O: The shutter release button will not move and I
can't take the picture. Why?
A: The film advance lever may not have been fully
advanced.
O: Why can't I advancethe film?
A: The shutter may be cocked and ready to fire.
Try pressing the shutter releasebutton. Or, all
the available film exposures may have been
taken. Check the exposurecounter. lf you feel
tension on the film advance lever, DO NOT
FORCE lT. Rewindthe film.
O: My camera is loaded with film. Why doesn't the
rewind crank rotate when I advance the film?
A : T h e f i l m l e a d e r m a y n o t b e i n s e r t e di n t h e f i l m
t a k e - u p s p o o l a n d t h e f i l m i s n o t a d v a n c i n g .O r
t h e f i l m i s l o o s e i n t h e c a s s e t t ea n d , a l t h o u g h
a d v a n c i n gp r o p e r l y , t h e r e i s n o t e n o u g h t e n s i o n
to rotate the rewind crank.
O: Why doesn't the rewind crank rotate when I try
to advance the film and why is the field of view
dark and the image obscured?
A: Because the batteries are probably exhausted.
Use the battery check and dial. lf a beeping
sound is not heard and the battery check light
d o e s n o t l i g h t u p , r e p l a c et h e b a t t e r i e s .
O: A shadow appears which darkens a portion of
the central microprism area of the viewfinder.
Why does this happen?
A : T h i s i s a n o p t i c a l e f f e c t a n d i s q u i t e u s u a lw h e n
a lens with .a maximum aperture smaller than

F5 is mounted on the camera or the preview
button is pressed with the diaphragm closed
down beyond F5. There is nothing wrong with
the microprism. Use the matte area of the focus-
ing screen to focus.
O: I pressed the shutter release button with the
s e l e c t o rd i a l a t t h s " O F F " p o s i t i o n . l s t h e f i l m
properly exposed?
A: E v e n a t t h e " O F F " p o s i t i o n , t h e c a m e r a ' sc i r -
cuits will be activated for a proper expo$Ire.
Q: W h i l e I w a s o p e r a t a n gt h e W i n d e r 2 , t h e l i g h i i n
the viewfinder went out... Why?
A: T h e l i g h t g o e s o u t i n 9 0 s e c .e v e n i f t h e s e l e c t o r
dial is in the "AUTO" position, in order to save
the batteries from unnecessary consumption.
T o u c h t h e s h u t t e r r e l e a s eb u t t o n l i g h t l y a n d t h e
light will be reactivated.
O: I forgot to return the selector dial to the "OF F"
position. Does this drain the batteries?
A: No, it doesn't. The camera switches itself off
after 90 sec.even when the dial is set at "AUTO".
Recommended, however, always make sure to
put it to the "oFF" position.
O: lf I return the self-timer switch to its off posi-
tion while the self-timer is in operation, what
will happen to the shutter?
A: The shutter will be released at that moment.
After using the self-timer, make it a point to
return the self-timer switch to its off position.

O: Why is the automatic exposure shutter speed
much longer than indicated by the meter in
the viewfinder?

to rewind the film?
A: The rewind release lever may not have been
rotated in the direction of the arrow.
O: ls infrared photography also possible with the
oM-20?
A : Y e s , i t i s i f y o u s e t t h e s e l e c t o rd i a l t o t h e M A N -
UAL position. Then take the following steps:
@ Focus without a f ilter.@ Move the focusing
ring until the distance reading is opposite the
infrared index mark. Mount your filter for in-
frared photography, and proceed to take the
p i c t ur e .
O: What batteries should I use?
A: Usetwo 1.5V alkaline-manganesebatteries LR44
(476) or two silver oxide batteries SR44 (Ever-
e a d y E P X - 7 6 o r e q u i v a l e n t s ) .B a t t e r i e so f a d i f -
f e r e n t t y p e ( e . 9 . , 1 . 3 V m e r c u r y b a t t e r i e s )c a n -
not be used, though they may be the same size.
O: When should I check the batteries?
A: C When new batteries are inserted.
@ Atter the camera has been stored for a long
time.

