BCI General Specifications

Design: BCI Metis Shelving System

SH2.0 General Product Design and Construction

SH2.0.1 Metis meaning mix, is a shelving evolution that combines the beauty of natural wood and
strength of steel. The systems most evident and individual difference is that both the steel
and wood portions are essential characteristics to the construction.

SH2.0.2 The shelving system is constructed with vertical frames connected by a perimeter frame thus
stabilizing the shelving longitudinally.

SH2.0.3 The frame of the shelving system is in essence a four-post system, which transfers and distributes the
Weight evenly.

SH2.0.4 The shelving is available in single-faced and back-to-back configurations based on a 30”,
36", and 39” wide module.

SH2.0.5 Three wood panel designs have been developed with three distinct looks. (1) Square edge,
(2) Eased edge, (3) Hourglass edge

SH2.0.6 The vertical frames are available for two depths of components including 12", and 15-3/4".

SH2.0.7 The construction of this system shall be based on a starter/add-on concept.

SH2.1 General

SH2.1.1 All finished surfaces shall be free of scratches, mars, dents or blemishes, and exhibit no
flaking, cracking or loss or adhesion.

SH2.1.2 Shelving shall have smooth finishes with no hazardous projections, sharp corners or detail
which can be hazardous and cause personal injury or damage to clothing.

SH2.1.3 The use of transverse top-tie bracing, floor anchors, wall mounts, sway bracing, or any other
added structural apparatus is prohibited.

SH2.2 Specific

SH2.2.1 Steel shelving shall be of a multiple post design with structural vertical units in the form of a
steel ellipse tube and wood panel with round steel tube horizontal members providing maximum column
rigidity and minimizing stack movement.

SH2.2.2 In addition to any warranty implied by fact or law, the Bidder expressly warrants all items to
be new, free from defects in design, materials and workmanship, and be fit and sufficient for intended purpose.
Any sample or model that is submitted shall create an express warranty that the whole of the goods shall
conform to the sample or model.
SH2.2.3 All steel components shall be rendered residue-free and covered with an electrostatically-
applied, thermo-hardened, epoxy powder paint that is 50 – 60 microns thick.

SH2.2.4 All steel components shall be available in eighteen standard colors, 160 non-standard colors
and custom color match by NCS color system.

SH2.2.5 Finish test results shall be submitted for evaluation.
