EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

We follow market research procedure to get an extensive idea about the general
perception in the mass. I covered Ghaziabad area for this purpose.

We examined thoroughly areas such as the number of players, technology they are
offering, their customer base, whether this is appealing to the common people or not, how they
market their services etc.

The Indian scenario has been evaluated considering the facts like, players in the market,
advantages, drawbacks, and connectivity hazards.

We have taken the help of survey along with certain URL’s to get information related to
this project.

After that we visited to 80 respondent in Ghaziabad areas to get our questionnaire filled
and to get other important information. After getting the information we made a study that
between these two brand which one is the best and what are the perception of customer regarding
this two brands. For our study Prof. Anubha vashist has helped us to get our work done.

TOPIC AND INTRODUCTION

Topic- Analysis the various Factors which influence customer perception towards Bajaj PULSAR
and Hero Honda CBZ.

Introduction-This research suggests that the presence of other persons in a purchasing situation is
likely to have a normative influence on the decision to make a purchase. The nature of this
influence, however, depends on both perceptions of the normative expectations of the individuals
who exert the influence and the motivation to comply with these expectations. Peers and family
members are the two primary sources of social influence, often have different normative
expectations.

Thus, it has been evaluated two factors that are likely to affect the motivation to conform to social
norms:

a) The inherent susceptibility to social influence and

b) The structure of the group
5
Group cohesiveness refers to the extent to which a group is attractive to its members. The theory
proposed by Fishbein and Ajzen helps conceptualize these effects. This theory assumes that
behavior is a multiplicative function of expectations for what others consider to be socially
desirable and the motivation to comply with these expectations.

In our project we will see the various factors which influence the customer perception
regarding the two brands. We will try to find the reason why the customer purchase a particular
brand and What are the reason which influence them to buy a product brand either from Bajaj or
hero Honda and also try to know when they buy these products, when someone influence them
and when they required it or on any occasion, promotion and advertisement.

If they are not buying or buying the Bajaj pulsar and hero Honda apart from this which is
the other product in motor bike which the like most and why they like most. What are the things
attract them to buy Bajaj pulsar or hero Honda cbz and why. What are their behaviors which
make differences between Bajaj pulsar and hero Honda cbz.

6
SCOPE OF THE TASK

For us- It was the great opportunity for us to do this project. Analyzed the different
factors which influenced the customer perception towards the two different brands is the
one of the most important aspect of the marketing. If we come to know what the consumer
want, what they think, what are the things which influence in their decision making then
we can rule the market as well as consumer also. But it is very hard to know about the
customer desire, their perception, their thinking that is why customer known as “king” and
we always try to know more and more about the customer. So we can able to attract them
and get success to sell the products. I talked with 80 respondent and get to know what

7
they want, what they like most, what are the things attract them, which are the things
influence to purchase, when they purchase, why and how.

Honda CBZ Xtreme

Specifications:

Engine: Aircooled single cylinder 4 stroke OHC

Displacement: 149.2 cc

Maximum Power: 10.6 KW (14.4 PS) @ 8500 RPM

Maximal Torque: 12.8 N-m @ 6500 RPM

9
Gear Box: 5 Speed

Brakes: 240mm Front Disc and 130 mm Rear Drum

Tires: Front: 2.75 x 18 – 42P, Rear: 100/90 x 18 – 56P

Fuel Capacity: 12.3 Litres (+ 1.5 Ltrs Reserve)

How does it look?

The bike has very little resemblance to the old CBZ the headlights got a completely new design.
However this is a small disappointment to CBZ lovers because the new ones do not look as good
as the old one and also looks a little small for a bike of this size. The first thing that one would
notice in this bike is the indicator lights.

Both the back and front indicators merge with the main lights and it looks really nice and unique.
The side part of the bike also got a significant face lift. The colored body part connects as a single
line from the tank to the tail lights and is very nicely contoured. Another feature which adds to its
cool looks is the grip handle bars for the pillion rider… standing out as two individual horn like
bars, it adds to the uniqueness of CBZ. Also the silencer is new and improved.

How does it perform?

When I took the bike for a test drive, the first thought that came up in my mind was ‘wow! this
bike feels just like the Hero Honda Hunk’, then after checking the specifications, I noticed that
both Hunk and CBZ have the exact same 149.2 cc Engine. So you can see Hero Honda Hunk
Review for more information about performace of CBZ because both have the same engine! The
old CBZ had a 156 cc engine, but did not have the pickup and mileage as that of the present
engine. Definitely Hero Honda has made some improvement in the engine for this new CBZ
Xtreme. It is also claimed that this new model gives a better mileage than the old one, but I cannot
be sure of that unless I hear from a real user of CBZ.

Features: The dash board has 3 dials, one for the speedometer, one for the rpm indicator and
another for the fuel indicator… all of them descend in the order of the size… looks nice doesn’t
it? The shock absorbers do not have the Gas shock absorber unit as it is advertised in Hunk and
other bikes, but I would confidently say that it does not make the slightest difference in ride
quality.

