IN THE NEWS

Walk in memory of Lydia

A SPECIAL walk takes place this month in memory of Lydia Wilson, who died of a rare brain
tumour in 2009, aged just six.
Her family will walk 22 miles from their home in Kelsall to Claire House Children’s Hospice,
on the Wirral and are inviting people to join them.
Parents Dave and Jackie Wilson have raised almost £40,000 for the hospice, who helped
the family at a difficult time.
To take part contact Jackie on 07912207762 or email lydiaslove@hotmail.co.uk.

Lorry concern
TATTENHALL parish councillors are receiving more and more complaints about lorries
going through the village. It is claimed that up to 60 heavy goods vehicles are noisily
travelling through the likes of Gatesheath Lane and Newton Lane, as well as in Tiverton and
Huxley. The parish council has approached Cheshire West and Chester Council to find a
solution but it seems as if sat nav systems are directing lorry drivers through the village.

Church improvements unveiled

ST Peter’s Church, in Duddon, has reopened after a £95,000 revamp which has brought a
new heating system, new audio visual system and the removal of pews to allow the church
building to be used for more community activities.

New lease of life for Storehouse!

THE Storehouse Church has been given permission to carry on at the former Brook Farm
School after agreeing a 12 month extension with Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Life is rosy for Bunbury carers!
We are committed to providing the best possible care for the elderly and children in the
home at the most reasonable price. With the current economic climate making us all having
to tighten our belts somewhat, we realise the cost of these services may prevent some
people from enjoying the benefit of domiciliary care.

Elderly Care – Rosy Rota

We believe there is a huge benefit in having someone caring for you in your own home and
our Rosy Rota service is specifically tailored to each individual, ensuring that your normal
routine is maintained alongside respecting your dignity and privacy. Your Carer is not just
there to help you with any personal care you may require, but also to be your companion
and improve the quality of your life. This system has been working successfully for many
years and even in cases of severe disability, either physical or mental, most of our clients
have been able to remain in their own homes.
Nannies & Mother’s Helps
Finding suitable and cost effective Childcare to fit around a busy schedule is becoming
harder these days. Staff realise that they need to be more flexible and be prepared to take
on more domestic responsibility than in the past. In order to attract the right level of staff,
wages need to be maintained at an attractive level but we appreciate that many of us are
constrained by the cost of using a reputable Nanny Agency.
So, as spring looks as if it is on its way at last, we are delighted to be able to announce
some special offers, which may make life a little easier.

Older People at Leisure

All the hard work by local people is paying
off. A new charitable organisation, Rural
Community Services (RCS) has been
formed to take on the running the day centre
in Tarporley. This is following the public
outcry resulting from Age Concern Cheshire
announcing that they were to close all their
centres.

First of all RCS is looking for more people
to help as volunteers – to drive people to
and from the Club; to help provide the mid-day meal, and to take part in the activities being
run during the day. Helping out once a fortnight or once a month would be ideal. If you
are interested in knowing more and joining in the fun, please contact Parish Councillor Gill
Clough on 01829 733545. Please also contact Gill if you are an older person who would like
to come to the Club.

TARPORLEY HIGH SCHOOL & Sixth Form College
High school ball returns
THE Tarporley High School Ball is being resurrected this year and is scheduled for
Saturday 21st May. All are welcome to attend.
For a number of years the ball took place at Chester Town Hall but this year it is planned
to run a ‘Budget Ball’ which will take place in the school hall. It will be transformed into
a glamorous venue for the event and guests will enjoy a drinks reception, three-course
gourmet meal and live band all for only £20 a ticket.
It is hoped that the ball will raise a considerable amount of money to support the school.
Tickets are available from the school reception at a cost of £20; tables of 10 can also be
reserved if you wish to invite your friends. Please call 01829 732558 for further information.

The Year 7 hockey team were in

action on last month at King’s School,
Chester, where they took part in the
Kings U12 Invitation Tournament.
They finished second in their group
played a further three games beating
Birkenhead 2-0, Queen’s B team 1-0
before losing to Abbey Gate in the final
game. Sophie Clayton made a fantastic
debut in goal, letting only one goal
in for the duration of the tournament.
The team won their pool ultimately
finishing 5th out of 12th overall.

Year 10 raised £1,013 for Cancer Research UK & The Railway Children during their
charity week last year, which included a non-uniform day, cake sales, and a raffle.
Representatives from the charities came into school last month to receive the
cheques. Lorna Robey, Cara Hatton & Henry Heath from the Year 10 Council with Mrs
Mason from The Railway Children & Mrs Aubrey from Cancer Research UK.

health & beauty with Angela Bartlett

Q. I’ve been happily using the same skin care products for years,
but they don’t seem to be delivering the same results as they used
to. Do you have any suggestions?
A. Your skin is constantly changing and you need to adapt your skin
care products to suit the needs of your skin at that particular time.
Your skin can vary from month to month depending on your health
and exposure to environmental changes and certainly from season
to season. The skin care products needed during the autumn and
winter months can vary enormously from those required during the
spring and summer. More information on how you can adapt your
skin skin care routine o cope with seasonal changes are to be found
on the newsletter page at www.angelabartlett.co.uk.
I think you have been lucky to have achieved results
from using the same products for such a long time,
but now spring is here I would advise you to visit your
professional skin care therapist for a good skin analysis
or Face Mapping and get an updated recommendation on
the best products to use for your skin condition.

Former captain returns to the Flacca
TATTENHALL Cricket Club are hoping that an overseas talent and the return of a familiar face
can lead them to Lord’s this year.
They have secured the services of New Zealand all-rounder Tom Hyslop as their overseas

Gardening by Janet Heath

Spring blossom, carpets of flowers

and fresh new leaves herald April.
I love the shrub Amelanchier lamarkii with
white starry flowers in April that contrast well
with the new bronze coloured leaves that turn
green and then red in autumn. For shrubs
with scent, consider Viburnum burkwoodii or
Viburnum carlesii varieties and plant where
you pass by on a regular basis, to appreciate the
wonderful scent. Magnolias are in flower too
and for smaller gardens try Magnolia stellata
varieties or Magnolia Susan which has deep

A TOTAL of 31 members attended the meeting held on March 2nd when the
2006 BBC Gardener of the Year, Sue Beesley, related her love of gardening
and how she left her job in IT to design a garden for the BBC competition
which was followed with an entry in the Tatton Show. In 2007 she and her
husband took over Lodge Lane Nursery and Bluebell Cottage in Dutton, near
Warrington. With the aid of slides she showed us what a huge undertaking
this was and how the changes she and her team have made, make it well
worth a visit when it is open between April and October.
On April 6th Penny Dean’s topic will be ‘Small in a Tall Person’s World’ and May’s meeting will involve
discussion of Resolutions for the AGM which will precede the talk by Katie Mason on ‘Climbing
Kilimanjaro’. The book club continues to meet every 6 weeks whilst some members are enjoying weekly
French conversation. The walking group meet monthly and is currently planning May’s holiday in the
Brecon Beacons.
New members are always welcome to meetings at the Peckforton Village Rooms on the first
Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm.
