a man from the Ansar called Tu'mah ibn Ubayriq,
stole armor and food from another Muslim called Rifa'ah bin Zaid and
entrusted the armor a Jew called Zaid bin al-Samin. The secret was
disclosed when someone saw the armor with the Jew, and the Jew was
accused of this robbery who in turn denied the false claim and said that
Tu'mah has entrusted him the armor.
51
When Tu'ma denied that the Jew could not prove his story as the stolen
armor was found in his house which was a physical evidence. So, he
became the suspect. The Prophet (p) was about to pass a sentence against
him. At that time Allah revealed nine verses acquitting the Jew and
accusing the Muslim, because it was the truth; and Allah sent Muhammad
(p) with the guidance and religion of truth.
Allah the Almighty says concerning this event : "Surely, We have sent
down to you the Book in truth so you might judge between men by that
which Allah has shown you, so be not a pleader for the treacherous.........
Allah has sent down to you the Book, and the Wisdom, and taught you
that which you knew not. And ever great is the Grace of Allah unto you.
(4:105-113).
This is the Qur'an which condemned the Muslim as he acted unjustly, and
declared the Jew innocent. How can it be compared to what is in the
Torah, "Thou shalt not lend upon interest to thy brother; interest of
money, interest of victuals, usury of any thing that is lent upon interest:
Unto a foreigner thou mayest lend upon interest; but unto thy brother thou
shalt not lend upon interest". (Deuteronomy: 23:20·2l).
Absolute Justice:
The Glorious Quran says: "O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah
and be just witnesses and let not enmity and hatred of others make you
avoid justice. Be just that is nearer to piety.... "(5:8). This is another
example of absolute justice as stated by the Qur'an. It was narrated that
the Prophet ( p) sent 'Abdullah ibn Rawahah to estimate the dates of the
Jews of Khaibar, on the palm trees. The Prophet (p) has previously made
an agreement with them that half the dates will be for the Muslims and
the other half for the Jews. As usual the Jews wanted to bribe 'Abdullah
but he refused and said to them: "You enemies of Allah! Do you want to
bribe me? By Allah I despise you more than the monkeys and the swine,
and Muhammad (p) is more beloved to me than my own self but my
hatred for you and my love for the Prophet (p) does not make me avoid
justice, as Allah the Almighty says: ".. and let not enmity and hatred of
others make you avoid justice. Be just that is nearer to piety. "(5:8).
Have the people of the Scripture a single verse like this in their Book?
52
It is narrated that when the Muslim leader Abu 'Ubaidah bin al-Jarrah
undertook to protect the inhabitants of Damascus, Hims and other cities
of Sham, and safeguarded them from the Romans who were oppressing
them at that time, and in return levied Jizyah(1) upon them. When he had
to leave the cities and fight the Romans far from them, he refunded the
amount of jizyah they paid. He told them we have taken this to safeguard
you and your cities from the Romans. We cannot do that now, as we are
compelled to go to them. So, we have no right in your Jizyah. So, have it.
They wanted him to accept it as a gift and appreciation of the Muslims'
justice and honesty, but he refused.
Where are this honesty and virtue of Muslims, and the stand of States
which attack innocent people and rob their properties and valuables
pleading that they are protecting them, and defending their country, as we
see nowadays in Palestine, Chechnya, Iraq etc.
It is narrated that Sheikul Islam Bin Taymiyyah, went to Kazan the Khan
of the Tatars asking him to return back the properties of the Muslims and
their captives, Muslims and non-Muslims under their covenant, whom the
Tatars detained with them. Kazan released only the Muslim captives and
their properties and refused to release the Jews and the Christians. But
Bin Taymiyyah insisted upon their release. He told Kazan that the
Muslims have undertaken to protect them, and are obliged to fulfill their
rights, as they have the same rights and duties as the Muslims. So, the
Muslims cannot accept to be released until they were all released with
them. Finally Kazan accepted and released all the Jews and Christians.

Testimony of a Copt
This was the testimony of Armanosah, who knew very early about the
reality of those Muslims through the spies that her father sent with his
gifts to the Prophet (p), and she finally saw with her own eyes those
people who came with the message of justice and truth to get people out
of the worship of servants into the worship of Allah, the Lord of servants,
and out of the hardship of life into the affluence of this life and the
Hereafter and out of the injustice of religions into the justice of Islam.
The Romans were fleeing from the Muslims on their way they were
throwing bundles of gold and precious stones to engage the Muslim
soldiers. But they where neglecting this huge wealth on their way getting
it aside and proceeding towards their opponents. They were not
conquering people; on the contrary, they were trying to change their
hearts.
Therefore when the conquer of Egypt was over, they gave the people the
freedom to keep their religions, churches, monasteries and synagogues.
They protected their property, lives and honor. Peace and security
prevailed every where which surpassed human beings to birds and
animals. When 'Amr bin al-As the conqueror of Egypt wanted to travel to
Alexandria to fight the Romans, he saw that a dove has laid her eggs over
the roof of his tent, so he gave orders that the tent should be kept until her
nestlings could fly.
This is the nation that makes life, and the Book that makes the alive.

54
This is the book of Allah and His religion with which He sent His
messengers confirming what came before it, i.e. the Torah and the
Gospel, which were revealed to Moses and Jesus. Thus it offers the most
accurate vision and the most truthful ideology ever existed, guiding to the
truth and the straight path bringing out mankind from darkness to light.
- "Have they not looked at the heaven above them, how We have
structured it and adorned it, and there are no rifts in it? And the earth!
We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and have
produced therein every kind of lovely growth; as an insight and a
Reminder for every servant turning to Allah. And We have sent down
blessed water from the sky, then We produced therewith gardens and
grains that are reaped; And tall date-palms, with ranged clusters; A
provision for the servants. And We have given life therewith to a dead
land. Thus will be the resurrection (of the dead)."(50:6-11).
He says:
"Allah it is He Who has made the sea of service to you, that ships may
sail through it by His Command, and that you may seek of His Bounty,
and that you may be thankful " (45:12).
55
"Allah is He Who has created the heavens and the earth and sent down
water from the sky, and thereby brought forth fruits as provision for you;
and He has made the ships to be of service to you, that they may sail
through the sea by His Command; and He has made rivers to be of
service to you. And He has made the sun and the moon, both constantly
pursuing their courses, to be of service to you; and He has made the night
and the day, to be of service to you. And He gave you of all that you
asked for. And if you count the Blessings of Allah, never will you be able
to enumerate them. "(14: 32-34).
"Allah knows what every female bears, and by how much the wombs fall
short or exceed. Everything with Him is in due proportion. He is the All-
Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Grand, and the Most High."
(13:8-9).
"Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever Living, the sustainer of
existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him, nor sleep. To Him belongs
whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth."(2:255).
"He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity the Knower of the unseen
and the witnessed. He is the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. He is
Allah other than Whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Sacred , the
Granter of peace, the Bestower of security, the Guardian over all, the
Exalted in Might, the Dominant, the Superior. Glory be to Allah above
whatever they associate with Him." (59:22-23).
