The adjectives and their opposites are grouped together for

Top 100 German Adjectives

1. gut – good: Guten Morgen – good morning! Gutes

Wetter – good weather.

2. schlecht – bad: schlechtes Wetter – bad weather.

3. groß – big, tall: Ich wohne in einem großen Haus. – I

live in a big house.

4. klein – small, short: Er wohnt in einer kleiner

Wohnung. – He lives in a small apartment.

5. richtig – correct, right: Kennst du die richtige

Antwort? – Do you know the correct answer?

6. falsch – wrong, false: Deine Antwort ist falsch. –

Your answer is wrong.

7. lang – long: Maria hat lange Beine. – Maria has long

legs.

8. kurz – short: Sie mag kurze Haare. – She likes short

hair.

9. schwer – difficult, hard, heavy: Diese Übung ist zu

schwer. – This exercise is too difficult.

10. leicht – easy, simple, light: Diese Aufgabe ist ganz

leicht. – This task is very easy.

11. schnell – quick, fast: Die Lieferung war sehr schnell.

– The delivery was very quick.

12. langsam – slow: Das Internet ist heute extrem

langsam. – The internet is extremely slow today.

13. früh – early: Stehst du immer so früh auf? – Do you

always get up so early?

14. spät – late: Wir sind spät ins Bett gegangen. – We

went to bed late.

15. reich – rich, wealthy: Seine Eltern sind reich. – His

parents are rich.

16. arm – poor: Sie helfen armen Menschen. – They help

poor people.

17. alt – old: Meine alte Wohnung war kleiner als die

neue. – My old apartment was smaller than the new

one.

18. jung – young: Die Frau ist jung und schön. – The

woman is young and beautiful.

19. neu – new: Wir haben ein neues Auto gekauft. – We

bought a new car.

20. warm – warm/hot: Ich trinke ein Glas warmes Wasser

mit Zitrone. – I drink a glass of warm water with lemon.

21. heiß – hot: Das war ein heißer Tag. – It was a hot

day.

22. kalt – cold: Sie hat oft kalte Hände. – She often has

cold hands.

23. hell – light, bright: Wann wird es morgens hell? –

When does it get light in the morning?

24. dunkel – dark: Dieses Zimmer ist zu dunkel. – This

room ist too dark.

25. teuer – expensive: Luisa hat eine teure Tasche

gekauft. – Luisa bought an expensive bag.

26. billig – cheap: Kaufst du teure oder billige Kleidung?

– Do you buy expensive or cheap clothes?

27. günstig – cheap, affordable: Gute Qualität zu

günstigen Preisen – Good quality at affordable prices.

28. breit – broad, wide: Wie breit sollte ein Bett sein? –

How wide should a bed be?

29. eng – narrow, tight: Das Kleid ist zu eng. – The dress

is too tight.

30. hart – hard, rigid: Sind harte Matratzen gut für den

Rücken? – Are hard mattresses good for your back?

31. weich – soft, smooth: So kochen Sie das perfekte

weiche Ei. – This is how to cook the perfect soft egg.

32. klug – wise, smart: Das war eine kluge Entscheidung.

– It was a wise decision.

33. intelligent – intelligent, smart, clever: Mein

Bruder ist sehr intelligent. – My brother is very

intelligent.

34. dumm – stupid, silly, dumb: Es gibt keine dummen

Fragen. – There are no dumb questions.

35. dick – thick, fat: Ich bin dick geworden. – I got fat.

36. dünn – thin: Er ist groß und dünn. – He is tall and

thin.

37. offen – open: Das Fenster ist offen. – The window is

open.

38. geschlossen – closed: Warum ist am Sonntag alles

geschlossen? – Why is everything closed on Sunday?

39. sauber – clean, tidy: Ihr Zimmer ist immer sauber

und ordentlich. – Her room is always clean and tidy.

40. schmutzig – dirty, messy: Meine Schuhe sind

schmutzig. – My shoes are dirty.

41. stark – strong, heavy: Starker Regen kann gefährlich

sein. – Heavy rain can be dangerous.

42. schwach – weak: Ich bin krank und fühle mich sehr

schwach. – I am sick and feel very weak.

43. traditionell – traditional: Traditionelle

Weihnachtsgerichte – Traditional Christmas dishes.

44. modern – modern: Wir sind auf der Suche nach einer

modernen Küche. – We are looking for a modern

kitchen.

45. nass – wet: Meine Haare sind nass vom Regen. – My

hair is wet from the rain.

46. trocken – dry: Was hilft bei trockener Haut? – What

helps with dry skin?

47. gesund – healthy: Eine gesunde Ernährung ist Basis

für ein gesundes Leben. – A healthy diet is the basis for

a healthy life.