How does it stand out?

One of the biggest advantages that this bike has is the CBZ brand name. CBZ has been one of
most passionate bikes for a very long time… the name alone is worth a price tag. CBZ was

10
adopted from CBR, which is a very famous 600cc bike in foreign countries. The indicator lights
and rear grip bars also make it unique because no other bike in the country has such a feature.

Hero Honda CBZ Xtreme comes in 5 great colours: Sports Red, Candy Blazing Red, Boon Silver
Metallic, Black and Vibrant Blue Metallic.

Bajaj
The Bajaj Group is amongst the top 10 business houses in India. Its footprint stretches over a
wide range of industries, spanning automobiles (two-wheelers and three-wheelers), home
appliances, lighting, iron and steel, insurance, travel and finance. The group's flagship company,
Bajaj Auto, is ranked as the world's fourth largest two- and three- wheeler manufacturer and the
Bajaj brand is well-known across several countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, South
and South East Asia. Founded in 1926, at the height of India's movement for independence from
the British, the group has an illustrious history. The integrity, dedication, resourcefulness and
determination to succeed which are characteristic of the group today, are often traced back to its
birth during those days of relentless devotion to a common cause. Jamnalal Bajaj, founder of the
group, was a close confidant and disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. In fact, Gandhiji had adopted him
as his son. This close relationship and his deep involvement in the independence movement did
not leave Jamnalal Bajaj with much time to spend on his newly launched business venture.

His son, Kamalnayan Bajaj, then 27, took over the reigns of business in 1942. He too was close to
Gandhiji and it was only after Independence in 1947, that he was able to give his full attention to
the business. Kamalnayan Bajaj not only consolidated the group, but also diversified into various
manufacturing activities. The present Chairman of the group, Rahul Bajaj, took charge of the
business in 1965. Under his leadership, the turnover of the Bajaj Auto the flagship company has
gone up from INR.72 million to INR. 120 billion, its product portfolio has expanded and the
brand has found a global market. He is one of India’s most distinguished business leaders and
internationally respected for his business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit.

Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTS-i Specifications:

Maximum Power: 10.37 KW (14.09 PS) @ 8500 RPM

Maximal Torque: 12.76 N-m @ 6500 RPM

Gear Box: 5 Speed

11
Wheel Base: 1320mm

Tires: Rear: 100 x 90

Wheels: 17″ Alloy wheels

How does it look?

The engineers at Bajaj realized the fact that if there is no beauty and only brawn, it is not going to
sell in the Indian market. Claimed to be designed and developed in Japan, this bike does have a
head turning looks. The most noticeable feature of this bike is the tank. Big tanks give a big bike
feel, and when Pulsar was introduced, it had one of the biggest tanks in India.

The design of the headlamps has been viewed differently by people. Some really love it and some
say it could have been designed better. The headlight comes with city lights also called tell tale
lights which is a value addition to its looks. Bullet and Karizma were the only bikes with city
lights before Pulsar was introduced.

The tail part of the bike… hmm, yeah, I could say it is nicely designed too. Here too there is a
difference of opinion. The new razor sharp rear light, whether looking good or nor not, definitely
adds to the uniqueness of Bajaj Pulsar.

How does it perform?

Bajaj says “DTS-i gives high power without compromising on mileage.” and the bike lives upto
this statement. Another great advantage of the Digital Twin Spark ignition is the throttle
responsiveness. Definitely the throttle response is better than the CBZ. It does give a good
adrenaline rush when you twist the throttle.

When I had a ride on this bike, what I felt was a feeling of insecurity. Eventhough the bike is
heavy, I somehow felt that the bike is not as safe as the Karizma. I cannot technically explain why
it is so, but thats what I felt. But the pickup is awesome. Karizma picks up in slow and steady
pace and maintains stability at high speeds, but Pulsar jumps off pretty fast but cannot be as good
as the Karizma when at speed more than 80 kmph.

Bajaj has generously provided Pulsar with good disc breaks, but the brakes are too sensitive that it
has to be applied carefully. I have heard many people applying the front discs too quick and due
to the type of weight distribution that the bike has, the bike topples over.

It is claimed that the Bajaj Pulsar 150cc gives a mileage of around 55 – 60 kmpl. But it greatly
depends on user riding quality, service quality and frequency of maintenance

How does it stand out?

12
Bajaj Pulsar was a great buy sometime ago, but right now considering the competition there are
better bikes around from Honda, TVS and Yamaha. People are already bored seeing too many
Pulsars in the city. It is time for Bajaj too launch a new 150cc model to its product line.

The digital console was an attraction a while ago, but now many bikes have introduced them. If
you are a Pulsar fan and have admired the bike for quite a long time, then go ahead and buy it.