Thus presents the Quran Allah the Glorified to His servants, in His grand
names and high attributes. And makes Him beloved to His servants, and
make them beloved to Him. It leads them to His guidance so that they
compete in virtues and righteousness urging for His mercy and for fear of
His torment. Allah the Exalted says: "Hasten to forgiveness from your
Lord, and for Paradise as wide as are the heavens and the earth,
prepared for the pious; those who spend in prosperity and in adversity,
who repress anger, and who pardon men. Verily, Allah loves the good
doers. And those who, when they commit an immorality, or wrong
themselves with evil, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins;
- and who can forgive sins but Allah? - and do not persist in what
(wrong) they have done, while they know. For such, the reward is
Forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens with rivers flowing
underneath, wherein they shall abide forever. How excellent is this
reward for the doers of good deeds. "(3:133-136).
56
Refuting Misconceptions
This is the truth with which Allah has established the existence of this
world, and accepted it as our faith and practice. We the Muslims are
made witnesses on humanity for this truth. Allah the Exalted enclosed
this truth in His last Message to humanity the Holy Quran which is the
essence of the guidance of prophets, where He specified the bases of
belief, the rights of man like freedom, equality, justice, peace, fraternity,
tolerance, love, and cooperation on virtue and pious forbidding each other
wrong and enmity. We saw examples of the Muslims behaving among
them, and behaving with others who are friends or foes.
Those who claim that Islam is a fanatic religion want to say that Islam
does not acknowledge the freedom of others in embracing the belief and
religion they wish, and would only accept that they embrace Islam as
their religion, or the sword would be the alternative. This is actually a
false claim because Islam is a religion that conforms with the natural
instinct, and accepts the fact that beliefs are never imposed by sword, and
that people only believe in what their hearts and minds accept. Islam
maintains that there is no compulsion in religion, and it is a fact of life
that people hate and reject what they are forced to accept. Allah the
Almighty says: "Invite to the Way of your Lord with wisdom and fair
preaching, and argue with them in a way that is the best." (6:125).
The call of the Prophet (p) is the same call of every Messenger and every
Divine Message. Islam believes in Moses and Jesus and all the previous
Prophets and Messengers. It believes in the Torah and the Gospel.
57
Nay, belief in Muhammad (p) and his Message is not complete until the
Muslim believes in Moses and Jesus and the Torah and the Gospel.
Whoever disbelieves in any of these, is not accepted to be a true Muslim
as Allah (Glorified be He) says: "Say: We believe in Allah and that which
has been sent down to us and that which has been sent down to Abraham,
Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants and that which has been
given to Moses and Jesus, and that which has been given to the Prophets
from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him
we have submitted." (2: 136).
Allah the Almighty also says: "Verily, those who disbelieve in Allah and
His Messengers and wish to make distinction between Allah and His
Messengers saying: We believe in some but reject others, and wish to
adopt a way in between. They are in truth disbelievers. And We have
prepared for the disbelievers a humiliating torment." (4:150-151).
We, the Muslims, believe in Moses and his Book and in Jesus and his
Book, while the Christians and the Jews do not believe in Muhammad
and his Book; so which one of the two parties does not approve the other?
Greater even is the acknowledgement in practice, as Islam allows the
Muslim to marry a Jewish or a Christian woman, which means that all
three religions will meet under one and the same roof. Is there any other
religion on earth that accepts the religion of others and respects their
belief, freedom and right to choose as Islam does?
Moreover, Islam has affirmed in the Qur'an there is no compulsion in
religion. Allah the Almighty says: "There is no compulsion in religion.
Verily, the Right Path has become distinct from the wrong path." (2:256),
And says: "The truth is from your Lord. Then whosoever wills, let him
believe, and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve."(18:29).
Allah Exalted be He said to His Prophet ( p): "And had your Lord willed,
those on earth would have believed all of them together. So, will you then
compel mankind, until they become believers?" (10:99) and said: "... your
duty is only to convey and on Us is the reckoning." (13:40).
The mission of the Prophet ( p) is only to convey His Lord's Message and
call people to monotheism, and whoever wills to disbelieve will be only
harming himself, as Allah the Almighty says: "And whoever disbelieved
let not his disbelief grieve you, to Us is their return, and We shall inform
them what they have done." (31:23), and says: "Not upon you is their
guidance, but Allah guides whom He wills." (2:272).
58
Allah the Almighty has sent His Messenger (p) as a mercy to mankind:
Muslims, non-Muslims of the People of the Scripture, and of polytheists
and atheists. Allah has commanded His Messenger to call them all to the
truth and the right path. The Prophet (p) was very much concerned about
the guidance and happiness of all mankind, and to deliver them from
darkness into light. That is why he used to get upset due to the
polytheists' aversion from him and that is why Allah the Almighty used to
console him by saying: "So destroy not yourself in sorrow for them.
Truly, Allah is the All Knower of what they do!" (35:8) and saying: "But if
they turn away, We have not sent you as a protector over them. Your duty
is to convey." (3:64)
The prophet ( p) confined his mission to conveying the message to the
atheists, polytheists and the people of the Scripture, as the Quran says:
"Say: O people of the Scripture: Come to a word that is just between us
and you, that we worship none but Allah, and that we do not associate
any partners with Him, and that none of us shall take others as lords
besides Allah. Then, if they turn away, say: "Bear witness that we are
Muslims." (42:48).
The Qur‘an did not say, if they turn away fight them with the sword, but
rather commanded the Prophet ( p) to ask them to bear witness that we
are Muslims, and leave them to the belief that they chose to themselves.
Allah the Almighty also says concerning this point: "Say Allah Alone I
worship by doing religious deeds sincerely for His sake, So worship what
you like besides Him. (39:14-15), and also asserts: " Say: Odisbelievers! I
worship not that which you worship. Nor will you worship that which I
worship. And I shall not worship that which you are worshiping. Nor will
you worship that which I worship. To you be your religion, and to me my
religion." (109: 1-6).
It is clear from the above mentioned verses that the Glorious Quran and
the Prophet ( p) acknowledge the others' right in choosing their belief and
even though one's creed is a very serious and deep issue that affects all
aspects of life, Allah the Almighty left it up to each one to choose his
belief and his judgment will be on the Day of Resurrection. It does no
harm to a Muslim for others to worship deities besides Allah. These are
beliefs and things related to every person. (Every soul earns not blame
except against itself. 6:164). This issue was finalized in the Qur'an with
the order of Allah to his Messenger to tell the polytheists: "Say: If the
Most Beneficent had a son, then I would have been the first of
worshippers." (43:81). But the truth, wisdom, justice and natural instinct
prove to us Allah is Free of need of a son, or begetter.
59
But what happened upon the advent of Islam was that polytheists fought
Muslims and prevented them from conveying the Message of Islam, and
they even tortured the Muslims, especially the weak and poor, with all
sorts of torment, humiliating them, and the verses revealed commanding
the Prophet (p) to be patient and to forgive those who oppressed the
Muslims, "Overlook their fault with gracious forgiveness" (15:85), "So
turn away from them and say Salam." (43:89).
