Here's my answer: “It's a bead covered with beads or one made solely out of beads, like a miniature sculpture with a hole in it. You can wear it alone ona chain or incorporate it into elaborate pieces of jewelry. Some beaded beads are suave, some are spunky, some are just plain beautiful, They work up quickly and are much like potato chips—you can't make just one.” My explanation often received blank stares until | displayed a sample of the real thing. So the main point is this: Beaded beads are as varied as their makers. They are versatile components for jewelry- making, and they're just about as instantly gratifying as beadwork gets. Before vou start on your own beaded beads, be sure to check the Tips section on page 104. Another resource is the Stitches section on page 105, which Clearly defines cach stitch used in the book. Together, the illustrations and words will help you lean a new stitch or jog your bead-stitching memory. Now’s the time for fun! Page through these thirty wonderful projects, pick a favorite beaded bead, rummage through your stash, and make one—after another, after another, after another. Don't worry, they're not fattening! —Jean Campbell Editor, Beadwork magazine and books
