A. Zur Übung. Schreiben Sie die Komparativformen und die Superlativformen von den folgenden Adjektiven, und auch die englischen Bedeutungen.
C. Gegenteile. Wählen Sie das richtige Adjektiv, und setzen Sie es in den Komparativ. Achten Sie auf die Adjektivendungen!
D. Superlativformen im Prädikat. Ergänzen Sie die Sätze mit den Superlativformen. (Because these are all predicate adjectives and adverbs, you must use the am + ___-
sten forms).
E. Vergleiche. Schreiben Sie Sätze, um die folgenden Sachen zu vergleichen (=compare). Benutzen Sie den Komparativ ODER den Superlativ.
F. Schwierig! The following are somewhat harder sentences to translate, because there are few exceptions or unique ways of doing things. We probably
wouldn’t put any of these on a quiz, but see how well you can translate them! Hints (explanations of what’s hard about these) appear below.
1. Remember that “als” does not change the case of the noun following it (“als” is a conjunction, not a preposition). “Me” should really be “I”, as in the proper complete
English sentence: You’re a better student than I am.
2. Like sentence one, “als” will not change the case of “you”. Also, “mehr” never adds adjective endings.
3. Like sentences 1 & 2, “als” is not changing the case of “you” here, but what case is “you” in the sentence “I know you”?
4. “Most” is a superlative form. Remember that in German superlatives either have a definite article before them (der/die/das), or occur in the “am ---sten” form. They
have no standalone forms.
5. Remember that “most interesting” is merely the superlative form of “interesting.”
6. This is just like it sounds. What is “less”? Well, it’s the comparative form of “few”.
7. What is the phrase for “to be fun”? Hint: it’s NOT Spaß sein, it’s Spaß (x) .
8. Just to show you how ridiculous German adjective endings can get when used with comparatives. “Clean” = sauber, “cleaner” = sauberer, and add the correct ending for
ein sauberer____ Junge.
9. Like sentences 1-3 above, “als” does not change the case of “you” here, but what case is “you” in the sentence “Mom gave you money”?