Oppression in Makkah:
Permission to Emigrate:
When the oppression of the polytheists to the Prophet (p) and his
companions, increased in Makkah, some of them immigrated to
Abyssinia, while others were scattered among other tribes. The Prophet
(p) spent l3 years in Makkah with his companions. During that time, they
suffered all sorts of torture and humiliation and they were even boycotted
by all of Quraish tribe and pushed out of Makkah, until finally the
dignitaries of Quraish conspired to kill the Prophet (p), upon which he
was given permission by Allah to emigrate, and so he did with his
companions, and they went to Madinah.
60
Immigration to Madinah:
Abu Bakr the Companion of the Prophet ( p) talked about the difficult
time they had before immigrating to Madinah and said: "All the Arabs
were shooting us through one bow. So, we used to sleep in our armors,
and one of us would say to his companion: 'would that day ever come
when we shall be able to get deep sleep all night till the morning breaks?.
Nevertheless, Quraish did not let them live in peace in Madinah, but
followed them and threatened their property and lives. Their fault was
only that they said: our Lord is Allah.
Permission to Fight:
There had to be an end to this aggression and defiance, and there was no
room anymore for forgiveness or patience. Only then the following words
of Allah the Almighty were revealed:
"Permission to fight is given to those who are fought, because they have
been oppressed, and surely, Allah is able to bring them victory. Those
who have been expelled from their homes unjustly only because they said:
"Our Lord is Allah For had it not been that Allah checks one set of
people by means of another, monasteries, churches, synagogues, and
mosques, wherein the Name of Allah is mentioned much would surely
have been pulled down. Verily, Allah will help those who help His Cause.
Truly , Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty. Those who, if We give them power
in the earth, ordered for prayer to be performed and Zakah to be paid
and they enjoin the right and forbid the wrong. And with Allah rests the
end of all matters." (22:39-41).
And so when the Muslims lost their freedom, peace and security, they had
to carry their arms to defend their lives, their religion and their honor. As
Muslims, they were assigned the duty to defend human rights and free
mankind from worshipping any but the Lord of people. Allah the
Almighty says:
"Fight is ordained for you though you dislike it, and it may be that you
dislike some thing which is good for you." (2:216), and says: "And fight in
the Way of Allah those who fight you, but transgress not the limits. Truly
Allah likes not the transgressors." (2:190). Accordingly, is the one who is
defending his life or his honor, his children, or his property and land is
considered a transgressor or a terrorist?
61
Allah the Almighty says: "And kill them wherever you find them, and turn
them out from where they have turned you out. And oppression is worse
than killing. And fight not with them at Al-Masjid-al-Haram (the
sanctuary at Makkah), unless they fight you there. But if they attack you,
then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers. But if they
cease, then Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. And fight them until
there is no more turmoil and worship is for Allah alone. But if they cease,
let there be no transgression but against the wrong-doer. The sacred
month is for the sacred month, and for the prohibited things, there is the
Law of Equality. Then whoever transgresses the prohibition against you,
you transgress likewise against him. And fear Allah, and know that Allah
is with the pious." (2: 191-194).
We can then deduce that Islam, is a religion of peace, derived from the
Arabic word 'salam' which means peace. A Muslim does not resort to
fighting unless he is forced to; otherwise Islam welcomes peace as Allah
the Almighty says: "But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and
trust in Allah. Verily, He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. And if they
intend to deceive you then sufficient for you is Allah." (8:61-62).
So, Allah encourages peace, and asks to stick to it if the opponent inclines
to it, even if there is doubt in their intention.

The Holy Scripture
Consists of Two Books:
● Torah, the Old Testament
● Gospel, the New Testament
We mentioned earlier that the religion of Allah is one, and that the Book
which has been sent to His Messengers, had different names and
languages according to the languages of different nations that they were
sent to. It was called the Torah, the Gospel and the Qur'an, but they all
establish the basis of belief in God, the Last Day and doing righteous
deeds.
Allah the Almighty says: "Verily! Those who believe and those who are
Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last
Day and do righteous deeds shall have their reward with their Lord. On
them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve. " (2:62). Therefore, belief in
Allah, and the Day of Judgment along with righteous deeds is the major
part shared among Allah's Books and Messages, so believing in those
elements entails the belief in all Divine Books. It was already mentioned
that the Qur'an was the final Book sent by Allah and it is the truth
referred to in the verse: "And what We have revealed to you of the Book it
is the very truth, confirming that which was revealed before it. Then We
gave the Book for inheritance to such of Our servants whom We chose."
(35:31-32).
In the previous part, the characteristics of the Qur'an were mentioned and
they proved that it is the genuine authoritative Divine Book. It is the most
authentic Book. It is a criterion confirming the old Scriptures, and the
easiest Book for the purpose of glorifying Allah. We also mentioned that
the main objective of this Book is to deliver people from darkness into
light. Its essence is guidance and truth, and the essence of that guidance is
belief in Allah and the Day of Resurrection.
We shall now move on to talk about the Holy Scripture and draw a
Comparison between it and the Glorious Quran in these aspects, to find
out which one is the most suitable for understanding the word of Allah.
Which supports terrorism and spreads disturbance and corruption, and
even threatens with the destruction and devastation of humanity.
The Holy Scripture:
The Holy Scripture is a medium size book of almost 2500 pages, in small
print, and is printed in an elegant hard cover copy. It is divided into two
parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament,
or the Torah and the Gospel.
64
The New Testament consists of four gospels; Mathew, Mark, Luke and
John in addition to the Acts and Paul's letters to the Romans, Corinthians,
Galatians, Thessalonians and others. It has almost 500 pages, and is
nearly one fifth of the Holy Scripture.
Therefore, the Holy Scripture combines the Torah and the Gospel, the
Jews and the Christians together in one Book. This represents one of the
most awkward phenomena in human history. Jesus, as the Gospels say,
was sent to the Children of Israel. They were the first that he called to
belief in God on basis of Monotheism, and to be merciful to God's
servants. Strangely enough, they were the first to disbelieve in him, and
prevented people from following his guidance to the end of his life. In the
first Gospel you read that he was the son of God and that he healed those
who were born blind and the leper and brought the dead to life, while in
the last Gospel you read that the Jews conspired against him and crucified
him, even though he is the son of God or even God as some Gospels
claim. We shall therefore try here to prove that this is not the Gospel that
was revealed to Jesus, as the Quran states, and as the Christians and the
Gospels themselves admit.

(I) Each page contains 22 lines and a line contains almost 11 words, nevertheless its
volume is almost 5 times the volume of the Glorious Quran.
