Flourspar in Mongolia

http://www.mbendi.com/indy/ming/indm/as/mn/p0005.htm

Mongolia was the fifth largest producer of fluorspar in 2003 accounting for 4.2% of the
world's production. Some 860.000 tonnes of fluorspar are mined each year, producing
over 120.000 tonnes of fluorspar concentrate, mostly for export. Fluorite mineralization is
widespread throughout Mongolia in rocks of late Paleozoic to late Mesozoic age. The
major period of formation of economically important mineralization took place during
late Mesozoic to late Jurassic and early Cretaceous time periods. The fluorite
mineralization occurs in two economic types: epithermal vein and metasomatic ore
bodies.
Late Mesozoic fluorite mineralization is associated with rare earth and lead-zinc
mineralization but not in economic quantities. Three major fluorite provinces have been
defined in Mongolia, the North Mongolia, Trans-Mongolian, and South Mongolian
fluorite provinces, with the Trans-Mongolian province having the largest reserves and
being the most actively mined.
The Bor-Undur ore field is a tectonic block bounded by faults on all sides and is the
largest mineralized area in Mongolia. In the core of the block there are Triassic granites
cut by a system of crossing dykes and dyke-like bodies which are composed of fluoritized
breccias of trachyrhyolites. Permain acidic effusives occur to the north whereas late
Mesozoic andesitic basalts are developed to the east. More than 20 orebodies of
economic importance have been discovered within the ore field, which are typically high-
angled vein-like mineralization zones composed of host rock breccias with fluorite and
quartz-fluorite cement. The ore bodies are grouped in four deposits, the Bor-Undur,
Adag, Bayan-Ulaan, and Undur-Ovoo deposits, which are spaced from 2-10 km apart.
The Urgen ore field is one of Mongolia's most important fluorspar deposits and includes
a major calcite-quartz fluorite ore mass of intricate structure and outline which on the
surface extends for 520 m along strike and 30 to 260 m down dip. The width of the mass
is 20-173 m on the surface and 17-113 m at depth. Individual orebodies are composed
primarily of low carbonate calcite-quartz fluorite and high carbonate quartz-calcite-
fluorite ores. The Urgen field has been worked since 1981 and has total reserves 9.0
megatons of ore containing 4.0 megatons of Ca2F with an average grade of 45%.
Undiscovered resources at the deposit are estimated to be 1.1 megatons.

Lotus Acquires Mongolia Fluorspar Licence
Lotus Resources has completed the acquisition of a further fluorspar mining licence for
$70,000.

The licence has been transferred to Lotus Minerals Mongolia LLC, its wholly owned
subsidiary company in Mongolia.

The Tsagaan Chuluut mining licence is located in Dornogobi Province, Mongolia and is
approximately 400 km south-east of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia's capital and largest city.

The Tsagaan Chuuluut project area is located in a geological province that is known for
its fluorspar mineralisation endowment.

The deposit is genetically and morphologically very similar to the country's largest
fluorspar mine (Bor-Ondor) which is located about 70km to the west-northwest of
Tsagaan Chuulut.

Lotus has also increased its shareholding in the Lotus Bayalag LLC joint venture from
65% to 80%.

Lotus has agreed to acquire the 15% stake for $15,000.

An exploration plan has been prepared for this project which will start later this year.
