ARTICLE 1 – INTRODUCTION

As an athlete affiliated to the IFBB within his/her Province, it is required that each athlete takes the
time to read up on the AMATEUR RULES of the IFBB SA as well as the IFBB SA
CONSTITUTION – both of which are on the IFBB SA web site : www.ifbbsa.com

All that he/she needs to know to be a member of the IFBB will be within the covers of the IFBB SA
CONSTITUTION and the IFBB SA AMATEUR RULES, and therefore the contents of both need to
be taken into consideration.

ARTICLE 2 – IFBB SOUTH AFRICA

IFBB SOUTH AFRICA is an established bodybuilding federation with structured Provincial

Committees. There is no doubt that the IFBB is a great federation. However, people generally
look at the federation without actually noticing the countless individuals whose dedication and
commitment allow the word “great” to be synonymous with the IFBB. Officials from each Province
contribute their time, energy, finances, resources and professionalism to make our sport the
popular lifestyle that it is. Without these dedicated officials there would not be a structure in the
Province, there would be no IFBB, and there would certainly be no shows.

IFBBSA is a nonprofit organization, and no official is paid a salary for their services to the IFBB SA.

ARTICLE 3 – SHOWS ON A PROVINCIAL / NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL

LEVEL

A. THE THREE SHOWS WITHIN A PROVINCE

Your Province will host the following three Provincial shows per year :-

- A NOVICE SHOW anytime from Feb to April (inclusive)

Though this show is aimed at the novice athletes (all new athletes to our sport and to our
federation) – DEVELOPMENT, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED ATHLETES PLEASE
NOTE : Your Province will also include open divisions for you - and this is a good
opportunity for you to enter if you have changed your diet or training techniques
and would like to see the results of this before the major shows later on in the year,
or you would simply just like to compete “to get back into the swing” – though
aimed at the Novice - this show is open for anyone to enter and not just the Novices.

Kindly note that this show is a selection show to select a TEAM of Novice Athletes
to represent the Province at the IFBB SA NATIONAL NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

- A MID YEAR SHOW anytime from May to July (inclusive)

Though this show is aimed at the open divisions offered for the development, intermediate
and the more advanced athletes – ALL NOVICES PLEASE TAKE NOTE you are
welcome to enter - there will be novice divisions available for you as well as all of
the OPEN CATEGORY DIVISIONS. This show is open for anyone to enter.

- THE PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS no less than two weeks prior to SA’s.

There are no novice divisions offered at the Provincials – however anyone can enter
the various open category divisions of this show within their Province, which
includes anyone from a Novice athlete to a development athlete to an Intermediate
athlete to an advanced athlete. This show is open for anyone to enter.

Kindly note that this show is a selection show to select a TEAM of Athletes to
represent the Province at the IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Due to the wide range of divisions offered by the IFBB, the Provincial Structure has the right to use
their own discretion with regards to what categories and divisions they will have when they are
planning their shows. The categories and/or division can vary depending on the level of
competition and the “market” at that particular show. The Provincial Committee generally knows
what their “market” is, and will cater accordingly.

It is common for a Province to group divisions per category together :

(EG. Have one line up for body fitness instead of the four different height divisions, or have one
master’s line up instead of the various available, or have one Junior’s instead of the two available
etc).

General Condition that will apply and be adopted by all Provincial Structures
If there are less than three competitors on the morning of registration in a division that has been
advertised, it will be at the discretion of the officials to then either still run the division on it’s own –
or combine with another.

B. NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

IFBB SA will host the following National Championships :-

• The IFBB SA NATIONAL NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS

• The IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
• The IFBB SA MUSCLE EVOLUTION GRAND PRIX
• Any other National Show designed by the IFBB SA / or sanctioned by the IFBB SA

Kindly note that Team selections for the various IFBB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS will be
done at the IFBB SOUTH AFRICAN CHAMPIONSHIPS.
• Selections for any other International Championship will be advised.

C. INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

IFBB INTERNATIONAL will host the following International Championships :-

• THE WOMEN’S AND MEN’S FITNESS WORLD CHAMPS

• THE JUNIORS AND MASTERS WORLD CHAMPS
• THE CLASSIC BODYBUILDING WORLD CHAMPS
• THE SENIOR MEN’S WORLD CHAMPS
• THE ARNOLD CLASSIC AMATEUR DIVISIONS
• THE OLYMPIA AMATEUR DIVISIONS

A note to all athletes :

IFBB SA needs to select the best possible athletes to compete at any of the World
Championships – the standard is extremely high, and therefore it truly is an honor for an
athlete to be selected. An Athlete should not assume because he/she has placed first or
second in their division at the IFBB SA CHAMPS, that he/she will automatically be selected
to represent IFBB SA at the various World Championships. The athlete must be of World
class standard.

There is also a maximum quota of athletes that can participate at each of the world
championships. And we need to stay within this quota.

ARTICLE 4 - DEFINITIONS OF A COMPETITOR

Though athletes are not necessarily “put into” or even “referred to” in a specific category by their
Provincial structure - these terms are merely for your interest to see the progression of an athlete
as he/she gains experience and confidence and achievements within the sport ………..

A. A JUNIOR ATHLETE
A Junior is an athlete male or female up to age 18 or 21 – he/she may compete as a JUNIOR
COMPETITOR up to and including December 31st of the same year in which the athlete reaches
his or her 18th or 21st Birthday. Provinces may host both sets of divisions at a show.

B. MASTERS – MALE ATHLETE

There are various Masters (male) divisions, and a master athlete will be in the age range of 40-49,
50-59 or 60 plus. If a male athlete chooses to compete as a MASTER COMPETITOR he shall fall
into the category appropriate to his age on the day of the competition. This does not mean
however, that once an athlete is 40 and over that he is restricted to only enter the masters
categories – he may still remain a competitor in the open senior categories if he so chooses. (But
not in both divisions at one show).

C. MASTERS – FEMALE ATHLETE

A master female athlete is 35 years of age or older. (A female athlete may compete as a MASTER
COMPETITOR from January 1st of the year in which the athlete reaches her 35th Birthday). This
does not mean however, that this athlete is restricted to this age group – she may still compete in
the open senior female categories if she so chooses. (But not in both divisions at one show).

D. A NOVICE ATHLETE
WHO IS A NOVICE : A novice competitor is an athlete who has never competed in an IFBB show
before.
HOW LONG DOES A NOVICE ATHLETE REMAIN A NOVICE AFTER THEIR FIRST YEAR :
The novice athlete who has placed 4th , 5th,6th (or lower in a longer line up) in any novice division at
any show, and was not selected to participate in the IFBB SA NOVICE CHAMPS or IFBB SA
NATIONAL CHAMPS of the same year. He/she may remain a novice FOR ONE MORE YEAR.
He/she may then re-enter as a novice for one more year WHICH HAS TO BE IN THE YEAR
DIRECTLY AFTER. If this athlete takes a break during the year directly after, he/she will forfeit
their novice status, and will have to move on to the open divisions in the year that they return.
AND WHEN THE ATHLETE DOES COMPETE AGAIN AS A NOVICE IN THE YEAR DIRECTLY
AFTER - regardless of his/her placing during this year, he/she will have to move on to the open
divisions in the following year.

A NOVICE ATHLETE AUTOMATICALLY NO LONGER QUALIFIES AS A NOVICE AFTER

THEIR FIRST YEAR WHEN : A novice competitor has placed 1st,2nd,3rd in any novice division at
any show and/or the novice athlete was selected to represent his/her Province at the IFBB SA
NATIONAL NOVICE CHAMPS or IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPS in the same year – then he/she
may only re enter as a Novice in their Province for the remainder of that same year. utomatically,
he/she will then move on to the open divisions in the following year.
Also if an athlete chooses to “by pass” the novice progression and goes straight from never
entering an IFBB show before directly to the open divisions – he/she too is no longer a novice.
An athlete also does not ‘revert back to being a novice again” if he/she moves from one category
into another. IE – from Junior to Senior / or from Senior to Masters etc.