65
The Torah was called the Old Testament as its books revolve around old
times of history. The word "testament" as the Jews claim signifies the
covenant of God given to Abraham and his descendants to own the land
of Palestine. The covenant was repeated four times to Abraham and twice
to each of Isaac and Jacob, and also to Moses and the leaders of Israel in
a meeting attended by the Lord and the leaders of Israel saw Him as is
mentioned in Exodus:
"Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, Abihu and seventy of the
leaders of Israel. And they saw the God of Israel and [there was] under
his feet as it were a paved works of a pavement of sapphire stone, and as
it were the body of heaven in [his] clearness. And upon the nobles of the
children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God and did eat and
drink."(Exodus 24: 9-11)
Jews say that this promise was in a dream that the Children of Israel
relate orally, until God sent His Messenger Moses to save the Children of
Israel from the humiliating torment. So, this testament started with the
story of the covenant given to Abraham and his descendants and
proceeded to talk about the commands given to Moses and the genocide
and exodus from Egypt which paves the way to fulfilling the covenant
and the ownership of the Children of Israel of the promised land.
The Torah is actually a set of narrations about the creation of the world,
Adam, Noah, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the formation of the tribe of
Israel and Jacob’s twelve sons and their entrance to Egypt and their
departure from there with Moses. It also talks about the number of those
who left with Moses and their heading to Palestine etc. Therefore, it is not
the Book that was revealed to Moses, rather it is a history book of a
certain nation and their owning of a promised land.
The evidence to this is :
1. You do not read in this book any reference to its being sent by God, as
that you read in the Qur‘an:
66
6. The Church itself admits that the Torah was corrupted, as is mentioned in
the introduction of the Holy Scripture.(1) It says: ’At the beginning of the
Christian era, the Jews used to say that Moses is the author of these
books, and Jesus Christ and his Disciples accepted this claim. The fact is
the essence of the Pentateuch'(2) which is mainly the Jewish law and
tradition, is definitely related to the time when Israel started as an
organized nation.

1 Edition of the Catholic publisher, Beirut 1960, pages 3-4. '
2 lt refers to the five books: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
67
No doubt that the character of Moses predominates this era being the
mediator of the Divine Revelation and the organizer of the chosen people
in addition to being the first legislator. This Divine revelation was not
kept as a dead copy in a library closet; rather it was part of people's life
which meant that the Law should conform to the current needs.
But these amendments came in accordance with the spirit of Moses and
hence carried the stamp of his power. This Book has several marks of
more advanced events, which happened at later times in history, as is
observed clearly in the stories and laws included therein. This actually
drove several interpreters, Catholic and others to examine the origin of
the first five Books.
No Catholic scholar at our age still believes that Moses himself is the
author of all the books of the Pentateuch, starting from the story of
Creation till the death of Moses. Moreover, it is not sufficient to say that
Moses supervised the writing of the Divine Scripture which was written
by several scribes over 40 years. It must even be said together with the
Papal Committee of the Holy Scripture (1948) that there is a gradual
increase in the Law of Moses which was caused by social and religious
events that took place in the following ages. That is also seen clearly in
the historical narrations."
Comment:
These words of the Catholic Church affirm that this Torah is not the Book
that was revealed to Moses, rather it is a Book to which were added
various traditions, laws, events and stories over a long period of time, and
were written by several scribes at the age of Moses and later on, that they
even talk about the death of Moses and that there has never been a
prophet of Israel like him. This leads us to the next point concerning the
fact that the script that we have now is not the original Torah as several
additions were made later on. Our discussion in the next point is based on
the confession of the Catholic Church that the original Torah is not in our
hands now.
The Jews themselves admitted that the original Torah was burnt during
the Babylonian dispersion, and they also said that Ezra is the one who
renovated the Torah, and even claim that he was inspired by the Holy
Spirit, and hence they raised him up to the status of a god as the Qur'an
told us: "The Jews say 'Uzair (Ezra) is the son of Allah. " (9:30).
During the course of this argument, we are not trying to prove if this book
is Divine or Authentic but we shall give some examples of what is written
in it about God and His Messengers, which is morally inappropriate and
totally unacceptable to attribute to them, who came to guide mankind to
the right path not to give them an excuse to commit all sorts of immoral
acts and practice oppression and spread mischief on earth and ruin human
life.

69
We talked earlier about Allah in the Qur'an, and His attributes and
characteristics, and here we shall try to draw a comparison between what
we quoted earlier from the Qur'an and what it says about Allah and what
the Torah says about God.
God
God in the Torah is a personal God. He is only a God of the Jews, and the
soldiers and is called Yahweh. They considered God to only be the God
of Israel, and they are His chosen people of all His creation. They also
chose Him among all gods, as He is the Lord of Israel and not the Lord of
mankind Whom we believe in, worship Him alone, and put our trust in
Him.
1. A Coward God
The God of Israel as the Torah describes him (a coward god, ignorant,
jealous, full of grudge, oppressor, unjust, makes mistakes and repents,
forgets and remembers) and so their God needs someone to remind him,
as is recorded in their Torah which they wrote with their own hands.
Take for example Genesis chapter 3, after Adam and Eve ate from the
tree. "And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden
in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the
presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden. And the
LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? And
he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was
naked; and I hid myself. And he said, Who told thee that thou wast
naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou
shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be
with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the LORD God said
unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said,
The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.'(Genesis 3: 8-13)
lt goes on to say that the Lord did not accept his excuse and promised to
send them out of the Garden. The Torah goes on to explain the reason for
sending them both out of the Garden: "And the LORD God said, Behold,
the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he
put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for
70
ever: Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden,
to till the ground from whence he was taken." (Genesis 3:22-23).
So, the Torah claims that the Lord sent Adam out of the Garden simply
for fear that he may eat from the tree of life and live forever, and thus he
may share the Lord some of His attributes, namely, Knowledge and
Existence.
Can we compare this god of Israel, to our God in the Quran, our Lord and
the Lord of mankind, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful, Who
taught Adam all the names (of everything) as He wanted to show the
angels the merits of Adam, and why He has chosen him to be His
vicegerent on earth. He did not fear him when he gained the knowledge.
In Genesis: 6:
'Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth,
and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil
continually. The Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and
He was grieved in His heart. The Lord said 'I will blot out man whom I
have created from the face of the land from man to animals to creeping
things and to birds of the sky; for I am sorry that I have made them.”
(Genesis: 6:5-) .
lt goes on: "Then the flood came upon the earth for forty days, and the
water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth.
(Genesis 7:17-18) … and only Noah was left, together with those that
were with him in the ark." (Genesis 7:23)
In the next chapter of Genesis it says: "Then Noah built an altar to the
Lord, and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered
burnt offerings on the altar. " (Genesis 8:20)
71
So, this is the God of the Torah, creates man then regrets and then blots
out every living thing that was upon the face of the earth, from man to
animals, but again he regrets, and finally puts an end to all this himself
and talks to Noah and his sons as in Genesis: 9.
Then God spoke to Noah and to his sons with him, saying :
"Now behold I Myself' do establish My covenant with you, and with your
descendants after you; and with every living creature that is with you...
..... I establish My covenant with you; and all flesh shall never again be
cut of by the water of the flood neither shall there again be a flood to
destroy the earth". (Genesis 9:8-11).
God also made a physical sign in the sky to remind him of his covenant,
so that he won't forget; namely the rainbow that appears in the sky after
the rain.
