Chapter 1 Overview

RC954 series products are E1 protocol converters with inverse multiplexer function. They are designed to
be applied to RC002 chassis of Raisecom. RC954 series products are equipped with 1 or 2 user Ethernet
interfaces and 4 or 8 E1 interfaces. They are mainly used to transmit or receive Ethernet operations with
band width range from 2Mbps to 16Mbps.

¾ Operate properly

5.2 Installation process

5.2.1 Setup dip switch
Setup dip switch according to user need and the definition of dip switch in chapter 3. Plug the device into
RC002 chassis.

Note: The setting of Master/Slave management mode and E1 channel startup will be obedient to the status
of the corresponding dip switch when the device is being electrified. Any operation to these two dip
switches is invalid afterward. Other dip switches are valid for operating after electrifying.

5.2.2 Connect service Ethernet interface

For device with Ethernet electrical interface, connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet interface
of this device, and connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to router or Ethernet switch.

For device with Ethernet optical interface, connect one end of the fiber to the Ethernet optical interface, and
connect the other end of the fiber to router or Ethernet switch.

5.2.3 Connect E1 cable

For device with unbalanced E1 interface, use the DB37 connector on E1 cable to connect to E1 interface on
local device, and use BNC connector to connect to transmission devices or congener devices.

For device with balanced E1 interface, apply cable with two RJ-45 connectors and two E1 link to connect.

5.2.4 Electrify
After turn on the power, the PWR indicator should be on. At the same time, please check the Ethernet
interface indicator and E1 interface indicator, they should be working in order. (For the meanings of the
indicators, please refer to the indicator definition in chapter 3)

5.2.5 Configure services

If RC954 is used as master management device, user PC can be connected to the management module in
RC002 chassis to manage RC954 and remote devices. For detailed configuration operation, please refer to
24
relevant command line notebook and network management manual.

Chapter 6 Troubleshooting

For some problems you may meet during installation and operation, please try to solve them following the
suggestions below. For the problems can not be solved using the following suggestions, please contact with
distributors for technical support.

¾ PWR indicator wouldn’t turn on after power supply has been connected.
Firstly, please check whether the device has been plugged in properly.
Then, please make sure that power supply of the chassis is working properly.

¾ LOS alarm occurs at E1 interface

LOS alarm indicates lost of receiving signals
Firstly, please check whether the E1 cable has been connected properly.
If alarm occurs when the E1 cable has been connected correctly, please replace the cable and check
whether the device on the other side is operating properly.

¾ Ethernet interface LINK indicator wouldn’t turn on

Firstly, please check whether the cable is broken down.
Secondly, please check whether the network device connected to the Ethernet interface is working
properly.
Please make sure that the cable is correctly made.

Appendix B RJ45 Connector – E1 Cable Pin Definition

Using E1 balanced data cable Pin 1 Pin 8

For E1 120Ω balanced interface, pin definition is shown in the table below:

RJ-45 线序 definition with A, B channel identifier

Pin 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

Using 120Ω balanced interface to connect to other device, please be clear of the pin definition of the device. For twisted
pair, the connecting rule of pins on the two ends is shown in the figure below:

Please note that when connecting twisted pairs, please connect the two from TD+ and TD- that are twisted together. The
same rule applies to RD+ and RD-.
