What to do about the Suppression of Academic Freedom

Sadly, suppression of academic freedom is an issue taken up primarily by moderate liberals. I fear an inadequate
response. In the event that further FOIA requests are sent to labor historians and scholars, I recommend legal,
nonviolent direct action targeted at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy and their campus front groups Students for
Liberty and Students for a Free Economy. Repeated contact of their staff and executives, demonstrations at their
location here - http://tinyurl.com/mackinacaddy -, student protests at EVERY Students for Liberty and Students for a
Free Economy office and sponsored event, and an organized e-protest targeting their main site, blog, facebook page,
and those of associated groups (pm me for a list) would be a starting point. Awareness-raising is, in this case, simply
not enough. The goal must be shutdown. The method must be this: do actions until their day-to-day operations are
rendered impossible.

However, because the right-wing pays little attention to any tactics less odious than their own, I also recommend
retaliation in kind (although I cannot personally participate as FOIAs are too expensive for citizens like myself). If any of
the more well-funded groups would like to issue retaliatory FOIA requests, have someone pm me for an extensive list of
targets. The primary target would be Richard Vedder at Ohio University who is part of the command structure of ALEC.
http://www.ohio.edu/economics/vedder.html The entire University of Virginia law department, professor Eugene Volokh
at UCLA, and each of the 40 libertarian think-tanks sponsored and housed at George Mason University would be good
secondary targets. The tactics would be different from the current right-wing operation and more along the lines of
their climategate operation - simply issue FOIAs until these people can no longer do anything but teach classes and
respond to FOIAs. publish any controversial information and present it in the form of a scandal.

Notes on the Syndicate

Even more sadly, defeating this particular initiative can only be a rearguard, defensive action if it is not combined with
a robust strike back against the individuals responsible. The funders and propagandists of this group must be brought
to justice. The silver lining in the cloud that is the unprecedented assault on our beloved nation is that we are finally
figuring out exactly who is responsible for most of our nation's social ills. The truth is simple - almost all Americans are
decent, kind, hardworking people. Public sector workers, private sector workers, union, non-union or unemployed, all
races, colors, creeds, levels of ability, gender identifications, religious faiths, spiritual stances and philosophical beliefs
that Americans deeply and genuinely identify with have something vital and valuable to offer our society. What's more,
almost all of us know this on a fundamental level. We reject the rhetoric of division that seems to come at us from
everywhere and nowhere at once. None of us trust oversized, diffuse organizations that seem to wield endless
impersonal power. The one thing we have been missing is the true name of the demon. It isn't 'corporations'
'government' 'the system' or 'the man' that is doing this to us. It is an organized crime syndicate made up of real
individuals who we can take real action against and eventually remove from society for the purpose of correction and
rehabilitation.

The following is a list of individuals that, in my opinion, have command responsibility for the assault on American
democracy. In order to finally and completely triumph and restore our democracy, a comprehensive account of their
wrongdoings must be published, a personal dossier compiled on each, and, in the end, arrests and trials under the
Smith Act (rarely used, I know, but perhaps more appropriate because of how close they really have come to success)
and RICO must be carried out. I welcome any and all reccomendations for individuals to be added or removed and any
information about additional crimes they may have committed. For this particular list, I am ommitting the paid
politicians whose puppet strings these people pull. While obviously criminals themselves, they are easy to find, and
can in most cases be rehabilitated through political exile rather than through corrections. I have attempted to divide
the individuals into loose groupings based on their primary affiliations. This will be offered piece by piece and
eventually published in full.

A possible solution for our nation's ills

In my opinion, there are approximately 10,000 people worldwide heavily involved in the conspiracy. A rough estimate
would be 1 - 2,000 of them are American. While this makes the Austerity Mob one of the larger organized crime
syndicates (and certainly the best funded), it is nowhere near impossible to break through standard investigative
tactics. Once the investigation begins in earnest, I expect many of them to turn states' evidence. All in all, it is likely
that less than 100 individuals will need to be prosecuted. While retributive justice and their own twisted ideology would
demand nothing less than the death penalty for these individuals, I do not advocate this. Rather, I wish to see even the
sickest and most deranged of the lot, the Koch Brothers themselves, separated from society and placed in a nurturing
and rehabilitation-minded corrections environment and provided with the best mental healthcare program our collective
labor-power can provide with eventual reintegration into civil society as a goal.

Initiating and carrying out this investigation will go further to restore our safety, freedom, prosperity and opportunity for
growth as a nation than all of the RICO prosecutions and political corruption probes to date combined. Even those
citizens who share the ideology of the syndicate will find themselves with more of a voice in the political process when
liberated from the stifling atmosphere of message disicpline, cynicism and political nihilism that it demands of its foot
soldiers. Furthermore, seizing the ill-gotten assets of these individuals would solve the budget crisis they manufactured
in one fell swoop, freeing up the public sphere for debate on the truly pressing issues of our time.

Citizens of the United States of America, the time is NOW! Recall efforts against politicians, pressure through direct
action, and even strike actions and work stoppage are inherently limited by their reactive nature. If our toolkit for
patriotic action is limited in this way we will always be victims, albeit resistant ones. The criminal investigation,
prosecution, asset seizure and correctional rehabilitation of the leaders of the Syndicate offers us another, better option
- to go on the offensive and take our country back directly. I ask all patriotic women and men to join together with me
to call for a thourogh, independently monitored investigation into violations of the Smith Act and the RICO statues on
the part of the above-named individuals and their accomplices and to take all necessary measures to see that our will is
done. We do not serve the government, the government serves us! If this truly is still America, and our elected and
duly appointed public servants are truly up to the task of carrying out their oaths of office, our mission cannot fail!