God said: "This is the sign of the covenant which I am making between
Me and you and every living creature that is with you. I set My bow in
the cloud and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the
earth. 'It shall come about, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the
bow will be seen in the cloud and I will remember My covenant, which is
between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and never
again shall the water become a flood to destroy all flesh."
(Genesis 9:12-15).
But that is not all, as the torah also describes this god as being jealous and
malicious.
72
"Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. It
came about as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of
Shinar and settled there...... .... They said "Come, let us build for
ourselves a city, and a tower whose top will reach into heaven, and let us
make for ourselves a name, otherwise we will be scattered abroad over
the face of the whole earth." The Lord came down to see the city and the
tower which the sons of men had built. The Lord said 'Behold they are
one people, and they all have the same language. And this is what they
began to do, and now nothing which they purpose to do will be
impossible for them. "Come, let Us go down and there confuse their
language, so that they will not understand one another's speech". "So the
Lord scattered them abroad from there over the face of the whole earth."
(Genesis 11: 1-8)
So, the God of Israel does not want His servants to live happily and
cooperate to improve their living conditions. He rather wants to confuse
their language and scatter them all over the earth. Needless to say that this
fairy tale was invented by the sick imagination of the Jews, who wanted
to attribute their own malicious and jealous nature to God.
An Unjust God
The Jews tend to believe as is stated in the Torah that God punishes the
innocent for the fault of the guilty, and the son for the guilt of his father?
"...for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the
fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those
who hate Me. (Exodus 20:5).
The God of the Torah conducts a wrestling match with Jacob who was
named after that 'Israel'. To our surprise the God was defeated in the
match and got released only after blessing Jacob.
"And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the
breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him,
he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was
out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day
breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he
said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy
name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou
power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. And Jacob asked him,
and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that
thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there".
(Genesis: 32: 24-29)
This is just a part of what the Torah mentions about the attributes of their
God, and the reader can find hundreds of verses in this book rejected by
common sense. How can the followers of this Book be Pious and honest
to a God with the above attributes? How can they worship a jealous and
malicious God? How can they accept the law of an unjust, coward and
defeated God?
It is crystal clear from these examples that the Torah which is available
now is not the Book of Allah revealed to Moses for the guidance of the
children of Israel or the mankind.
74
Following exactly the same trend, the Torah attributed to the Messengers
some of the most awful and mean traits that a human being can ever have,
such as committing adultery, incest, treachery, cunning etc.
For example, they said that Moses killed an Egyptian young man, on a
premeditated murder as the Torah describes the act: "Now it came to pass
in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out to his brethren
and looked at their burdens. And he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew,
one of his brethren. So he looked this way and that way, and when he saw
no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand. (Exodus 2:11-13).
The Jews also claim that Moses taught the Children of Israel breach of
faith, as he commanded before departing from Egypt, that each man and
woman should borrow from their neighbors articles of gold, silver
jewelry and silk clothes; in brief all that is precious, and he led them out
of Egypt at night after they had robbed the Egyptians of their belongings,
as in Exodus 3:22:
'But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, namely, of her who dwells
near her house, articles of silver, articles of gold and clothing; and you
shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder
the Egyptians.'
The Torah also claims that Moses destroyed the kingdoms of Bashan and
Heshbon on his way to the Holy Land, i.e. he exterminated men, women
and children and thus was the first to legislate genocide on earth
(Deuteronomy: 3:1-6).
There are endless examples in the Holy Scripture concerning the way it
dealt with God and His Messengers; so we shall refer the reader to some
parts of the Torah that prove our point:
75
Noah in Genesis:
Abraham in Genesis:
"And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to
sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land. And it came to
pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai
his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that
they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save
thee alive. Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me
for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee. And it came to pass,
that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman
that she was very fair.
The princes also of Pharaoh saw her, and commended her before
Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh's house. And he
entreated Abram well for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he
asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.
And the LORD plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues
because of Sarai Abram's wife. And Pharaoh called Abram, and said,
What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that
she was thy wife? Why saidst thou, She is my sister? so I might have
taken her to me to wife: now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go
thy way. And Pharaoh commanded his men concerning him: and they
sent him away, and his wife, and all that he had". (Genesis; 12: 10-20)
76
"And the men of the place asked him of his wife; and he said, She is my
sister: for he feared to say, She is my wife; lest, said he, the men of the
place should kill me for Rebekah; because she was fair to look upon. And
it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king
of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was
sporting with Rebekah his wife. And Abimelech called Isaac, and said,
Behold, of a surety she is thy wife: and how saidst thou, She is my sister?
And Isaac said unto him, Because I said, Lest I die for her. And
Abimelech said, what is this thou hast done unto us? One of the people
might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought
guiltiness upon us. And Abimelech charged all his people, saying, He that
toucheth this man or his wife shall surely be put to death".
(Genesis 26: 7-11)
Lot in Genesis:
And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two
daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a
cave, he and his two daughters. And the firstborn said unto the younger,
Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us
after the manner of all the earth: Come, let us make our father drink wine,
and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And
they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in,
and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor
when she arose. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said
unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make
him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we
may preserve seed of our Father. And they made their father drink wine
that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived
not when she lay down, nor when she arose. Thus were both the
daughters of Lot with child by their father. And the firstborn bare a son,
and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto
this day. And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name
Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.
(Genesis 19: 30-38)
77
Jacob in Genesis:
"And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field;
and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. And Isaac loved Esau,
because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. And Jacob
sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: And Esau
said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am
faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this
day thy birthright. And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and
what profit shall this birthright do to me? And Jacob said, Swear to me
this day; and he swore unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob.
Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and
drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright".
(Genesis 25:27-34)
"And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so
that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My
son: and he said unto him, Behold, here am I. And he said, Behold now, I
am old, I know not the day of my death: Now therefore take, I pray thee,
thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me
some venison; And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring it to
me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die. And Rebekah
heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to
hunt for venison, and to bring it. And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son,
saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless
thee before the LORD before my death. Now therefore, my son, obey my
voice according to that which I command thee. Go now to the flock, and
fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them
savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth: And thou shalt bring it to
thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.
son Jacob. And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said,
Here am I; who art thou, my son? And Jacob said unto his father, I am
Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray
thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me. And Isaac
said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son?
And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me. And Isaac said
unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether
thou be my very son Esau or not. And Jacob went near unto Isaac his
father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands
are the hands of Esau. And he discerned him not, because his hands were
hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.
And he said, Art thou my very son Esau? And he said, I am. And he said,
Bring it near to me, and I will eat of my son's venison, that my soul may
bless thee. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat: and he brought
him wine, and he drank. And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near
now, and kiss me, my son. And he came near, and kissed him: and he
smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell
of my son is as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the
earth, and plenty of corn and wine: Let people serve thee, and nations
bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother's sons
bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be
he that blesseth thee".
(Genesis 27:1-29)
The interpreters say that Rabekah was training Jacob. We wonder if she
was training him to cheat and lie, or deceive his father.
