This machine can be connected to the following computers.

This machine can be used in local mode via a parallel printer cable, as well as on a client-server
network via Windows NT 4.0 Server, Windows 2000 Server, or NetWare server, and on a peer-
to-peer network via TCP/IP or IPX/SPX.

Using the printer when connected by parallel cable to a computer running Windows 95/98/Me/
NT/2000/XP.

Install the Install the appropriate Printer Driver for the Operating System used.

SUPPLEMENT:
This machine can be used as a printer on a client-server network with Windows NT/2000
server or NetWare server, or on a peer-to-peer TCP/IP and IPX/SPX network. Also this
machine can be used as a printer with Macintosh when it connects to the network. Using
this machine as a network printer requires an optional network interface card. Refer to
“OPERATOR’S MANUAL FOR PRINTER FUNCTION - Network Setup” for further details.

The printer software installation includes the printer drivers and the TOSHIBA Status Display.

Features of Each Printer Driver

Several printer drivers are available for this machine. Please select the appropriate driver when
printing to achieve optimal output.
PCL 6 : The PCL 6 driver is recommended for printing graphics.
PS : PS driver is compatible with a PostScript Level 2 printer. It is recommended for
printing at high resolution from ProstScript-capable applications and printing a
document with EPS images.

SUPPLEMENT:
Several printer drivers may be installed on one computer.

Features of the TOSHIBA Status Display

The TOSHIBA Status Display can monitor the printer status, whenever certain events occur on
the printer, such as a paper jam, paper out, and so on. The system can report them to users.
Users can also set the printer configuration information through the system.

NOTES:
● The Printer Drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display is provided for each OS. Be certain to
use the right tools for your OS.
● This CD-ROM contains a "README" file which describes precautions to note about the
printer drivers and various applications. Please read it before installing the Printer
Drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display.

This section describes the installation of the printer drivers and the Status Display to Windows
95/98/Me/NT4.0/2000 or XP when your e-STUDIO16/20/25 is connected in local mode. If your
e-STUDIO16/20/25 is connected to a peer-to-peer type network or client server network, see the
“OPERATOR’S MANUAL FOR PRINTER FUNCTION - Network Setup”.

SUPPLEMENTS:
● This manual describes settings for Windows 95. The setting details are similar for
Windows 98, Windows Me, Widnows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP.
● To install the printer driver to Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, or Windows XP, “Full
Control” access rights will be necessary. A log on must be performed as a member of
Administrators or Power Users group. For further details on access rights, see the
Windows manual.

NOTE:
● Before installing the printer drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display, please be sure to exit
all programs.
● When your e-STUDIO16/20/25 is connected in local mode, the Windows Plug-and-Play
function automatically starts the installation of the device driver in some environments.
You can install the printer drivers by following this function as well as through the
Windows Add Printer prompts. However, it is highly recommended that you select
cancel at all prompts and install from the CD-ROM. This will ensure that all printer
drivers and TOSHIBA Status Display components are installed at the same time.

Installing the Printer Driver

1 Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM


drive.
● The menu screen appears.
● If the menu screen is not automatically
displayed, or when the printer drivers and the
TOSHIBA Status Display is installed via the
network, double-click on “TOSHIBA_e-
STUDIO16_20_25.exe” in the Menu folder of the
CD-ROM, that may be found in Windows
Explorer.

2 Click on a language of your Operating


System.

3 Click on [Setup printer driver & utility].

● The Software License Agreement screen
appears. Please be sure to read through the
agreement.

6 Click on [Yes].
● The User Information screen appears.

7 Select the [Group Number], and click
on [Next].
● Group Number:
Set the group number with a value from 1 to 20.

● Emulation:
This designates the type of driver.
Check the emulation to be used. You can install
multiple drivers in one installation.
● Default Paper:
Select the default paper to be used.

9 Click on [Next].
● The Select Local printer or Network printer
screen appears.

10 Select “Local Printer” and click on


[Next].
● If your e-STUDIO16 is connected to a peer -to-
peer type network or client server network, see
“OPERATOR’S MANUAL FOR PRINTER
FUNCTION - Network Setup”.
● The Select the Local Port screen appears.