E. A DEVELOPMENT ATHLETE
This is an athlete that has just passed the Novice stage – and is still in a “learning phase”. This
would still be a fairly new athlete to the sport only in his/her second (and sometimes even third)
year of participation. He/she will then naturally transition into the intermediate category. A
development athlete may NOT enter into a Novice line up.

F. AN INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED ATHLETE

An intermediate athlete is someone that has passed the Novice and Development stages, and has
sufficient confidence and experience in the sport – he/she will automatically and easily transition
into the advanced category.

ARTICLE 5 - AN ATHLETE ENTERING MORE THAN ONE DIVISION AT A SHOW

The only time that an athlete may enter more than one division at a show is :

IF he/she is competing as a novice ‘in their novice year/stage” - then he/she must enter the
novice line up at a show – and will have the option to enter the applicable open division line up for
their age & weight at the same show. We allow for this flexibility for the main purpose of stage
experience, confidence building and a learning experience for the NOVICE athlete. The NOVICE
athlete should stand in a line up against all other novices – but he/she will also be granted the
opportunity to stand in a line up against the open category athletes within his/her age, weight and
division in the same show. This NOVICE athlete will then simply have to complete two separate
entry forms and pay two sets of entry fees.
OR an open division athlete (ie an athlete no longer a novice) – who may only enter ONE
open division applicable to his/her age and weight - may take note that, the only other open
division that he/she may enter in at the same show is the ONE LINE UP ROUTINE WITH PROP
category. This athlete will then simply have to complete two separate entry forms and pay two
sets of entry fees.
Apart from the above – no other double entries will be accepted at any show.

ARTICLE 6 – ID CHECK

All junior and master division athletes will show their ID document to the Provincial Chief Judge or
weigh in official at the weigh in procedure.

ARTICLE 7 - AFFILIATION TO IFBB SA

The IFBB rules and regulations prevent us from accepting any athlete or individual unless they are
members of the recognized Provincial Structure and thus the National Federation. Therefore,
individuals or athletes who wish to become members of IFBB within their Province, will do so by
paying a set standard annual affiliation fee directly to the Province. This fee is decided on by all
Provinces at the National Congress. This fee is the same in all Provinces and will be revised from
time to time at the IFBB SA Annual Congress. All athletes need to affiliate to the IFBB before they
can enter a competition. This fee will be paid once each year.

Each athlete or individual that affiliates to the IFBB SA, will receive an IFBB AFFILIATION CARD
from their Provincial Structure. This card must then be produced at any competition that the
athlete competes in thereafter. If the card is lost or destroyed before it needs to be replaced (due
to being full), the Provincial structure has the right to charge the athlete R15.00 for a new card, plus
a new affiliation fee.

ARTICLE 8 – THE ENTRY FEE AT A SHOW

The Entry fee at a show is totally separate to that of the annual affiliation fee as per above.
An athlete will pay a set standard entry fee directly to the Province for the division that he/she
wishes to enter in at a competition. A Novice athlete that enters two divisions (ie their novice line
up as well as their open category line up) will pay two sets of entry fees.
This fee is decided on by all Provinces at the National Congress, and the entry fee charged would
be the same in all Provinces for the Nov / Dev show for the Mid Year show and for the Provincials.

ARTICLE 9 – TO QUALIFY WITHIN A PROVINCE TO PARTICIPATE

IN THE IFBB SA NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THE IFBB SA NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIPS
An athlete will only be accepted to enter a ‘selection show” in the Province in which
he/she resides (and utility bills are sent to).
This would be applicable for the PROVINCIAL TEAM selection show (ie Nov/ Dev show) for the
IFBB SA NOVICE NATIONAL CHAMPS and for the PROVINCIAL TEAM selection show (ie
Provincials) for the IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPS. Therefore, it is not ethical to enter into any
other Provinces selection show if the athlete does not reside in that Province. Chairman of a
Province will keep a strict check on this. The committee structure has the right to call for a copy of
a utility bill from the athlete if they suspect that the athlete is not from their Province. Only athletes
in Provinces with no IFBB COMMITTEE STRUCTURE may enter at a Province closest to them.