And when Esau decided to kill Jacob she sent him to his uncle Laban,
until his brother calms down. There he cheated his uncle Laban.
"For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased
unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and
now when shall I provide for mine own house also? And he said, What
shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if
thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed and keep thy flock: I will
pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled
and spotted cattle, and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the
spotted and speckled among the goats: and of such shall be my hire. So
shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come
for my hire before thy face: every one that is not speckled and spotted
among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen
79
with me. And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy
word. And he removed that day the he goats that were ring straked and
spotted, and all the she goats that were speckled and spotted, and every
one that had some white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and
gave them into the hand of his sons. And he set three days' journey
between himself and Jacob: and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks. And
Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel and chesnut tree;
and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear which was in
the rods. And he set the rods which he had pilled before the flocks in the
gutters in the watering troughs when the flocks came to drink, that they
should conceive when they came to drink. And the flocks conceived
before the rods, and brought forth cattle ringstraked, speckled, and
spotted. And Jacob did separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks
toward the ringstraked, and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he
put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto Laban's cattle.
And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle did conceive, that
Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that they
might conceive among the rods. But when the cattle were feeble, he put
them not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the stronger Jacob's".
(Genesis 30: 30-42)
Moses in Deuteronomy:
Moses in Exodus:
"And it shall come to pass, that, when ye go, ye shall not go empty:
But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that
sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:
and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye
shall spoil the Egyptians". (Exodus 3:21-22)
Aaron in Exodus:
David in 2 Samuel:
The great king and Prophet David is accused of adultery and treachery
and ascribed as a War Criminal who plotted to kill his servant soldier.
"And it came to pass in an evening tide, that David arose from off his
bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he
saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look
upon. And David sent and inquired after the woman. And one said, Is not
this Bath-sheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? And
81
David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he
lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned
unto her house. And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and
said, I am with child" (Samuel 2: 2-5)
See what the King of justice do with his military officer: Details of these
examples are given in our Arabic book "The Chosen People"
(page 64-86).
We, the Muslims believe in Moses, Jesus and all the Prophets and
Messengers, and we believe in the Torah which was revealed by Allah,
but not this corrupt Book which describes God and His Messengers with
the worst and most despicable qualities a human being could have, let
alone God or any of His Messengers.
In spite of this distortion to the Torah and all the fallacies included
therein, we still treat the Jews as People of the Scripture, and treat them
as people who have their own religion and belief. We do not expect of
them more than what the Torah commanded them to do, and what Moses
was sent with, i.e. belief in God and the Day of Resurrection. Whoever
disbelieves will suffer from his disbelief. "If then they answer you not,
know then that the Revelation (this Qur'an) is sent down with the
knowledge of Allah." (11:14).
82
Multiculturalism and
Freedom of Belief
All that Islam expects from those who do not believe in it as a religion, is
not to prevent the Muslims from conveying the message of Islam as
mentioned above, and not to oppress Muslims simply because they are
Muslims.
Truly Allah says: "So if they withdraw from you, and fight not against
you, and offer you peace, then Allah has opened no way for you against
them." (4:90).
When Islam protects the rights and freedom of non-Muslims who are the
subjects of a Muslim state; let us see what the Holy Scripture says about
non-Jewish subjects; in other words, what do the Jews say about
accepting the others, multiculturalism and freedom of belief.
The Holy Scripture starts with a false claim about the covenant that God
made with Abraham through a dream that Abraham saw four times,
giving him the same promise that he and his descendants will own this
land stretching from the Nile in Egypt to the Euphrates.
83
This promise was repeated to Isaac and Jacob also in a dream, and also to
Moses and the 70 leaders of Israel in a meeting attended by the Lord,
where they ate and drank and saw the Lord as the Torah claims (Exodus
24:9-l l). During this meeting the covenant was given again to them in
public, clearly stating that the Lord gave them the land of Palestine. So
the Torah does not stress on the belief in God, His bounty and His
punishment, rather it is talking about a personal God, the Lord of Israel
and no one else.
Nevertheless, the Torah, does not give others the right to believe in what
they choose, rather it calls for the extermination of those who do not
believe in the God of Israel.
Deuteronomy13 says:
"[ This is what you must do] if, with regard to one of your cities that God
your Lord is giving you as a place to live, you hear a report, stating that
irresponsible men among you have been successful in leading the city's
inhabitants astray by saying, let us worship another god and have a novel
spiritual experience. You must investigate and probe, making careful
inquiry. If it is established to be true, and such a revolting thing has
occurred in your midst, then you must kill all the inhabitants of the city
by the sword. Destroy it and everything in it as taboo, and [kill] all its
animals by the sword."(Deuteronomy: I3: l2-15)
Also in Deuteronomy: 17
"[ This is what you must do] when you discover a man or woman doing
evil in the eyes of God your Lord in one of the settlements that God your
Lord is giving you. [That person] will have violated [Gods] covenant, by
going and worshiping or bowing down to the sun, moon or other
heavenly bodies, whose [worship] I prohibited When it is told to you, you
must listen and carefully interrogate [the witnesses]. If the accusation is
established to be true, and this revolting practice has been done in Israel,
you shall take that man or woman who did the wicked act out to your
gates. You shall then pelt the man or woman to death with stones The
accused shall be put to death only through the testimony of two or three
witnesses. He shall not be put to death through the testimony of one
witness. (Deuteronomy: I7: 2-6)
84
2. Not to transgress the right and seize other's rights, not to kill non-
combatants such as women, minors, old people, hermits, monks, etc. It is
not allowed to destroy crops, cut trees, or even slaughter an animal more
than what is necessary for food. Details of what is permitted and what is
allowed in war are found in the instructions given by the Prophet (p) and
his rightly guided Caliphs to their leaders. For example the Caliph Abu
Bakr gave detailed instructions to his commander Yazid bin Abi Sufian:
"...You may pass by people who have devoted their lives to worship in
monasteries and temples; leave them alone and do not harm them."
This is the stance of Islam towards fighting, so how does the Torah deal
with this issue? The main motive for killing and fighting in the Torah is
extermination and owning of land, to enable the people of Israel to
dominate other nations, and usurp the Promised Land. Prophet Moses has
fled from Egypt with the children of Israel to escape the oppression of the
Pharaoh, but once they were saved they disobeyed God who drowned the
Pharaoh, and saved them. Therefore, God punished them, as they
wandered through the land for forty years.
But the Jews claim that God commanded them in the Torah to get up and
fight for the land they were promised: "God our Lord spoke to us at
Horeb, saying: You have remained near this mountain too long. Turn
around and head toward the Amorite highlands and all its neighboring
85
territories in the Aravah, the hill country, the lowlands... See! I have
placed the land before you. Come, occupy the land that God swore He
would give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and to their
descendants after them.' (Deuteronomy 1:6-8)
In Deuteronomy 2:
"Now set out and cross the Arnon Brook. See ! I have given over Sichon,
The Amorite king of Cheshbon, and his land into your hands. Begin the
occupation! Provoke him into war! (Deuteronomy 2: 24). Moses says: 'I
sent emissaries from the Kedemoth Desert to Sichon king of Cheshbon
with a peaceful message, saying: We wish to pass through your land. We
will travel along the main highway, not turning to the right or the left...
