The course will be an introduction to communication systems, primarily

answering the question of how to transfer information from one point to
another point. After a brief review of Fourier analysis and random processes,
Course
three fundamental modulation techniques namely amplitude/phase/frequency
Description
modulation, will be covered.Digital Modulation would be covered with
emphasis on sampling and quantization. Baseband and passband digital data
transmission techniques would be discussed.

Upon completion of this course, students will:

• Understand the fundamentals of different modulation schemes and their
Expected
performance in the presence of noise.
Outcomes
• Performance parameters in terms of Bandwidth, Power, Signal to Noise
Ratio and Bit Error Rate should be clear.

REQUIRED:
Modern Digital and Analog Communication Systems by B. P. Lathi andZhi
Textbooks Ding, 4th Edition, Oxford University Press, 2009.
OPTIONAL:
Fundamentals of Communication Systems by John G. Proakis and
MasoudSalehi, Pearson Education 2005.