ARTICLE 10 - IFBB COLORS

A. PROVINCIAL COLORS TOP OR TRACKSUIT

Once an athlete has been selected to represent their Province at a National Championship and has
confirmed their participation, he/she will receive a Provincial Colors top or tracksuit. This will be
worn at the National Championship by all Provincial Team Members. They will only be awarded
this for their actual participation in the Provincial Team.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL ATHLETES :-

If an athlete has confirmed their participation and their top has been ordered and given to
him/her and the athlete does not appear at the National Championship to participate – this
athlete will be asked to return his/her colors top or tracksuit and he/she will be suspended
for a one year period from competing in the IFBB.

B. PROVINCIAL COLORS BADGE

An athlete will be awarded an IFBB Provincial Colors Badge if he/she places in the top three at the
IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. If this athlete places in the top three again thereafter,
he/she will be given permission by the Provincial Chairman to add a new scroll (with the name of
the hosting Province and year), under the badge – and so on. The badge will be worn on a navy
blue blazer – on the left hand breast pocket. The blazer and any scrolls will be purchased by the
recipient of the badge.

C. IFBB HONORS BADGE

An athlete will be awarded an IFBB Honors Badge if he/she represents IFBB SA at an

INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. If the same athlete represents IFBB SA again, he/she will
receive an OFFICIAL IFBB LETTER from the National Secretary granting him/her permission to
add a new scroll (with the name of the Country and the Year), under the badge – and so on. The
badge will be worn on a navy blue blazer – on the left hand breast pocket. The blazer and any
scrolls will be purchased by the recipient of the badge.

AN IFBB HONORS BADGE SUPERSEDES ANY PROVINCIAL COLORS BADGE.

the venue, time will not be wasted and a new piece of music will be played – the athlete
will be expected to continue with his/her routine as normal.

11. NB…NB…NB… Athletes are to hand their music in at the registration and weigh in

21. Athletes may not leave the area or move away from the Backstage Manager, whilst their

28. The main final evening show is entertainment for the audience, therefore, to ensure that
they enjoy a smooth running show, we are eliminating any live judging from the
evening show. At pre judging, athletes are asked to remain backstage until the all clear

39. A no tolerance stance will be taken with any athlete that disrespects an official of the IFBB
in any way.

40. An athlete needs to be fully prepared when participating in an IFBB competition.

GENERAL RULES OF PARTICIPATION WHEN

ARTICLE 12 –
SELECTED FOR A PROVINCIAL TEAM TO PARTICIPATE AT
A NATIONAL SHOW (NOT LIMITED TO ONLY THIS LIST )
ALTHOUGH BODYBUILDING IS VERY MUCH AN INDIVIDUAL SPORT, ONCE AN ATHLETE
HAS BEEN SELECTED BY THEIR PROVINCE TO FORM PART OF A PROVINCIAL TEAM TO
PARTICIPATE AT A NATIONAL SHOW – THE ATHLETE THEN AUTOMATICALLY BECOMES
PART OF A TEAM.
THE ATHLETE WOULD NOT BE COMPETING AT A NATIONAL SHOW IF HE/SHE WAS NOT
SELECTED BY THEIR PROVINCE TO BECOME PART OF THEIR PROVINCIAL TEAM.

WHILST THE ATHLETE IS PART OF THIS PROVINCIAL TEAM, HE/SHE WILL THEN NO
LONGER PARTICIPATE IN THE NEXT STAGE AT A NATIONAL COMPETITION ON HIS/HER
OWN AGENDA.
EACH ATHLETE IS EXPECTED TO FOLLOW THE IFBB REQUIREMENTS. (AND THIS IS
REGARDLESS IF THE ATHLETE IS PAYING FOR HIS/HER OWN TRIP IN FULL OR IN PART).
IT IS AN HONOUR TO BE SELECTED AND TO REPRESENT YOUR PROVINCE AT ANY
NATIONAL COMPETITION AND SHOULD BE VIEWED WITH PRIDE. THIS IS A BIG DEAL.