..... We only wish to cross the Jordan to the land that God our Lord is
giving us. But Sichon, King of Cheshbon, would not let us pass through
his land ..... God said to me, 'See! I have begun to place Sichon and his
land before you. Begin the occupation and take possession of his land '
Sichon and all his troops came out to meet us in battle at Yahatz. God our
Lord gave him over to us, so that we killed him along with his sons and
all his troops. We then captured all his cities, and we annihilated every
city, including the men, women and children, not leaving any survivors.
(Deuteronomy 2:26-35)
He goes on: " We then turned and traveled along the road to the Bashan,
where Og and his troops came to confront us in battle at Edre’i. God said
to me, Do not be afraid of him, since I have turned him over to you along
with all his people and his land You will do the same to him as you did to
the Amorite king Sichon, who lived in Cheshbon.’ God thus also turned
Og, king of the Bashan, and all his people over to us, and we defeated
him, not leaving any survivors. We then captured all his cities, not
leaving a single city that we did not take from [his people]. These
included the entire Argov group of 60 cities that constituted Og's
kingdom in the Bashan. (Deuteronomy:3: 1-4).
It was mentioned above that peace is the message of the Quran, and that
Islam derives its name from Salam which means peace. Allah the
Almighty says; 'O you who believe! Enter perfectly in Islam." (2:208),
and says: "But if they incline to peace, you also incline to it, and (put
your) trust in Allah." (8:61).
This is how the Jews see international relations; if those being fought
respond peacefully, they become the subjects of the Jews and serve them,
but if they reject, their males shall be killed by the sword and their
women, children, animals and all the goods are taken as war spoils. See
the inhuman arrogant words in the verses:" [16] But of the cities of these
people, which the LORD thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou
shalt save alive nothing that breatheth [17] But thou shalt utterly destroy
them;" Can we find a similar thinking in human history?

Introduction:
The call of Islam is based as the Qur'an states on wisdom and fair
preaching. Islam acknowledges all divine Religions and all the
Messengers and Books sent by Allah. Islam, as we clarified above, does
not force anyone to embrace Islam. The Holy Scripture, on the other
hand, does not accept that others have this freedom of choice, but rather
imposes genocide on them, even their animals and land, as a punishment.
Islam does not accept fighting except in cases of ultimate necessity, to
defend its freedom and existence, not to usurp others' land.
As for the amount of the jizyah it was no more than one dinar per year, in
return of which, those who paid it enjoyed protection with their families,
and if the Muslims could not fulfill their promise of protecting them, they
get their money back, as we mentioned earlier when the Muslim leader
Abu 'Ubaidah bin al-Jarrah refunded the inhabitants of Sham (now Syria),
the amount of jizyah they paid, as he could not fulfill his promise to
defend them.
Jizyah
Final Comparison
Finally, herein is a comparison between the Quran and the Holy Scripture
concerning all the issues that we discussed earlier and adding some new
points from the Holy Scripture:
Third: Mankind
Man in the Quran is the master of this Man in the Holy Scripture is an evil
universe. Allah created man with his creature God regretted that He created
hand and breathed into Him the soul him (Genesis:6) The Lord was sorry that
which He created for him He had made man on the earth and He
grieved in His heart. The Lord said I will
blot out man whom I have created from
the face of the land.
Allah taught Adam all the names (of
everything) and made him His vicegerent

mentioned? Verily, We have created man
from drops of mixed semen in order to try
him, so We made him hearer seer. Verily,
We showed him the way whether he be
grateful or ungrateful (76:1-3)
ln the Qur'an, the earth is subjected to all The earth in the Holy Scripture is only for
Mankind "And the earth He has put for the Children of Israel,
the creatures" (55:10), i.e. for every "When the Most High divided to the nations

Fifth: Judgment:
Sanity is the main condition for legal If an ox gore a man or a woman, that they die:

really be a Divine Revelation?
Sixth: Rights:
Rights in Islam are absolute; they are not On the contrary, in the Holy Scripture
bound by kinship relations or religions. "O rights are bound by kinship relations:
you who believe stand out firmly for justice, "You shall not demand interest from
as witnesses to Allah, even though it be your countrymen on a loan of money
against yourselves, or your parents, or your or of food... You may demand interest

The reason behind this variation is not
clear.
Ritual purification in Islam is The woman in this case, as the Torah states:

Allah the Almighty says: "Fight is ordained for you though you dislike it,
and it may be that you dislike some thing which is good for you." (2:216)
and also says: "And argue not with the people of the Scripture, unless it
be in (a way) that is better." (29:46).
This is how Islam deals with the issues of fighting and arguing, abiding
by truth and justice, concerned about spreading love and peace, and
avoiding all causes of enmity and disputing.
We shall not waste much time talking about the producers of these
programs, but what we are mostly concerned about is the permanent guest
of this program; namely Father Zachariah Boutros, who has tried to give
some sort of authentication to what he says, through referring to several
titles of books and references written by Muslim and non—Muslim
writers alike. It is obvious that his purpose is to stir doubts and
misconceptions about Islam, hoping that Muslims would abandon their
religion, even if they do not embrace Christianity. This policy was
adopted earlier by Zoimer the leader of preachers in the 19m century, and
was recorded by Muhibb el-Din el—Khatib the known Islamic scholar.
Father Zachariah Boutros says that he read an article in al—Ahram
newspaper, in ll/5/2002 written by the writer Ahmad Bahjat, and titled 'a
reasonable suggestion'. This article mentions that a conference was held
at the Assembly of Islamic Research, under the title "This is Islam.'
Sheikh 'Abdul Mu'ez 'Abdul Sattar (the author of this book) who spoke at
this conference, being one of the experienced scholars, put forward a
suggestion to form an international committee, to put on trial all the
known Holy Scriptures, including the Qur'an, in order to make an
academic evaluation of their stance towards the issue of violence and
terrorism, how to deal with others who believe in different religions,
concepts of freedom and woman rights.
Ahmad Bahjat, the writer of al-Ahram article, commented that it is a
reasonable suggestion, and Father Zachariah said in turn that he accepts
the invitation, and welcomes it any time. Unfortunately, he started in this
program 'Questions About Faith,' stirring doubts and misconceptions
about Islam and the Messenger of Allah Muhammad (p), about his wives
and companions, claiming to use common sense and what are already in
books. Needless to say, not all that is written is to be taken as a piece of
evidence, as books contain facts and fallacies, what is believable and
what is not. But he only chooses what suits his purpose, even though it is
undoubtedly unbelievable.
We shall not, here, tackle all what Father Zachariah said about the
Prophet (p) but we shall only refer to what has been said about Islam
being a religion that supports violence and terrorism. Father Zachariah
says that the Prophet (p) fought 84 battles, and that he participated
himself in most of them. Father Zachariah, though, did not mention that
most of these battles were mainly to fight back raids by enemies of Islam.
