History

Tai Po Sam Yuk Secondary School (TPSY) is a Direct Subsidy Scheme co-educational
Christian school operated byunder the auspices of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
TPSY has been serving the community since 1956. TPSY The school prides itself in
providing a high quality educational programme on a safe and secure campus with a
close-knit and family-like atmosphere. TPSY is open to and accepts all academically
qualified students regardless of their religious background.

Optimal Language Learning Environment

TPSY is an EMI school, dedicating to providing an optimal English learning environment
to students. All the subjects in junior forms, except the Chinese subjects, are taught in
English. The school has a team of foreign teachers helping students improve their
English. On top of it, we offers a number of English-related activities such as lunchtime
movie appreciation, English co-curricular activities, lunchtime Bible recitation, English
enhancement classes, bridging courses and S1 English Orientation Camp, all of which
assist our students in adapting to English instruction. Besides that, students who pass
the Putonghua test may opt to study Chinese Language in Putonghua.

Medium of Instruction
We believe that every child is unique and given by our God. School- based English
Medium Instruction (EMI) classes are available according to students' language
proficiency. Subjects using Chinese textbooks are Chinese History, Religious Studiesn,
Chinese Language, Putonghua, and Liberal Studies. Extra English classes and bridging
programmes after school are provided to help students adapt to EMI. Supplementary
Chinese classes after school are provided for students who need to raise their Chinese
language proficiency.

GCSE – Chinese subject

To take care of non-native Chinese speakers’ need in Chinese language, our school has
now offered a course teaching Chinese as a second language, so as to make it
convenient for them to take General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) (Chinese)
as one of the subjects when applying for university.

To cater for the needs of non Chinese speaking students, the school offers a course in
learning Chinese as a second language. Students may take the General Certificate of
Secondary Education (G.C.S.E.) Chinese exams afterwards to make themselves eligible
for the admission to local universities.

The school has participated in the Project of After-school Extended Chinese Learning for
Non-Chinese Speaking Students. The project is also open to non-Chinese speaking
students from other schools. ; pParticipants will be attending the course at our school.

Extra-Curricular Activities
Our school hasoffers music programmes, special interest groups, academic clubs,
uniformed groups and physical activities. Through multiple activities, students can
develop their leadership skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to
overcome difficulties.

Courses Offered in Junior Forms

Religious Studies, Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics, Liberal Studies,
Chinese History, Science, Putonghua, Computer & Information Technology, Visual Arts,
Music, Design & Technology, Home Economics, Physical Education (S.3 Additional
Course: Geography).

Overseas Exchange
All students will have an equal opportunity to be awarded a visit to our sister schools in
England, the USA or Australia on a 2- to 3-week study exchange programme.

School Fee Subsidies &Scholarships

For the 2012-2013 school year, the school fee for each Secondary One student is $450*
per month, for 10 instalments in a school year.

Pupils who have attained a conduct grade of B or above and have fulfilled one of the
criteria below may be considered for a full or half tuition remission:

1. Primary School Principal’s Nomination Scheme, or

2. Student must rank being ranked academically within the first 20 in his/her Primary 6
level, or
3. Student must bebeing an award/prize winner in inter-school competitions , or
4. Student must bebeing an award winner in “Primary School Writing Contest’
organized by
TPSY, or
5. Student must havehaving a brother or sister studying in our school, or
6. Student is from a family with financial needs.
There are many scholarships for outstanding students of at each level. Details of
application can be obtained from our school office upon admission and registration.

優質語言學習環境
本校為一所英文中學，致力為學生營造優質的英語學習環境。本校初中學科*全以英文及英文教科書教學。
本校特聘請多位外籍英語老師，以提升英語教學水平。為提升學生英語能力，本校設有多項課餘英語活
動，如：午間電影欣賞、英文聯課活動、午間英語聖經經文背誦等。此外，本校特設課後「英語精進班」、
「多元化英語銜接課程和活動」、「中一迎新英語班」等，以幫助學生適應英語學習。

GCSE 中文科
本校為照顧非華語學生在學習中文上的差異，已於初中開設非華語中文課程，讓非華語學生可於新高二
時，報考綜合中等教育證書(中國語文科)（General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE)
(Chinese)）作為其中一門考試科目，以便升讀大學。

本校已參加「非華語學生課後中文延展學習計劃」（Project of After-school Extended Chinese

Learning for Non-Chinese Speaking Students），凡於其他學校就讀的非華語學生，如欲修讀
GCSE 中文課程，均可以於本校報讀該課程。學生將於課餘時親臨本校上課。

課外活動
本校設有音樂、興趣小組、學科學會、制服隊伍、體育及康樂等共四十多項課外活動，以幫助學生多元化發
展。

宗教、中文、英文、數學、通識、中史、科學、普通話、電腦與資訊科技、視覺藝術、
音樂、設計與科技、家政、體育 (中三額外課程：地理)

獎助學金
2012-2013 學年，中一級每月學費為港幣$450*，共十期。凡小六操行達乙等並符合下列其中一項條
件的同學，有機會獲得獎助學金──中一學費半免或全免：

1. 獲「小學校長推薦計劃」推薦，或
2. 小六成績名列全級首二十名之內，或
3. 在學界個人比賽（例如：田徑／朗誦／音樂)中獲得優異或以上的成績，或
4. 獲大埔三育中學主辦「小學即場作文比賽」優異證書，或
5. 有兄/弟/姊/妹在本校就讀，或
6. 家境清貧
