In the airline industry, the service they offer and the technology they use to tender
their services equal the competitive advantage of the company. They should impress
the public by their unique service. The entertainment provided in the flights should
never include anything which may annoy the passengers. Cathay Pacific has also
involved in social activities that tend to build up a better relationship with the clients.

Technology
The rapid changes in technology affected the company and the airline industry much.
The airline industry needs to offer new innovations in its technological aspect and
bring in new ideas with regards to its industry. Being the pioneer in technology in the
airline industry, Cathay Pacific keeps on adopting latest technologies in the online
booking system and communication channel. In Asia, the internet users rose in a great
amount in last five years. The amount of internet users in Asia occupied over 40% of
the world population(Table 1). The increasing trend shows the higher acceptance of
the internet service to Asians.

Environment
With the raise of environmental awareness in establishing a better environment to
children, the airline industry has to pay high attention in environmental aspect. There
are regulations put on the gases and other equipments used on the air transport
devices. The green organizations, such as Green Aviation International, put much
pressure to this industry. Therefore, the airline industry has introduced better waste
management strategies that aim to reduce pollutants and create a cleaner environment
for the future. In these years, Cathay Pacific has participated in many environmental
campaigns and encouraged the staff to be environmental friendly in their homes. She
is able to meet globally recognized corporate responsibility standards.
