Executive Summery

This report, mainly, a relational study has been done on five variables in the context of

The Oriental Bank Limited. Among the five variables there are four independent variables

denoted as, ease of use of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, usefulness of ATM

card, need for interaction with the employee of the bank, and perceived risk of using ATM

card. The dependent variable of the study is attitude toward using ATM card. From the

literature review it has been found that these four independent variables are related with the

dependent variable attitude toward using ATM card. On the basis of the related literature,

four research questions have been developed and from the research questions four

hypotheses have been developed. Basing on these, the conceptual framework has also been

developed. While doing the study data have been collected from the primary sources,

basically who are the current customers of The Oriental Bank Limited. 105 questionnaires

have been filled up by the current customers of the bank and who had previous experience

in using ATM card. After collecting data those have been analyzed by the statistical

analyzing software named SPSS, version 12. Through this software first of all, the

reliability and alpha value of the items have been found out. All of them were satisfactory.

Then the correlations among the variables have been checked and positive correlation has

been found between the ease of use and usefulness with attitude for using ATM card. That

means, if more useful and easier the use of ATM card people will have more attitude to use

it. In contrast, negative co relationships have been found in the rest of the independent

variables i.e. need for interaction and perceived risk. It means the more need for interaction

or perceived risk realized by the bank customers, the fewer attitudes they would have to

use the ATM card. Besides this, a regression analysis has also been done in this study.

From the regression analysis, it has been found that usefulness can explain 24% of variance

in the dependent variable and another independent variable ease of use can explain 4.5%

variance in the dependent variable. These two variables are also statistically significant. On

the other hand, rest of the variables i.e. need for interaction and perceived risk cannot

explain any variation in the dependent variable. It means need for interaction and perceived

risk either cannot explain or very insignificantly explain the variation in dependent

variable. As a result it has been recommended to the bank to conduct more activities to

inform the usefulness, and the ease of use of ATM card. In contrast, the bank authority

should take proper steps to remove the perceived risk in the mind of the customers’ mind

and need for interaction with their employees, which will also be a betterment for the

employees to perform their task without hassles.