11 Select the Local Port "LPT1:", and


click on [Next].
● The Printer Name screen appears.

12 Enter the printer name, and click on
[Next].
● The default printer name is automatically
entered. If you do not need to change the
name, click on [Next].
● The Select Components screen appears.

13 Check the components you want to


install.
● Readme:
Install the README.TXT for the TOSHIBA
Status Display.
● Toshiba e-STUDIO16/20/25 Status Display:
Install the TOSHIBA Status Display.

14 Select the drive and path for the


components to be installed.
● [Change Path] button:
The Select Folder screen appears from which a
folder can be selected or created to install the
application into.
● [Disk Space...] button:
The Available Disk Space screen appears from
which a disk drive with sufficient space to install
the application can be selected.

15 Click on [Next].
● If you checked on “Toshiba e-STUDIO16/20/25
Status Display” to be installed, the Status
Display Option screen appears.

16 Decide whether the Status Display is
automatically started.
● If you want the Status Display to be started
automatically when the computer is started,

NOTE:
If you use the TOSHIBA Viewer, please select [No]. The Status Display and the TOSHIBA
Viewer cannot be used at the same time.

● You must restart Windows before using the
printer drivers and software.

your computer.

SUPPLEMENT:
The installed printer driver can be used as a network print queue by setting this printer
driver as a shared printer. This enables local area network clients to print with the e-
STUDIO16/20/25 via the shared printer. For further information about a shared printer,
refer to the Windows manual or on-line help.

Copying the PageMaker PPD File


If you would like to print using the PS printer driver from Adobe PageMaker, you
must copy the PPD file to your Adobe PageMaker program folder.

SUPPLEMENT:
The PPD (PostScript Printer Description) file contains descriptions of printer-specific
functions and information. This file is used to make printer-specific functions available
and to provide optimum printing.

1 Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.

2 Browse the “\English\eSTUDIO\PageMaker” folder in the CD-ROM.

3 Copy the “TSBEST16.PPD” to “\RSRC\ENGLISH\PPD4” folder in the Adobe


PageMaker Program folder.
● The directory of “PPD4” folder in the Adobe PageMaker program folder is usually
“C:\PM65\RSRC\ENGLISH\PPD4”.

Setting the Options Configuration
Before printing with the pritner driver, you have to set the Options Configuration
at the printer driver. The functions of the printer driver for printing vary depeding

option for e-STUDIO20/25 Sereis only.
● Stack Feed Bypass
Selects this when the Bypass Tray is installed.
● Others
Select this when other optional devices are
installed.

5 Click on [OK] to save the settings.

just delete the printer icons from the Printer folder.

Install AGFA Font Manager
The AGFA Font Manager application is used to install, uninstall, preview and categorize fonts on
a computer.

NOTE:
To install the AGFA Font Manager, Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher must be installed on
your computer.

1 Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM


drive.
● The menu screen appears.
● If the menu screen is not automatically
displayed, or when the AGFA Font Manager is
installed via the network, double-click on
“TOSHIBA_e-STUDIO16_20_25.exe” in the
Menu folder of the CD-ROM, that may be found
in Windows Explorer.

2 Click on a language of your Operating


System.

3 Click on the [Setup Font Manager].

4 Click on the [Setup].


●The Choose Setup Language screen appears.

While installation is under way, never take out the CD-ROM. Otherwise, the “AGFA Font
Manager” may not be installed correctly.

10 Click on [OK].

11 Click [Finish].
● If you want to view the Readme file, check on
“Yes, review the Readme file now!”.
● If you want to skip this process, check on
“Simply complete the installation”.
● The installation is completed.

SUPPLEMENT:
When installing the AGFA Font Manager from Windows 95, the message that announces
you to restart your computer is displayed. It is recommended to restart your computer
before using the AGFA Font Manager on Windows 95.

Uninstall AGFA Font Manager
Please make sure that all programs have been shut-down before uninstalling.