48. krank – ill, sick: Letzte Woche waren meine Kinder

krank, jetzt sind sie gesund. – Last week my children

were sick, now they are healthy.

49. lecker – tasty, delicious: Das Essen in diesem

Restaurant war lecker. – The food in this restaurant

was delicious.

50. süß – sweet, cute: Ich mag süße Snacks. – I like sweet

snacks.

51. sauer – sour: süß-saure Soße – sweet-sour sauce.

52. bitter – bitter: Ein bitterer Geschmack im Mund ist

ein unangenehmes Gefühl. – A bitter taste in the mouth

is an unpleasant feeling.

53. scharf – sharp, spicy, hot: Ist scharfes Essen gesund?

– Is spicy food healthy?

54. frisch – fresh: Wir haben frisches Obst gekauft. – We

bought fresh fruit.

55. salzig – salty, savoury: Süß oder salzig – welches

Popcorn isst du gerne? – Sweet or salty – which

popcorn do you like to eat?

56. hungrig – hungry: Wenn du hungrig bist, musst du

etwas essen. – If you are hungry, you have to eat

something.

57. durstig – thirsty: Ich habe das Gefühl immer durstig

zu sein. – I always feel thirsty.

58. satt – full: Bist du satt? – Are you full?

59. vegetarisch – vegetarian: Er isst meistens

67. böse – angry, mad: Wieso bist du böse auf mich? –

Why are you mad at me?

68. faul – lazy: Unsere Kinder sind faul. – Our children

are lazy.

69. gefährlich – dangerous: Welche Tiere sind

gefährlich? – Which animals are dangerous?

70. froh – happy, glad: Ich bin froh, dass es vorbei ist. –

I’m glad it’s over.

71. gestresst – stressed out: Sind Sie gestresst? – Are

you stressed out?

72. entspannt – relaxed: Wie werde ich ruhig und

entspannt? – How do I get calm and relaxed?

73. müde – tired: Nach einem langen Tag vor dem

74. glücklich – happy: Bist du glücklich? – Are you

76. gespannt – excited: Wir sind gespannt auf das, was

kommt. – We are excited about what’s to come.

77. bequem – comfortable, convenient: Lena trägt

78. pünktlich – punctual: Er ist immer pünktlich. – He is

always punctual.

79. schön – beautiful, nice: Es war ein schöner Tag. – It

was a nice day.

80. wichtig – important: Welche Versicherungen sind

wirklich wichtig? – Which insurances are really

important?

81. praktisch – practical, useful: Praktische

Erfahrungen aus Praktika sind oft wichtiger als deine

Schulnoten. – Practical experience from internships is

often more important than your school grades.

82. natürlich – natural: Welches Öl hat einen

natürlichen Sonnenschutz? – Which oil has natural sun

protection?

83. unterschiedlich – different: Dieser Rock ist in

unterschiedlichen Größen erhältlich. – This skirt is

available in different sizes.

84. nervös – nervous: Wieso bist du immer so nervös? –

Why are you always so nervous?

85. (un)gültig – (in)valid (many adjectives in German

form the opposite with prefix un-): Du brauchst einen

gültigen Pass, um ins Ausland zu reisen. – You need a

valid passport to travel abroad. Ohne Unterschrift ist

dieses Dokument ungültig. – This document is invalid

without a signature.

86. typisch – typical, normal: Was sind typisch

amerikanische Speisen? – What are typical American

foods?

87. angenehm – pleasant, enjoyable: Paul hat eine

angenehme Stimme. – Paul has a pleasant voice.

88. möglich – possible: Wir reisen so oft wie möglich. –

We travel as often as possible.

89. öffentlich – public, official: Öffentliche

Verkehrsmittel – Public transportation.

90. verantwortlich – responsible: Wer ist dafür

verantwortlich? – Who is responsible for that?

91. bekannt – known, famous: bekannte Schauspieler –

famous actors

92. schwarz – black: Maria trägt gerne schwarze

Kleidung. – Maria likes to wear black clothes.

93. weiß – white: Ich mag dein weißes Kleid. – I like your

white dress.

94. blau – blue: Er hat blaue Augen. – He has blue eyes.

95. grau – grey: Der Himmel ist grau. – The sky is grey.

96. rot – red: Was verursacht rote Augen? – What causes

red eyes?

97. gelb – yellow: Gelb steht mir nicht. – Yellow doesn’t

suit me.

98. grün – green: Grün ist meine Lieblingsfarbe. – Green

is my favourite colour.

99. braun – brown: Welche Farbe passt zu braunen

Haaren und braunen Augen? – What color goes well

with brown hair and brown eyes?

100. rosa – pink: Sie hat ein rosa Kleid gekauft. – She
