Taking control
of your finances
NORTH AMERICAN PRECIS SYNDICATE
Successful money management requires the ability
to view finances from several perspectives, involving
short-, medium- and long-term goals. To help you fur-
ther enhance your money management skills, here are
some tips:
n Have a basic financial plan: Your basic financial
plan should detail your family’s financial goals and the
time frames in which you’d like to accomplish them
— whether that means paying for a child’s education,
buying your first home or retiring at the age you’d like.
Estimate how much money you’ll ultimately need for
each goal (including how long you’ll need the money
to last), then break down how much that means you’ll
need to save or invest each month.
n Analyze your cash flow: Before you can create
a budget, or spending plan, for the future, you need
to evaluate how you’re living now by analyzing your
cash flow — the money coming in and the payments
going out. Positive cash flow means that your annual
expenses are less than your income. For example, if
your salary is $50,000 and you spend $45,000 over
the course of the year, you have a positive cash flow
of $5,000. On the other hand, if you make $50,000
and spend $55,000, you have a negative cash flow of
$5,000. With a negative cash flow, you can’t save for
the future or pay down any debt you may have. The
longer your cash flow is negative, the larger the prob-
lem grows.
n Create a budget: Start by analyzing your spend-
ing. Recording every purchase you make may make it
easier to keep track of where your money is spent each
month. According to the financial experts at HSBC,
once you understand your spending patterns, you’ll
be better equipped to alter them so that you’re on
track for meeting your future financial goals. You may n Use financial filters and spending ratios: Try tio to identify how much of your total income is going
find, for example, that you could save more by mak- running your expenses through two filters. The first toward a particular expense. For example, if your in-
ing coffee at home instead of buying a cup on the way separates fixed from variable expenses while the sec- come is $60,000 and you spent $20,000 on housing
to work. “Creating and sticking to a budget is an im- ond separates essential from discretionary expenses, last year, divide what you spend on housing by your
portant step in gaining control of your finances,” said or needs from wants. Variable expenses and wants are income to find the spending ratio. In this example, it

The Tri County Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team beat Morley Stanwood to
win the district title on March 11. The last district title for the boys’ basketball
team was won 24 years ago in 1987.
“Our kids played very hard and represented our school and community
well. We had a great following and crowd support throughout the season,”
said head coach Tim Kisner. The team won eight in a row to finish the season
before getting beat by Muskegon Heights in the regional game on March 14.
They finished 17 and 7 for the season and will have 11 seniors graduating.
“Six of the kids have been four-year players in the basketball program. These
kids have put a lot of time and effort in the spring, summer, and fall to improve
their skills,” said Coach Kisner.
In addition to the district title, the team will be awarded an academic all-
state honorable mention for their work in the classroom.

Energy Medicine — The Science of Hands-On Healing
Imagine the scene. It is a remote central Brazilian village in 2009. There is a line of people in front of a house, where Advertising Director - Sharon Frederick
a man has his hands on another man’s head. After a few minutes the “patient” stands up, shakes his head a little, smiles,
thanks the man, and leaves. I watched in amazement as the healer continued to work on people with all sorts of maladies.
He cut out a small cyst with a pocket knife, very little bleeding, no infection the next day and almost complete healing in Office Coordinator - Traci Pauhl
less than 24 hours. He placed one hand on the abdomen of a child with colic. The other he put on the child’s back. He
closed his eye, bowed his head, and vibrated his hands slightly. The crying stopped immediately. The man told us, through Account Reps -
an interpreter, “that God provided the power; he just told it where to go”. The man called “John of God” was recently
featured on Oprah. Becky Doyle, and Millianne Lewis
This seemed miraculous, but there is an explanation that makes sense.
The Menninger Foundation had studied this man. They found that he had a zone around his hands, extending about
14 inches, which could sterilize bacteria, viruses and fungus that had been growing in petri dishes. How is this possible? DEADLINES:
The theory is that we have electro-magnetic fields around our body, especially around our hands. These fields have been
photographed using Kirlian Photograph techniques. We all have this. The Mexican healer had either been born with a News & Editorial - Tuesdays at Noon
stronger than average flow of energy into his hands or he had learned to strengthen it as he used this energy to do his
healing work. Area Happenings, Here’s My Card,
But we all have this to one degree on another. Many people are being trained to increase and use this energy. Reiki
energy healing was created in Japan thousands of years ago. AmaDeus energy healing comes from South America and is Business/Church Directories - Wed. at Noon
also thousands of years old. Jesus healed with his hands and many Christians have used “laying on of hands” for healing.
Quantum Healing, Touch for Health, and Therapeutic Massage are more modern systems that are effective energy healing Classified & Display Advertising -
methods.
The energy around our body is in seven layers. One layer is from the energy of all the sub-atomic Thursdays at Noon
particles, one from the atoms, from the molecules, from the cells, from the tissues, from the organs,
and finally from the organism as a whole. When we meet someone, we often feel an attraction or
repulsion. We are feeling the energy fields around that person. The field can be a few inches thick
or as large as 50 feet around a person. When one is ill, changes in the fields can be detected. Energy THE

PIONEER
healing uses the energy field of one person to correct the defects in the field of the ill person.
This is what the Brazilian Healer did and what anyone trained in these other techniques can
do. The energy can only be transmitted, however, if the recipient is willing. We all have free will to

GROUP
accept or reject the effects of the energy of another person.
We can learn to use this energy to improve our health and that of our families. We suggest you
explore these methods for yourself.