● The shortcut to the Uninstall.exe can be found
in the "AGFA Font Manager 2.0" program group
folder, within the "Programs" folder.
● The Confirm File Deletion screen appears.

2 Click on [Yes].
● Start removing programs.

3 Click on [OK].
● Complete the uninstall process.

SUPPLEMENT:
When uninstalling the AGFA Font Manager from Windows 95, the message that
announces you to restart your computer is displayed. It is recommended to restart your
computer after uninstalling the AGFA Font Manager from Windows 95.

It can:
● Install and uninstall fonts in Windows.
● Load new fonts from distribution diskettes.
● Search your local and network drives for fonts.
● Preview the fonts on your computer or network.
● Create font groups for personal or workgroup projects.
● Sort your fonts in a variety of ways, etc.

● Menu AGFA Font Manager conveniently allows you to access basic operations through
menu items. Please see the Help to learn more about them.
● Control Bar AGFA Font Manager has a control bar to allow quick access to basic functions.

● Available Fonts Displays the list of available fonts. It is from this list that you can select fonts to
install in Windows.
● Installed Fonts Displays the group of fonts which are installed and active under Windows.
● Font Groups Create, delete, and modify the font groups. Font grouping allows you to create
custom collections of fonts and give them meaningful names. Font collections can
represent different working scenarios, different users of your computer, or different
styles you want to convey.

NOTE:
For further details and operation of the AGFA Font Manager, press F1 to display the
HELP window.

Install Fonts
● Select one or more fonts to install from the Available Fonts list (the left list box).

You can search for fonts on floppy disks, CD-ROMs, your local drive, or a network drive.

● Select where you want to search for fonts.

Uninstall Fonts
● Select one or more fonts to be uninstalled from the Installed Fonts list.
● Click on [Un-install] button.

The following describes the printing procedure for Windows 95/98/Me/NT4.0/2000/XP
applications and how to cancel a print job. The application “WordPad” is used as an example.

IMPORTANT:
The printing procedure may vary depending on the application. For further details, refer to
the instructions and the HELP menu attached to the application.

1 Open a WordPad document, then


click on [Page Setup...] in the [File]
menu.
● The [Page Setup] screen appears.

2 Click on [Printer...].
● The [Page Setup for Printer] screen appears.

center of paper. The 2 in 1 printing is done by changing the reduction rate according to
the binding margin.
● When Magazine Sort is selected, [Zoom] and [Enlarge/Reduce] is not available.
[Output Paper Size] is the only option for selection.

Relationship with Application Settings


The some applications enable to collate pages (Group) or not to collate page (Sort) when you
print multiple copies of a document. The driver settings, such as Sort Mode and Offset settings,
may not be applied for the printing result according to the “Collate” setting at the “Print” screen of

This sets the time limit for sending a print job from the computer to the printer.
When the set time limit is exceeded, printing is canceled (i.e., Job Timeout).
The Job Time value may be set from 0 to 999 (seconds) in units of 1 second.
If the Job Time is set to 0 (zero), no canceling of print jobs (Job Timeout) will occur.

STARTING TOSHIBA STATUS DISPLAY
The TOSHIBA Status Display will monitor the printer status when certain events occur at the
printer, such as a paper jam, paper out and so on. Users can also set the printer configuration
information through the system.

System Requirements

The TOSHIBA Status Display can be used in the following environment:


●Applicable OS : Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT4.0, Windows 2000,
Windows XP
●Local I/F : IEEE1284 (Compatible mode, ECP)
●BIOS Setting : ECP enabled

NOTES:
● The TOSHIBA Status Display is not available when the printer is connected in a
networked environment.
● The TOSHIBA Status Display is not available when the TOSHIBA Viewer is running on
your PC. If the Status Display is started while the TOSHIBA Viewer is running on the
PC, the alert message will be displayed. Please make sure to exit the TOSHIBA
Viewer.

SUPPLEMENT:
If the TOSHIBA Status Display is not available, ensure that the following details are
satisfied:
● Ensure that the right cable is connected to the printer and your computer. Refer to
“SPECIFICATION AND OTHER INFORMATION - PRINTER CABLE SPECIFICATIONS.”
● The ECP setting in the BIOS of your computer is enabled.