1. The National Competitions that will be represented by Provincial Teams are the IFBB SA
NATIONAL NOVICE CHAMPS and the IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPS. When you have
entered a “qualifying” Provincial Competition for either one of these champs – you need to
remain until the end of the show at the competition to see if you have made the TEAM or
not.
The announcement of the team selection will be made at the end of that show on the same
evening, therefore – athletes should not leave until the end of the show to make sure if they
have made the team or not.

2. When the announcement is made and your name is called, you will be asked to make your
way to the stage for a five minute meeting.

3. If an athlete’s name is on the list but does not come onto the stage at the end of the show
when his/her name is called, the committee will then assume that the athlete is not wishing
to participate as part of the Provincial Team at the National Championship – and therefore
the athlete will not be given the opportunity and - The athlete’s name will be scratched
from the list.

4. It should not be necessary for any committee structure to chase up an athlete after the
event if he/she did not make an effort to come on to the stage.
5. You will then receive as much PRELIMINARY information as possible regarding the
National Championship that you have been selected for in a document form.

6. The PRELIMINARY information given in the document (but not limited to these examples)
will be items such as transport / accommodation / dates of show / venue / date of arrival to
the show / the running schedule of the show / the divisions offered / subsidies / colors
tracksuits or tops / what is expected of you / when your first official TEAM MEETING will be
/ date of confirmation for your participation / sponsorship letter / leave letter / etc etc
7. You will then be given a couple of days to organize whatever is necessary to make a
decision if you are going to compete or not, and you will be expected to give the Provincial
Chairman a call to confirm by the due date of confirmation given on your document or
verbally at your five minute meeting at the end of the show.

8. If you have decided that you are going to participate and you have spoken to your
Chairman, he/she will then confirm with you which arrangements you will be expected to
carry out on your own and which arrangements will be done by the committee.

9. You will also be given the date / venue and time of your official PROVINCIAL TEAM
MEETING (this should be no later than one week after your selection show).

10. The final arrangements for the PROVINCIAL TEAM TOUR will take place at the meeting.
You will be introduced to your TEAM MANAGER, and you will have an opportunity to ask
any questions. All final confirmations will then be made with the entire team.

4. Athletes will be asked to come onto the stage for a brief meeting.

5. If an athlete does not come up onto the stage, it will be taken for granted, that the athlete
does not want to participate. And this athlete will not be given an opportunity at a later
stage to participate at the International Championships.

6. It should not be necessary for any official to chase up an athlete after the event if he/she
did not make an effort to come up onto the stage.
7. A brief meeting will be held.

advertising in any form of media or other – to further the goals of the IFBB. This can be done
without the consent of the athlete. This is not to say that family members or friends may not take
photographs at shows, it simply means that it should not be allowed that random photographers
sell these to the athletes or to the general public if they are not officially appointed by the IFBB
structure. They may also not publish them in any form of media or put them up onto any web site
without the proper authority and acceptance of the IFBB.

VIDEOS :- Exactly the same principle will be applied to people taking videos. Only Officially
appointed persons taking a video of a show will be entitled to sell these on to the athletes or
members. Not only can the athletes themselves purchase a copy of the video, but the IFBB on a
Provincial or National level is entitled to use the competition video for any purpose of advertising in
any form to further the goals of the IFBB – this can be done without the consent of the athletes or a
member of the general public that may also appear on the video.
ARTICLE 17 – GENERAL DISCIPLINE

If an athlete of the IFBB transgresses in any way against the IFBB SA CONSTITUTION,
DIRECTIVES, RULES AND REGULATIONS, VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS BY AN OFFICIAL IFBB
MEMBER, THE SUPPORT DOCUMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION ETC. one or more of the
following may take place :

1. A fine may be imposed

2. A suspension may be imposed
3. A ban may be imposed

If this does occur, the athlete will be notified in writing and / or by telephone, email or fax. The
conditions of any one of the above should be taken seriously and will be expected to be carried
out. All Provincial Structures will be notified of a suspension, fine or ban that has been imposed on
an athlete, supporter or member of the IFBB.

