a) Explain how the characteristics of rural buyers influence the purchase of products
assigned to you.

b) Study the purchase process with respect to assigned product.

Statistical information collection: 5

Product: Inverters and UPS

 Characteristics of Rural Buyers and its influence.

1. More Prospective-upsurge of employment growth: increases the purchase

power.

2. Size-account for about 70% of total Indian Population: huge untapped market
size.

3. Nature-Precarious income/literacy levels, Superstitious: can be enlightened

about the products.

4. Response to products-utility, durability and value, suitability

5. Response to Price-Price sensitive, credit facility

6. Response to promotion-local promotions, personal selling

7. Response to distribution-known retailers, familiar salesman

8. Predictability-unstable pattern of income level

9. Role of Government

10. Rigidity-illiterate,orthodox

11. High level of Heterogeneity-rich & poor

An inverter is an electrical device that converts direct current (DC) to alternating

current (AC); the converted AC can be at any required voltage and frequency with the use of
appropriate transformers, switching, and control circuits.

An uninterruptible power supply, also uninterruptible power

source, UPS or battery/flywheel backup, is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency
power to a load when the input power source, typically the utility mains, fails. A UPS differs
from an auxiliary or emergency power system or standby generator in that it will provide
instantaneous or near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions by means of
one or more attached batteries and associated electronic circuitry for low power users, and or
by means of diesel generators and flywheels for high power users. The on-battery runtime of
most uninterruptible power sources is relatively short—5–15 minutes being typical for
smaller units—but sufficient to allow time to bring an auxiliary power source on line, or to
properly shut down the protected equipment.

What is the difference between an inverter and a UPS?

Well some think that these two are competing concepts, however the bottom line is that
an ‘inverter’ is an equipment to convert Direct Current (D.C.) into Alternating Current (A.C.)
where as an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) is a circuitry which allows an instantaneous
switch to the backup power source in case of a power failure thereby ensuring an
uninterrupted power supply to sensitive equipments like a computer.