Father Zachariah knows that the Prophet (p) spent thirteen years in
Makkah, facing all sorts of oppression and torture with his companions,
and finally immigrated to Madinah after Quraish conspired to kill him.
96
What followed was that the Arab tribes allied with the Jews who signed
several covenants with the Prophet (p) but as usual broke all covenants,
which is part of their nature.
Therefore, the prophet (p) had to fight back and push away the
oppressors. Father Zachariah himself admitted that 124 verses were
revealed to the Prophet ( p) calling for peace and forgiveness, but he went
on to say that these verses were all abrogated except by one verse; "Fight
against those who (1) believe not in Allah, (2) nor in the Last Day, (3) nor
forbid that which has been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger (4) and
those who acknowledge not the religion of truth (i. e. Islam) among the
people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians), until they pay the Jizyah
with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued." (9:29).
This deduction on the part of Father Zachariah, is not correct due to his
poor knowledge of Arabic and negligence of Islamic history. Therefore,
he goes on to say that Muhammad waged war against the People of the
Scripture, and levied jizyah against them, depriving their right to life and
freedom of belief. But this verse which he used as evidence, proved that
he is ignorant of the circumstances or simply ignoring them, as the verse
calls the non-combatant Muslims who were forced out of their homes to
fight the unjust and oppressors who do not believe in God or the Last Day
or forbid what God and His Messenger have forbidden; namely injustice,
unrighteous oppression, treachery, breaking the covenant, supporting the
transgressors etc. Moreover, they do not acknowledge the religion of
truth, calling for brotherhood of humanity, justice, mercy and peace.
You cannot then blame the Muslims for fighting the enemy which waged
war against them, helped their enemies and broke every covenant with
them. They are fighting an enemy which is not deterred by any
conviction, and makes lawful the sanctities of others. This kind of enemy
is to be fought against in order to protect the Muslims, and in the end he
is left to believe in what he chooses, while protecting his property, life
and honor. All that is required from him is to pay the jizyah which does
not exceed an amount of one dinar per annum as mentioned earlier.
Does father Zachariah want us to turn both cheeks for them as the bible
says: "But if any one strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other
also."(Mathew: 5:39). Nevertheless, Jesus Christ peace be upon him who
said; "But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those
who hate you, bless who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you."
(Luke: 6; 27-28) has also said; "Think not that I am come to send peace
on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." (Mathew: 10: 34).
97
l. And the angel came unto her, and said Hail, thou that art highly favored
the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women". ..And the angel
said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God And
behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt
call his name Jesus. He will be great, and shall be called the Son of the
Highest and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father
David And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his
kingdom there shall be no end."(Luke 1: 28-33)
2. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the
low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold from henceforth all generations
shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things;
and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from
generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath
scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down
the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath
filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he
spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. (Luke 1:47-
55). What will be for Abraham and his seed forever, it of course owns the
land of Palestine, which is in the Old Testament.
In the same Chapter of the Gospel according to Luke, the angel came to
Zachariah and said: "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for he has visited
and redeemed his people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in
the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy
prophets from of old that we should be saved from our enemies, and from
the hand of all who hate us; to perform the mercy promised to our fathers,
and to remember his holy covenant, the oath which he swore to our father
Abraham. (Luke 1: 68-73)
98
It seems then that the Gospels were revealed to continue the message of
the Torah in assuring the covenant of God to Abraham, to win the land of
Palestine with his descendants. So, the Messiah has not come to guide
mankind and establish justice on earth, but to restore glory to Israel. This
is stated explicitly in the first chapter of Acts: "So, when they had come
together, they asked him, Lord will you at this time restore the kingdom
to Israel? He said to them, 'It is not for you to know times or seasons
which the Father has fixed by his own authority, But you shall receive
power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be my
witness in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the
earth."(Acts 1: 6-8)
Jesus then came to fulfill the laws of the Torah, and the commands of
God to Moses. The first command in the book of Deuteronomy is the
word of God to Moses: Start owing the land, and wage a war against
them, And the command to root out the inhabitants therein and not to
show mercy to any one. So, was the fulfillment of the laws mean that
Jesus will implement these commands and instructions?
Jesus came with mercy and love saying to the children of Israel: 'Love
your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless who curse you, pray
for those who mistreat you. (Luke 6: 27-28)
But in Matthew it says: 'And behold a woman of Canaan came out of the
same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord thou
son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil. But he
answered her not a word And his disciples came and besought him,
saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us. But he answered and said I
am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord help me. But he
answered and said It is not fair to take the children's bread and to cast it to
dogs. And she said: Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall
from their masters’ table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her: O
woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her
daughter was made whole from that very hour.”(Mathew 15: 22-28)
Does this mean that Jesus hated the Canaanites as the Torah stated earlier
in Deuteronomy, that Moses was commanded to uproot the Canaanites?
ls Jesus fulfilling the law of Moses? The message then is not that of love
but of fanaticism and hatred, and despises, assured by what Jesus said:
"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth; I came not to send
peace, but a sword. (Mathew 10:34)
99
The spirit of arrogance and haughtiness is clear in the way Jesus spoke,
according to the Gospel, to that woman of Canaanite and he did not have
mercy on her until she was humiliated and said: yet the dogs eat of the
crumbs which fall from their masters’ table. It is the spirit that they
spread in their Holy Scripture to consider those who are not Jews as
dogs.(1) This is what we find common between the Torah and the Gospel
as if the writer was the same.
__________________________________________________________
1. We acquit the Messenger of Allah Jesus from saying "It is not fair to take the children's
bread and to cast it to dogs"
100
Conclusion
In it:
Allah is the Sustainer of the Universe, not the Lord of Israel.
All the people are the creation of Allah, His servants. His mercy
embraced them all, His guidance though Prophets was for them all.
All the people are equal; they can be proficient with their piety and good
deeds.
Man is the vicegerent of Allah in the earth, constructing therein with
Truth, Justice, Virtue and righteousness.
This world is a small enjoyment; the Hereafter is everlasting and the
world of settlement.
All the prophets are the messengers of Allah, it does make any distinction
between them, and confirms all the books revealed, and all the prophets
send. It Judges with ultimate Truth between all the creatures.
"Be persistently standing firm in Justice as witnesses for Allah even if it
be against yourselves or parents and relatives". (4:135).
"Indeed Allah orders justice, good conduct and giving to relatives, and He
forbids immorality, bad conduct and oppression". (16:90)
So goes on these black pages of incest, immoral acts that the British
General Assembly Members in 1968 asked to ban teaching the Holy
Scripture for school students, as it spoils the morals and encourages
crime, violence and wickedness and social disaster.
"Which of the tow parties has more right to security, if you should
know?"
"They who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice are those
who have security and they are rightly guided"
We hope that the reader can now see which of these Scriptures is
preserved intact and leads to the straight path of success in this life and
eternal bliss in the Hereafter.
Peace be upon the Messengers and All praise be to Allah, the Sustainer of
the Universe.