ARTICLE 18 – CHAIN OF AUTHORITY

Though the IFBB HEAD OFFICE believes completely in an open door policy – we have an
increasingly large number of enquiries that will pertain to a Province and that can easily be
addressed within that Province directly.
Each Provincial structure is more than capable of sorting out any problems, answering queries and
assisting with matters within their own Province.

Athletes, members and supporters need to know that all matters pertaining to their Province need
to be addressed within the Province either directly with the Provincial Chairman or a member of the
Provincial Committee Structure. This will include (but not limited to) matters such as :-

• Competition details (times / venue / divisions / entry fee / etc etc)

• New Judges Course or any other seminar details
• Disputes within the Province on any matter
• General information about the Province
• Assistance on any matter
• ETC ETC

If there is an athlete, member or supporter that is not happy with the end result of their enquiry
within the Province, they are then welcome to contact the IFBB HEAD OFFICE.

GENERAL ASSESSMENT OF ROUND ONE

All of the girls are wearing a matt black bikini, with no jewelry and hair off shoulders and

JUDGES TO ASSESS THE ATHLETES ON AN EQUAL FOOTING.

This round allows the Judge to assess each muscle group.

• The physique will be assessed on the overall level of muscle tone, achieved through
athletic, sporting or training endeavors.
• Muscle groups should have a round and firm appearance with a very small amount of body
fat.
• The physique should neither be excessively muscular (have thicker muscle groups as in
the ladies bodybuilding) and should be free of deep muscle separation and/or excessive
striations.
• The judges will assess the overall athletic appearance of the physique.
• It will begin at the head and end at the toes.
• The Judge should look at each athletes proportion – which should be balanced within the
muscle groups
• The presentation of a balanced symmetrically developed physique and the athlete’s ability

GENERAL ASSESSMENT OF ROUND TWO

All of the athletes will wear a bikini and shoes of their own choice. The purpose of this is to
show off their personality in the design and color that they select. The bikini will have
accessories.

Once again Judges will have a look at each athlete in round two with “fresh” eyes and a
new assessment - as they will be looking at different criteria.

This round allows the Judge to look at the personality, charm, poise, grace, confidence of
the athlete – as well as a presentation of an overall “TOTAL PACKAGE”
• The athletes have chosen their own individual taste in color and style of bikini and shoes –
therefore showing a little of their individualism and personality.
• Judges may assess their confidence
• Their overall beauty
• Their overall proportion and symmetry
• Their overall grace and poise
• Their overall “personality”
• Their overall appearance
• Their overall skin - face - hair presentation
• Their individuality
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BODY FITNESS ATHLETES :-
BODY FITNESS ATTIRE, girls will be asked to show their shoes and /or costumes at the
registration/weigh in table.

FOR THE PREJUDING EVENT OF THE COMPETITION, the girls participating will perform both
rounds (1 & 2) abiding by the rules and regulations as well as being aware of all requirements.

FOR THE FINAL MAIN EVENING SHOW, the girls will only perform one round which will be
ROUND TWO – BIKINI OF OWN CHOICE - For the following reasons :-

• Due to the fact that the evening show is really entertainment for the audience, and it is very
difficult to keep their attention when many don’t really understand the purpose of all the
costume changes.
• At the evening show we need to accommodate all final participants performing their
individual posing routines for all other divisions (men and women), and therefore find it
increasingly difficult, to “slot” all three rounds of the body fitness in between. There
generally is a time constraint at the evening show.
• There is no live judging.
• The hosts of the competition aim for the evening show to run smoothly and in sequence.

Therefore by taking all of this into consideration, it has been decided that BODY FITNESS
participants will only perform one round in the evening – straight after which, the placing will be
announced and presentations done.

