Before I create a TrueCrypt drive, do the following thing:
Go to C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe , and right-click the program ico
n and go to ¡®Properties¡‾, then click the ¡®Compatibility¡‾ tab , select ¡®Run this progra
atibility mode for¡‾ "Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and click ¡®OK¡‾.

Here is the problem I have found in Vista in my "TrueCrypt other challenges.txt"
file. It gives clues that I might have problems with Windows 7 too:
When I first installed Truecrypt on my laptop's Vista in order to make use of an
external drive full of videos , Vista has problems showing a newly Truecrypt mo
unted drive in My Computer. EVERYTHING search software does not recognize it so
cannot search it.
And I could only open the newly mounted drive from within the Truecrypt window.
And I can only copy to it. I cannot delete nor rename files and folders within i
t.
After a few days, this seems to have fixed itself without me doing anything . We
ird.

{Below are screenshots of popup screens that tell me the TrueCrypt drive I had m
ounted was "Read-Only"}
"Volume * has been mounted as read-only because write access was denied.
Please make sure the security permissions of the file container allow you to wri
te to it (right-click the container and select Properties > Security).
Note that due to a Windows issue, you may see this warning even after setting th
e appropriate security permissions. This is not caused by a bug in TrueCrypt. A
possible solution is to move your container to, e.g., your 'Documents' folder.
If you intend to keep your volume read-only, set the read-only attribute of the
container (right-click the container and select Properties > Read-only), which w
ill suppress this warning."

Stopping the propagation of permission settings leads to an inconsistent state,
in which some objects have the settings but others don't. If you made the change
by mistake, you should apply the correct change immediately to achieve a consis
tent state.
