From: Program Director (PGDM-P/T) To: All participants of PGDM P/T Program
(2009-2012)
As you are aware, your course package includes a field project equivalent to two courses in term of
weightage. You can do this alone or in groups of not more than three members. You may take a
company based study or do a survey or produce a research work of quality. Needless to say, the field
project should be fresh effort rather than an extrapolation of work done in earlier courses. There is an
award of Rs. 500/- (rupees five hundred only) for the best project report.
The field project is a course alternative provided especially to the part –time students at IMI .The design
and philosophy of the course is based on the job pressures of a working executive. Sometimes the
student/student groups select projects which are too ambitious or impractical within the given time
schedule. Thus, what you need to do at the pre-proposal stage is as follows
1. Select a research topic you would like to pursue and choose a faculty member from IMI as your
guide. Faculty guide must be from the stream relevant to your topic: eg, Finance, Marketing, Operations.
2. Discuss the research topic with your guide and finalize the same with his approval. Please finalize
your project guide and submit hard copy of the consent from the guide in the given Project Approval Format
provided, by 7th February, 2011.
3. Preliminary project proposals (synopsis) covering the following points should be submitted to the
PGDM office on or before 28th February 2011. Discuss the synopsis with your guide before submitting it.
4. A representative list of research topics chosen by previous batches for field research is enclosed
herewith to give you an idea of the kind of research problems that have been taken up by previous batches
for investigation. The list is only meant to be illustrative.
5. It is advisable to seek sponsorship or approval of the project from the concerned organizations so
that the research finding could be of relevance of their specific requirements. In doing so you may approach
the prospective organizations directly or you may take up the study in the organization where you are
currently employed.
3. All written submission of proposals should be made, typed on quarto bond sheets (1.5 line space) in
triplicate.
4. The final report should invariably be typed quarto bond sheets (1.5 line space ) and submitted in duplicate
(two copies)
5. Final date for the proposal defense and reviews would be announced as the time progresses.