O: In extremely cold temperatures the battery
power dropped and the camera failed to operate
properly. ls there any way I can continueshoot-
ing?
A: Remove the batteries from the cameraand warm
them in your hand or by placing them inside
your clothing. Reload the batteries and take
p i c t u r e s w i t h t h e s e l e c t o rd i a l s e t i n t h e " O F F "
position.That will minimize power consumption
a l t h o u g h y o u c a n n o t s e et h e v i e w f i n d e r i n d i c a -
tion lights.
o : How do I adjust the ASA setting?
A : Lift up and rotate the outer collar of the dial
u n t i l i t s t o p s , t h e n r e l e a s et h e c o l l a r a n d m o v e
both the collar and dial until the white line is
aligned with the black index on the pentaprism.
R e p e a t t h i s p r o c e d u r e u n t i l y o u r e a c ht h e A S A
speed you need.
Q: I took pictures with the aperture ring set at a
halfway position between the f/stop numbers.
Was the film properly exposed?
A : Y e s , y o u c a n u s e a n y i n - b e t w e e ns e t t i n g so n t h e
a p e r t u r e r i n g t o o b t a i n p r e c i s ee x p o s u r e .
O: How about in-between settings of the shutter other desiccant in the storage area. Do not store
speed dial in the manual mode? For example, the units near moth balls or similar volatile
betunen "125" and "25O". chemical materials to avoid the possibility of

A: The mirror locked. Set the selector dial to
"AUTO" and the camera will function normal-
ly.
O: How do I clean the camera and lens?
A: Clean the camera using a clean, soft lintless
cotton cloth. Clean the lens only with a hand
powered air blower, antistatic brush or lens

Take care not to permit water to enter the cam-
era when taking pictures in the rain or snow,
especially near seawater spray. After use near
the ocean, wipe the camera surfaces clean and
never leave salt residue on the camera.
O : How do I store the camera?
A : Remove the camera from its case and store it
in a dry, well ventilated place. Protect against

A: Zur Schonung der Batterien schaltet sich der
Strom nach 90 Sekundenab. Drtickt man den
Auslciser leicht an, schaltet er sich fiir weitere
90 Sekundenein.

auf "OFF" zu stellen. Was ist nun mit den
Batterien?
A: Nichts. Der Strom schaltetsich nach 90 Sekun-
den von selbstaus,auch wenn der Schalternoch
auf "AUTO" steht.Empfehlen,jedoch stetsauf

F: Was passiert, wenn ich den Selbstausloserein-
ceschaltet habe, ihn aber noch wlhrend des
Ablaufs zuriickstelle?
A: Der Verschlu8 wird sofort ausgeltist.Nach der
Benutzung des Selbstausltisers mufi der Hebel
zuriickgestelltwerden, wenn man keine Selbst-
 aufnahmen mehr machen will.
F: Wie kommt es, da$ die Belichtungszeit deutlich
lflnger ist als der im Sucher tngezeigte Wert?
A: Das passiert dann, wenn sich kein Film in der
Kamera befindet. Der Sensor liest dann statt
der hellen Filmschicht die schwarze Andruck-
platte und kommt deshalb zu ldngeren Zeiten.
Legen Sie ein Stiick unentwickelten Film in
die Filmbahn, wenn eine korrekte Anzeige
erfolgen soll, ohne daf} eine Aufnahme gemacht
wird.
F: Warum la$t sich denn die Riickspulkurbel nicht
drehen, wenn ich den Film zurtickspulen will?
A: Der Riickspul-Freilaufschalter ist nicht in Pfeilrich-
tung gedreht worden.
F: Lassen sich mit der OM-20 auch Aufnahmen auf
Infrarotfilm machen?
A: Selbstverstiindlich. Stellen Sie den Betriebsar-
tenschalter auf "MANUAL" und gehen Sie wie

Hauptindex ab und stellen Sie Wert nun am
Infrarot-Index (kleiner roter Strich neben

F: Welche Batterien miissen in der OM-20 benutzt
werden?
A: In jedem Fall zwei 1,5-Volt-Batterien. Entweder
.Alkali-Mangan-Batterien LR 44 bezw, A 76 oder

Silberoxydbatterien SR 44 bezw. EPX76, 1,3-
Volt-Batterien kcinnen nicht benutzt werden,
auch wenn die MaBe passenwiirden. Leider sin<i

F: Wann und wie oft sollen die Batterien gepriift
werden?

