A Brief Background
Fortis Healthcare Limited, the fastest growing and India's
second largest healthcare provider was incorporated in 1996.
The company was founded by the visionary business leader,
Late Dr. Parvinder Singh, the architect of Ranbaxy
Laboratories.

capacity to increase inpatient beds to ~6600 beds. These

quaternary healthcare to patients across specialties such as
cardiac care, orthopedics, neurosciences, oncology, renal

which are run in a public private partnership framework.
Recently, Fortis created history in the Indian Healthcare
Sector by acquiring 10 hospitals from Wockhardt, including

The previous biggest deal in the Indian Healthcare Sector was
the acquisition of the five Escorts Heart Institute & Research

foray. Jointly with its Mauritius based local partner, the

To standardize non-clinical processes which impact patient

Fortis has a standardized operating system called FOS (Fortis
Operating System). This ensures that patients experience

currently in Osnabruck University, Germany. They will visit
various hospitals in and around the capital & also study the
German healthcare system at Osnabruck University.
Disability awareness camp
The students of MBA( Healthcare Management) of Chitkara
School of Health Sciences; Chitkara University organized a “
Disability Awareness Camp” in Sector 25, Dainik Bhaskar
colony on 29th August 2010 from 11:00 A.M to 1:00 P.M. The
camp was organized on behalf of Prayaas - Rehabilitation
centre for handicapped children which is under Indian
Council for Child Welfare, U.T. Branch, Chandigarh with a
vision to spread awareness about various forms of mental
and physical disabilities .The camp forms an integral part of
project being done by MBA (HM) students for Prayaas. With
this camp they are aiming at promoting the brand “Prayaas”
in addition to spreading awareness.
One day prior to the event, extensive promotion was done by
the students themselves in the slum area. Their exuberance
can be seen by the fact that they themselves went door to
Chitkara’s MBA study to at Osnabruck University, Germany
door for promotion. On the day of the event, Mr Verma
(Social welfare officer) , Dr.Shivali (Physiotherapist) and a
student educator from Prayaas joined the students in their
noble endeavour. The response rate was good which can be
well judged by the fact that around 50 patients all under the
age of 16 concerned with disability turned up for the event
and were provided with the best assistance. Out of them,
around 30 turned up at Prayaas the very next day for their
treatment. For the coming week some of them were also
given appointments of P.G.I Doctors visiting Prayaas. Among
the patients include patients with orthopedic problems,
speech and hearing problems and mentally retarded
patients. On analyzing it was found that the prevalence of
orthopaedic patients was maximum amounting to
approximately 10 patients in the area which could be a cause
of concern.
During the event also the students were making people
aware about various disabilities and the preventive measures
that should be taken. Every patient coming in was given a free
biscuit packet and sweets with the help of funds generated by
students themselves. The event was organized well and the
students of CSHCS are now looking forward to more such
camps for they realize their responsibility towards
community as a whole.

of all the industries were discussed briefly. The range of

1.A Cricket Match Between Chitkara XI and
Fortis XI
An exhilarating rendezvous took place between Fortis
Healthcare,Mohali and Chitkara School of Health
Sciences,Chitkara University,in the form of a cricket match.
The match took place on 29th Nov,2009 at the ground of
Govt Model School,Sec 26.The Fortis team won the match
by 7 runs, their score being 126-all out in 18.5 overs as
compared to the Chitkara team who scored 120/9 in 20
overs.The Chitkara students lost the game but won the
hearts of the Fortis cricket team as well as the audience .It
was the first interaction of this kind between the two
organizations who are pioneers in their respective fields
and its success was certainly a win of the teamspirit
displayed by the players of both the teams.
2.Free Health checkup Camp organized by
Chitkara School of Health Sciences in
collaboration with Fortis Healthcare,Mohali
The MBA Healthcare students of Chitkara School of Health
Sciences,Chitkara University, organized a Free Health
Checkup Camp at Vineet School(run by YTTS) ,Sec 25 for the
Chitkara-Fortis 20-20 cricket match
slum dwellers of the area with the help of Fortis Mohali Team
on 30th Nov,09.The fortis team comprised of four
Doctors,two nurses,one lab technician and one support staff.
More than 200 patients including the school children availed
the services of the camp. Along with the free check up, all the
patients were also provided with two day’s free medicines
arranged by the Chitkara MBA Healthcare students. A day
before the camp the CSHCS students visited the target area
to sensitize the people and create awareness about health
related issues. The activities at the camp also comprised of
the counselling the patients regarding diseases like swine flu,
diarrohea, AIDS etc done by the Chitkara MBA Healthcare
students.
By organising such an event successfully, the students of
CSHCS have displayed a beautiful combination of empathy,
social responsibility and leadership-keeping up with the
Chitkara Tradition.
3.The Walk on AIDS Awareness
On 1st Dec- World AIDS Day, MBA Healthcare students of
Chitkara School of Health Sciences, Chitkara University,
joined hundreds of others in the Walk against AIDS organised
by Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society that started from
the Civil Dispensary, Sector-45, Chandigarh. The Event was
presided over by the Home Secretary Mr. Ram Niwas. By

4. JALSA Festival, Organised by Dainik Bhaskar

Students of Chitkara School of Health Sciences participated
actively in organizing the Festival organized by Dainik
Bhaskar. Students were involved in every aspect of organizing
– planning, managing and controlling.

5. EVAM Play
Students of Chitkara School of Health Sciences were involved
in organising a Play for a South based Theatre Group named
EVAM. The students were responsible for everything related
to the play from marketing, selling of tickets and on-site
management. The show proved to be an out and out success.

6. Others
Chitkara School of Health Sciences is very secular in its
approach. It has made a point to celebrate every festival with
full enthusiasm and fervour. The festivals are celebrated in a
very traditional style. Various contests and activities are
organized keeping in view the theme of the festival. All the
barriers are overcome in celebrating these festivals, and all
the students come together in organising and celebrating

Eligibility
1) The candidate should have completed the Bachelor's
Degree with minimum of 50 % aggregate marks in any
stream from a recognized university.
2) The candidate appearing in the final year examination can
apply but the candidate must have secured minimum
50% (aggregate) marks till the previous year
examination. However they must submit their graduation
completion certificates till September 30, 2011 failing
which they shall be de-registered.
3) The candidate having compartment in any subject will
not be considered.
4) Having work experience is not a requirement for
admission to the program. However candidates with
work experience are welcome.
Selection Process
Admissions to the MBA program in Healthcare Management
at Chitkara University will be based only on the merit ranking
in CAT/XAT/MAT, Group Discussions & Personal Interview.
Student Counseling
The GD / PI will be conducted as communicated. All
candidates are advised to go through counseling
instructions/ admission instructions very carefully. These
shall be clearly mentioned in the counseling /admission
letters. Ignorance of laid down instruction shall be the
