A.1. THE PURPOSE OF THE MANUAL
The use and maintenance manual provides information as to how to use your
equipment correctly and to maintain it efficiently.
The use and maintenance manual is an integral part of the equipment and must be
conserved until the same is dismantled.
To be able to work safely and to get the best from your equipment, follow the indications in
this manual, paying special attention to the safety regulations.
The use and maintenance manual is intended for persons concerned with: installation,
maintenance and repair as well as those who will successively operate the equipment. It
should be kept in a protected place, but one always close to the equipment for immediate
consultation.
If the manual is damaged. the user must ask the constructor for a new copy.
BEFORE STARTING ANY WORK, YOU MUST READ THE RELEVANT SECTION IN
THIS USE AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL.
THE GUARANTEE COVERING THE GOOD OPERATION AND FULL PERFORMANCE
SATISFACTION OF THE 650.533 GRAB FOR THE INTENDED USE, STRICTLY
DEPENDS ON CORRECTLY APPLYING ALL THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THIS MANUAL.
Manual updating: When the machine is placed on sale, this manual – an integral part
of the same – reflects the state of the art in construction term and conforms to all the
laws, directives and standards in force at that moment. It cannot be considered to be
inadequate just because of successive updates made on the basis of new
experience.
Changes, updates, etc., possibly made to machines sold at a later date, do not oblige the
constructor to alter previously supplied machines and neither do they constitute a motive
for considering these earlier machines-manuals as deficient or inadequate. Any manual
updates the constructor sends to users must be kept together with the manual, as they are
additions to the same.
Working with Customers: Customers are welcome to ask the constructor for any extra
information, or to suggest improvements to make this manual better suited to the purpose
for which it was prepared.
If the equipment is sold, please report the new owner’s address to the constructor: in this
way, the new user can be reached if any indispensable information and/or updates have to
be communicated.
4
A.2. CIRCUMSTANCES RELIEVING CONSTRUCTOR RESPONSIBILITY
The instructions in this manual do not replace, but rather summarise, the obligations to
respect the legislation in force concerning safety and accident prevention standards.
With reference to this content of this use and maintenance manual, the constructor is
relieved from all responsibility in the following cases:
• Incorrect installations;
Any damage to persons and/or objects caused by interventions and/or modifications to the
equipment not expressly authorised, cannot be charged to the manufacturer in any case.
The GEISMAR declines all responsibility deriving from effects caused by equipment
operation not conforming to this manual.
5
A.3. GUARANTEE TERMS
This equipment was conceived, designed and constructed on the basis of the concepts of

A.5. DESCRIPTION OF THE EQUIPMENT
The meanings of several terms used as follows in the manual are explained below:
• Equipment: grab;
• Machine: a lifting device the grab is fitted to;
• Interface: a device used to couple the grab to the machine arm;
• Teeth: grab blades
• Body: the structure supporting the blades.
On the body, there are two manifolds for conducting the oil via flexible rubber hoses to the
cylinders. In a central position, under the lower plate, there is a hook fitting, whilst a
hydraulic rotor can be fitted to the upper plate to rotate the grab around its longitudinal
axis.
All movements are controlled by hydraulic commands on the machine the grab is fitted to.
7
B. TRANSPORT, FITTING
8
B.1. TRANSPORT INSTRUCTIONS
The 650.533 grab can be transported solidly fixed to a suitably strong pallet, or it can be
directly secured to the vehicle using suitable metal cable slings.
The grab is lifted solely by using a forklift truck under the pallet or by connection to the
upper coupling.
Only qualified transport companies capable of guaranteeing the correct handling of the
transported material must be used. The constructor declines all responsibility if the
customer transports the grab or chooses others to do so for him.
• When lifting and transporting, use means suitable for the mass of the equipment.
• During transport, check that the oil delivery hoses are closed well with plugs to
prevent oil leaks.
9
B.2. FITTING INSTRUCTIONS
Below, we indicate the main fitting instructions; in any event, we advise contacting the
GEISMAR Technical Office.
• When the material arrives, check that it has not been damaged in transport. If any
damage is found, report this immediately to the forwarding agent or contact the
constructor;
• The machine’s hydraulic system must be capable of supplying the grab, and if present
the hydraulic orientation system. If this is not the case, any modification to the
equipment must be exclusively performed by personnel authorised by the machine
constructor.
• Move onto flat ground, checked to be solid: rest the grab on the ground in a stable
position, bring the machine arm into position above the equipment and align the
interface hole with that of the machine; insert the pin and secure it;
• Check that the supply pressure is lower than the maximum pressure we indicate; if the
machine pressure is too high, fit a pressure restriction valve with a crossed discharge;
• Connect the machine’s oil delivery hoses to those of the grab and check that the
movements of the equipment are coherent with the commands given.
• Check that the interface permits the equipment to oscillate in parallel and
perpendicularly with respect to the machine arm.
10
B.3. INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISPOSING OF MATERIALS
By refuse, we mean any substance or object deriving from human activity or natural
cycles, abandoned or destined to be abandoned, causing pollution risks to the air, water,
ground or subsurface.
In view of their nature and amount, refuse from industrial processes cannot be declared to
be similar to urban refuse: these may be materials deriving from machine demolition, toxic
and noxious materials. Producers of industrial refuse must dispose of the same through
businesses and bodies authorised by Regional Authorities or by consigning it to public
service organisations with which special agreements have been made.

16
D.1. GENERAL SAFETY STANDARDS
1. Remaining within the working radius of the machine and equipment is absolutely
forbidden;
2. Using the equipment before fencing off access to the work area is absolutely
forbidden;
3. All the safety standards applicable for the machine are also valid for the equipment; in
the cases of differences, adopt the most restrictive standards;
4. All work on the equipment must be performed with the machine motor switched off and
the arm blocked;
5. Pay maximum attention when close to the equipment; dangers of being cut, hit or
crushed exist;
6. The declared conformity of the equipment to the Machine Directive, is only valid if the
machine to which it is fitted conforms to this directive;
7. The safety of the equipment depends on the efficiency of the safety system of the
machine to which it is fitted;
9. The operator must be an expert and be well-instructed about the working limits of
both the equipment and the machine;
10. Before starting work, visually check the condition of the equipment. It must always be in
excellent condition;
17
D.2 USE INSTRUCTIONS
THINGS TO DO ALWAYS !: Correctly using the 650.533 grab means fully exploiting its
performance, in complete safety. This performance is only guaranteed by strictly observing
the standards in paragraph D.1 and the indications shown below. Therefore:
1. ALWAYS follow the indications and instructions in the use and maintenance
manuals and check that the equipment components and elements are not
impaired;
5. ALWAYS switch off the machine to which the equipment is fitted. Rest the
grab on a suitably solid, flat surface, before performing any ordinary and/or
extraordinary maintenance work;

650.221 grabs are designed and constructed to require normal spare parts consequent on
wear or breakage, if used correctly and suitably maintained, as described in this manual.
Apart from invalidating the guarantee, using non-original spare parts can compromise
good grab operation.
The Manufacturers decline all responsibility for any errors resulting from the non
observance of these instructions.
