INTRODUCTION

I had presented on the topic of air pressure. I choose this topic because for my
opinion this topic is an interesting and fascinating topic to teach. A lot of exciting
activities can be applied in classroom in order to teach this topic. In order to understand
air pressure, students must first understand some properties of air.

Although some educators think that air pressure is not suitable to be taught to early
children because it is too abstract and hard, but for my opinion whether it suitable or not
it depend to how we teach the topic and how deep we touch the topic.
In my presentation I was stated a few of learning outcome that I think suitable for
early children: By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. know the existence of air pressure and how it affects objects
2. state factors that affect air pressure
3. State the applications of atmospheric pressure.
It is not a matter to early students to achieve learning outcomes that I have stated. I touch
this topic only on the surface and did not involve abstract thinking. Below is my lesson
plan on my teaching session;

1
Lesson Plan

Time : 70 minutes (double period)

No. of students : 11
Level of proficiency : Intermediate to Advanced (year six students)
Theme : Air
Topic : Air pressure

General objective : The student will be able to identify air pressure and how it affects
objects.

Specific objectives : By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
4. know the existence of air pressure and how it affects objects
5. state factors that affect air pressure
6. State the applications of atmospheric pressure.

Pedagogy : (i) Inquiry and discovery

(iii) Contextual learning

Noble values :(i) Students appreciating the application of science knowledge in

our daily life
(ii) Having critical and analytical thinking
Skills involved : 1. Speaking
2. Critical thinking

Content : 1. individual-work
2. Pair-work
3. Group-work
Teaching Aids : glass, cardboard, bottle, balloon, straw, ping pong ball, filter
funnel, can milk, egg, conical flask,
Previous knowledge : 1. students had learnt about the properties of Air
2. students had learnt about the concept of gravity

2
Phase Teacher activities Teaching and learning Remarks
/Time activities

Set Induction 1. Teacher starts the lesson 1. students impress by

5 minutes by shows students how air the activity shown by
pressure acts on water in a teacher
glass. 2. students gives
attention to the lesson
2. Teacher asks students 3. Students cannot
why the water in the glass answer teacher’s
and the cupboard did not question
fall down.

Rationale
To attract student’s
attention

Development 1. teacher review students Students gives attention

Stage 1 memory about the and listen to the

they had learnt before.

2.teacher then explains to

the students about the
existence of air pressure
and how it affects object.

Rationale
Students are informed
of the of air pressure

1. teacher explains to
students how to do
Stage 2 activities.
30 minutes
2. Teacher distributes
materials to the students to
do activities below;

• Flattened roof Students do activities

• Inverted water glass individually

3
• Ping pong ball Students do activities in
• Water blowing pair

3. teacher then shows

demonstration on below Students gives attention
activities; to the teaching

• Balloon in the
bottle
• Egg into conical
flask

Rationale
Critical thinking, discovery
learning and social learning

Stage 3 Teacher explains to

20 minutes students factors affecting
air pressure;

-Temperature

- Altitude

- Air Velocity

Teacher asks student’s Students not sure with

opinion, is air pressure their answer
important or not to our
daily life.

Teacher then explains the

application of air pressure
in our daily life. Examples;

• Drinking straw
• Syringe
• Hole on a can
Students pour milk from

students to drink the juice
by using both straws.

Rationale
Critical thinking, discovery
learning. Students
understand the application
of air pressure in our daily
life.

Closure 1. teacher distribute to Students answer the

10 minutes students the worksheet
worksheet and asks
students to answer.
2.
3. teacher discuss with
students the answer

4. Teacher goes
through the day’s
lesson