A: Nahmen Sie die Batterien aus der Kamera und
wdrmen Sie sie in einer warmen Tasche Ihrer
Kleidung einige Zeit auf . Dann wieder einsetzen
und Betriebsartenschalter auf "OFF" stellen;
So wird Strom gespart, weil die LED-Anzeigen
im Sucher nicht leuchten und keinen Strom
brauchen. Die Belichtungsautomatik funk-
tioniert aber trotzden.
F: Wie kann ich die Filmempfindlichkeit einstellen,
die ich brauche?
A: Wegen der besseren Ubersichtlichkeit lassen
 sich bei der OM-20 nur ASA-Werte einstellen,
die auch auf jeder Filmpackung stehen. Bei der
neuen lSGBezeichnung entspricht der Wert vor
dem Schrdgstrich dem ASA-Wert, die Angabe
hinter dem Strich dem DIN-Wert. Heben Sie
den Kragen um den mit ASA bezeichneten
Drehknopf hoch drehen Sie ihn, bis der erfor-
derliche Wert im Fenster erscheint und lassen
Sie den Kragen los, damit er einrasten kann.
Wenn der gewtinschte Wert nicht mit einer ein-
zigen Drehung erreicht werden kann, drehen Sie
den ganzen Knopf so weit, bis der lange Strich
am schwarzen Index steht. und wiederholen
Sie den Vorgang, bis der gewiinschte Wert
erreicht ist.
F: Kann man Aufnahmen machen. wenn der Blen-
denring auf Zwischenwerte eingesteilt ist?
A: Man kann. Die Automatik nimmt auf den
Zwischenwert Rticksicht und belichtet
entsprechend.
F: Kann man bei manueller Einstellung der Ver-
schlufjzeit Zwischenwerte einstelien. etwa
zwischen "lf 125" und "l/250"?
A: In einem solchen Fall wird der Verschlufi ent-
weder mit 11125 oder mit 11250 Sekunde
belichten. Es ist daher ratsam, einen genauen
Wert einzustellen-

F : Wie soll man Kamera und Objektiv reinigen?
A : Wischen Sie die Kamera mit einem weichen,
mehrfach gewaschenen Baumwolltuch ab. Die
Linsenfldchen des Objektivs nur mit speziellem
Objektiv-Reinigungspapier oder einem hierzu
geeigneten wpichen antistatischem Pinsel reini-
gen. Linsenfldchen niemals mit dem Finger
beriihren oder mit zu hartem Material putzen.
Schiitzen Sie die Kamera vor Wasser in ieder
Form, besonders bei Aufnahmen mit Iiegen
oder Schnee. Salzwasser ist ganz besonders
schddlich. Schiitzen Sie die Kamera in Meeres-
nlhe durch einen sauberen Plastikbeutel auch
gegen Sand.
F : Wie soll man die Kamera lagern?
A : Nehmen Sie die Kamera aus der Tasche heraus
und lagern Sie sie an einem gut beltifteten
trockenen Platz. ln besonders feuchten Gegen-
den sind Silicagel oder andere Prdparate zum
Trockenhalten zu empfehlen. Die N.dhe von
Chemikaliendunst - etwa Mottenkugeln - kann

R: Esto es muy comun si se tiene un objetivo de
una abertura m6xima menor que F5 montado
en la c6mara y el bot6n de vista previa se opri-
me con el diafragma cerrado a una abertura me-
nor que F5. No ocurre nada con los micropris-
mas. Enfoque con la zona mate.
P: Oprimi el bot6n disparador con el cgadrante se-
lector en la posicion "OFF". ;Saldr6la fotogra-
fia conectamente expuesta?
R: lncluso en la posicion "OFF" los circuitos de
Ia cimara se activar6n para lograr una exposi-
ci6n correcta.
P: ;Por qu6 se apag6 la luz en el visor mientras es-
taba operado el Bobinador 2?
R: La luz se apaga al pasar 90 segundos aunque la
palanca selectora est6 en la posici6n "AIJTO"
con el fin de evitar desgaste innecesario de las
pilas. Toque el interruptor de disparador leve-
mente y la hn se encendetd otra vez inmediata-
mente.
P: Me olvid6 de poner el selector en la posici6n
"OFF". lSe agotan las pilas por esta raz6n?
R: No. I-a Cimara se desconecta autom6ticamente
despu6s de 90 segundos, incluso cuando el selec-
tor est6 en la posici6n "AUTO". Sin embalgo,
se recomienda-ponerlo en la posici6n "OFF".

obturador es mucho mayor que la indicada. Si
es necesario obtener una lectura correcta sin
efectivamente tomar una foto, inserte pelicula
que no necesita, pelicula sin exponer en la posi-

P: No gira la manivela de rebobinado cuando tra-
to de rebobinar la pelicula ;Por qu6?
R: La palanca para accionar el rebobinado puede
estar ajustada en forma incorrecta.
P: lEs posible la fotografia infrarroja tambi6n con
la OM-20?
R: Desde luego que si. Basta con hacer lo siguiente
con el seleitoi en la posici6n "MANUAL".