The Status Display will automatically start if [Yes] is clicked to automatically start the Status
Display during installation. If you clicked [No] at the prompt, select the shortcut to the TOSHIBA
Status Display in the TOSHIBA e-STUDIO folder from the Start menu under Programs to start the
TOSHIBA Status Display.

Screen Views

The TOSHIBA Status Display has three different types of the screen views.
●Reduce View
This screen displays the printer status only. To
display this screen, select Reduce on the View
menu. When you first start the TOSHIBA Status

●ExPand View
This screen displays the printer status, how to

●Icon View

Yellow: The printer detects warnings.
Red: The printer detects errors.

If the icon color is either yellow or red, view the TOSHIBA Status Display in ExPand view
to see the printer status and how to recover and solve the problems. Refer to

This configures the printer settings. The settings are only applied when printing is performed
without the printer driver.
Items include page protection, line/page, toner save, I/O time out, auto continue, and smoothing.

➀ Page Protection
This sets the page protection function. A data overrun error may occur during the printing operation when there is a
large amount of data on a page, because the system cannot analyze the data in time while printing. Page protection
reserves additional memory and waits until the page is fully composed before starting the print operation in order to
avoid a data overrun error.
● Auto The printer analyzes each page and turns on page protection automatically only when it is required.
● On The printer always keeps a sufficient memory reserve to ensure that a page can be fully composed.

➁ Print PS Error
Set this to print a PostScript Error Report when an error occurs during printing with the PS driver.
NOTE: It is set to “Off” as a factory default.

PRINTER MODE
This section describes the printer function settings on the Control Panel of e-STUDIO16/20/25.
These functions on the Control Panel are only available when the Print Unit is installed on your
machine.

The following are printer function items that can be performed on the Control Panel.

CANCEL JOB: Cancel a job in progress. This only cancels the jobs in the
process of printing. When a job is being received from the
computer, the printer waits until the job is completely received
before cancelling the job.

CONTINUOUS PRINT: Continue printing when the machine shows a warning status.
When the warning status, “Load XX paper in XX Tray,” is
displayed on the Message Display Panel on the Control Panel,
the machine stops and pauses printing until the paper is loaded
in the tray. Select CONTINUOUS PRINT to force the job to
print. When the DETECT PAPER MISMATCH is set to “OFF”,
the machine always prints the document without displaying the
warning status.

FORM FEED: Enforce to print the job that was not printed for some reasons,
such as the job has no “End of Job” data.

TEST PRINT: Print the Configuration Page, Demo Page, PCL Font List, PS
Font List, Status Log List, NIC Status Page, and Group
Management List.

DETECT PAPER MISMATCH: Set to display a warning status when the paper size of the print
job does not match the paper size in the cassette. When this is
set to “OFF”, the machine does not display the warning status,
“Load XX Paper on XX Tray,” before printing the job.

RESTORE FACTORY DEFAULT: Restore all the printer settings to the factory defaults except the
drum counter.

LETTER HEAD PAPER: Reserve a particular Paper Tray to use when printing. Once
selected, the paper in this tray cannot be used for facsimile
receptions.

MENU LIST: Print the Menu List of the Control Panel on the Printer Mode.

WHEN PRINTING CANNOT BE PERFORMED...
When printing is not performed after being sent from the computer, check the following:

Is the power ON? Turn ON the power of the machine.
Is the printer cable disconnected? Connect the printer cable correctly.
Is the appropriate printer cable used? Please use the appropriate printer cable. If the cable is
cut, replace it with a new one.
The printer cable varies depending on the computer to be
connected. See “SPECIFICATIONS AND OTHER
INFORMATION - PRINTER CABLE SPECIFICATIONS” .
Is paper set? Set paper in the required cassette.
Is any error message displayed? Confirm the error message, then perform the required
action.

NOTES:
✽ After performing any of the actions above, do the Test Print. See “[Test Print] Tab” .
If the Test Print cannot be performed, please call for service.
✽ If the printer is used on a network, ask the network administrator.
