• A Large % of crimes are crimes of opportunity:


– A door left open invites an
intruder.

– A dangling handbag invites a purse-


snatcher

– Keep doors locked all the time.
– Never let a stranger
inside your house,
be it a man, woman or
a child.

– Make sure all doors are locked, windows are
closed.
– Don’t hide keys under mat, flower bed or any
place around the house

• MUGGING/SNATCHING
– Beware of purse snatchers;
your bag tucked under your arm
or in front rather than behind.
– Don’t expose your valuables as golden
necklace, mobiles.

• PICK POCKETS
– Their shopping areas are crowded places
such as markets, races, stadium..
– Avoid keeping your purse in your back
pocket.

• OLD AGE PENSION
– Old citizens are often victims
of fraudulent schemes.

– Bewary of con artists and get


rich schemes that seemed too
good to be true.

• BACK HOME
– If you suspect your home has been broken
into, don’t go in or call out. Call the police
immediately from a neighbour’s house.

• Promote good relationships among


neighbours.

• Keep contact with group leaders, social


welfare officers and police officers
• Received feedback from the above
• If needed, come back again

WHAT RESULTS HAVE BEEN ACHIEVED?

• From feedback, we can say that there


is some light at the end of the tunnel.
• People have started developing a crime
prevention culture.

• We have been congratulated by the
Minister of Gender Equality and the
Commision of Police and are
encouraged to continue.

• Replication should not be a threat


• Should be taken positively
• The more crime prevention campaign
the better, but training is essential.