2. WOMEN’S FITNESS
GENERAL

This division has two rounds – the first is the routine round and the second is the quarter turn
round. The girls should be athletic and fit. They will not perform compulsory poses, but will
perform the quarter turns. The length of the free routine will be 90 seconds.

There are two divisions – up to and including 163cm and over 163cm for both junior and
senior divisions.

A. ROUND ONE - ROUTINE

THE REASON THAT THE ROUTINE ROUND IS FIRST :-
• It will be easier for the athletes to do their routine without having to use the tan
• The athlete will not stain the stage
• The athlete will not stain the routine attire with tan
• They can also do sufficient stretching before the routine
• The Judges can score the girls on their quality of routine, and then score on their quarter
turns – therefore putting great emphasis on the routine
REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS ROUND

• Girls may wear attire and tennis or athletic shoes to perform their
routine as well as barefoot if they so choose.
• NO G STRINGS at all. Not to be worn over garments or under garments.
• No props may be used.
• Bikini bottoms must cover ¾ of bottom area.
• At all times, the bikini bottom must be worn in a manner that prevents it
from slipping between the buttocks to appear like a G STRING.
• Each competitor will be called onto the stage in numerical order to perform
their individual free routine to the choice of their own music. (Routine is
max 90 seconds).

MOVEMENTS THAT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE ROUTINE ARE :

* ELEMENTS OF STRENGTH the straddle hold, leg extension hold and one
arm push ups. Gymnastics movements such as front and back flips,
handsprings and cartwheels are not considered strength moves – however,
to incorporate them into the routine will show overall creativity and
difficulty.

* ELEMENTS OF FLEXIBILITY high kicks, side splits and/or front splits must
be included. The number of flexible moves and degree of difficulty will be
taken into consideration.

* SPEED the tempo of the routine demonstrates a degree of cardiovascular

fitness, stamina and endurance.

GENERAL ASSESSMENT OF THIS ROUND

• Judges are reminded that you are judging the routine and not the physique in this round
• Look for flow in the routine
• Look for showmanship
• Ensure that the athlete has included all of the movement requirements - and has executed
them well – as well as have they “flowed” into the routine without looking out of place
• Assess choreography and use of interpretation
• Does the attire match the music and routine “theme”

number of groups in order to carry out the quarter turns.

9. BIKINI DIVISION
The Bikini division responds to the increasing worldwide demand for women who keep their bodies
fit and healthy and have a pleasing bikini body. There is not one “ideal’ body for bikini – AND THIS
DIVISION IS FOR THE WOMAN WHO HAS A “BEACH BODY”.

She keeps her body in shape by keeping fit and eating healthy. Muscular definition is not allowed,
but body tone, soft physique, “a bit of curviness” and a healthy overall physical appearance is
essential. Balance of the upper and lower body is important. The girl should present herself in a
healthy & attractive total package.

She needs to be toned, but with much softer lines. She should not have definite muscle, neither
should she present any separation or striations at all. It is important for the girls to know that being
tight and too lean is not what the Judges will look for. She needs to be comfortable with who she is
and with her body – and she must bring her personality. She needs to look like she can leave
the stage and go straight to the beach.

The following will be taken into consideration (but not limited to this list) :

• Overall figure tone with soft lines.

• The presentation of a healthy, balanced & symmetrical figure
• She cannot appear to be too lean and tight
• Femininity
• Complexion
• Hair and make up
• Poise and grace
• Confidence
• Overall presentation

The division available

height classes.

• All swimsuits must be in good taste, and the top and bottom must cover areas adequately.
• Competitors must wear high heels to compliment their costume choice (ie pretty open
sandals or closed pump style shoes) – but no platforms will be allowed.
• Competitors may wear jewelry.
• Hair should be styled appropriately.
• Make up should be applied tastefully (and more naturally).

THERE ARE TWO ROUNDS FOR THIS DIVISION – WITH NO

QUARTER TURNS / NO MANDATORY POSES / AND NO
POSING ROUTINES – AND LADIES WILL WEAR THE SAME

rear stance.

She will then turn and walk to the left side of the stage, stop and
perform a front and back stance – then walk to the right side of the
stage, stop and perform a front and back stance. She will then leave
the stage.

