Problem: A TrueCrypt drive I created in Windows XP could not be written to (i.e.

mounted as Read-only) in Windows 7 in my Dell XPS 17 L701X laptop.

I spent almost one whole day searching for solutions in April 2011, without find
ing solution.

Solution:
Create all future TrueCrypt drive in Windows 7 so that it can be written to in W
indows 7. If it can be written to in Windows 7 , I will have no problem in Windo
ws XP or Vista.
Before I create a TrueCrypt drive, do the following thing:
Go to C:\Program Files\TrueCrypt\TrueCrypt.exe , and right-click the program ico
n and go to ¡®Properties¡‾, then click the ¡®Compatibility¡‾ tab , select ¡®Run this progra
atibility mode for¡‾ "Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and click ¡®OK¡‾.

Here is the problem I have found in Vista in my "TrueCrypt other challenges.txt"
file. It gives clues that I might have problems with Windows 7 too:
When I first installed Truecrypt on my laptop's Vista in order to make use of an
external drive full of videos , Vista has problems showing a newly Truecrypt mo
unted drive in My Computer. EVERYTHING search software does not recognize it so
cannot search it.
And I could only open the newly mounted drive from within the Truecrypt window.
And I can only copy to it. I cannot delete nor rename files and folders within i
t.
After a few days, this seems to have fixed itself without me doing anything . We
ird.

Please make sure the security permissions of the file container allow you to wri

Note that due to a Windows issue, you may see this warning even after setting th
e appropriate security permissions. This is not caused by a bug in TrueCrypt. A
possible solution is to move your container to, e.g., your 'Documents' folder.
If you intend to keep your volume read-only, set the read-only attribute of the
container (right-click the container and select Properties > Read-only), which w
ill suppress this warning."

You probably created the TrueCrypt container in Windows and when mounted it is a
filesystem that MAC does not natively support (ie. ntfs). Either you need to cr
eate a new TrueCrypt container for on the mac or you need to enable support for
windows filesystems on your mac.