Each time that she stops when doing this, she MAY NOT POSE IN
ANY FASHION THAT IS BODYBUILDING RELATED.

• The judges will now have an opportunity to call on any comparisons.
• A maximum of three girls can be called at one time for a comparison.
• These girls will step out in front of the rest of the line to middle of stage – and stand facing
the judges. The chief judge will call for A FULL TURN and the girls will turn to face
backstage. After holding for awhile, the chief judge will once again call for A FULL TURN

ARTICLE 20 – THE ATHLETES TAN

As from the 2011 season, after much debate, deliberation & valid pertinent reasons - a new ruling
has been established and instituted within the IFBB both INTERNATIONALLY and LOCALLY.
Athletes both male and female may no longer use dream tan or any other “rub off” tan at
competitions.

ARTICLE 21 - IFBB PRO STATUS FOR AN IFBB SA ATHLETE

This segment is a version of the ARTICLE which you will also find within the updated IFBB SA
CONSTITUTION.

All athletes are asked to please kindly take note of the following :-

The IFBB SA would like to award more IFBB PRO CARDS to deserving athletes.
This includes both males and females.

The standard of the athletes in SA has improved tremendously, and is currently on a par with many
of the countries overseas – therefore, it is at this stage of our sport that we are in a good position to
assist our athletes in getting their PRO CARD if this is what their goal is.

It will be up to the athlete to decide if he/she would like to become an IFBB PRO, as much as it will
be entirely up to the athlete to “put in the work” that is required to pursue this goal.

With this said - a Pro Card for an IFBB South African Athlete can only be obtained through the
IFBB SA PRESIDENT.

To ensure the success of the application from beginning to end - there is a procedure that needs to
be followed by the President, but more importantly by the Athlete before the PRO CARD will be
considered, granted and issued.

Please kindly take note of the following :-

Any athlete may apply to the IFBB SA President for their IFBB PRO CARD,
BUT before he/she can do this –
There is a set criteria and requirement in place, (six points below) which is necessary for the athlete
to follow before his/her written application can be presented to the IFBB SA President - and before
this application will actually even be considered and/or taken any further on behalf of the athlete.

• The most important requirement expected of the athlete is that he/she needs to be solely
loyal to the IFBB and not be affiliated to, compete in, and/or guest pose at :

Any other federation show (regardless of the federation and/or nature of the show)
Any “extravaganza show” that is hosted by either a private promoter or another
federation
Any money show that is hosted by either a private promoter or another federation

For a minimum period of two full IFBB Competition Seasons / which is a

term of two years (2 YEARS) - prior to the date of their written application to
become an IFBB PRO.
(THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS PARTICULAR REQUIREMENT)

• The athlete must participate in at least one local show within their Province in each year
(leading up to the Provincial champs and National champs)

• The athlete must participate at their IFBB PROVINCIAL CHAMPS and at the IFBB
NATIONAL CHAMPS in both years

• The athletes must place first in his / her division at least once at the IFBB SA NATIONAL
CHAMPIONSHIPS within that two year period.

• It would be beneficial for the athlete to place as the overall champion at least once at the
IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS within that two year period – (but, this is not a
necessary requirement).

• The athlete must represent IFBB SA at any one of the IFBB WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
and place in the top ten within that two year period.

Once the athlete has achieved all of the above requirements, he/she is one step closer to
realizing their dream. He/she may now address an application in writing to the IFBB SA
PRESIDENT.

The following will need to be included in the initial application :-

• Full personal details (ie, full names, ID, address, contact numbers, email, etc)
• Give a brief background history regarding your involvement in IFBB Bodybuilding / Fitness
• Prior to the two years leading up to the application – list all IFBB achievements
• Attach three clear ‘in shape” color photo’s (ie. Front view, side view, back view)
• Prepare a personal motivation to become an IFBB PRO

Once the IFBB SA President has verified all information on the athlete’s application – the
President will begin his part of the criteria and requirements – and the final step of the
process will begin……………..
