Calibration with MetaMax

Initialization
1. Switch on the MetaMax base system. It takes minimum 15 minutes (preferably 30
minutes) to warm up. A short beep is heard as the system is powered. The yellow
light flashes until it is ready for operation.
2. Connect the volume transducer to the ‘violet vol’ socket of the base system and
turn right to fix. Connect the plastic plug-in of the sample line into ‘gas’ socket of
the base system. Do not connect the black plug-in to the volume transducer now.
3. Select the appropriate MaxBelt (available sizes – S, L and M). Slide the Velcro
loop patch in side of the belt to the Velcro hook patch of each housing of the base
system. Insert a slider through each loop to fix the housing to MaxBelt.
Software initialization
1. Connect the dongle key in USB drive of the PC. (In case of laptop, left side USB
is configured for this)
2. Start the MetaSoft 3 software in the PC. (Operator of the software is
‘administrator’).
3. Go to Database and then to Test Subjects from the left side panel of the software.
Default and already entered test subjects are displayed there.
4. To add a new test subject, go to the ‘Add new test subject’ button available in the
main window. (first button of the top panel)
5. Enter the details of the subject as displayed. The * marked fields are compulsory.
Save the data after entering.
Subject preparation
1. Fix the elastic strap of the Polar transmitter belt.
2. Wet the grooved back of the transmitter belt and fix to the thorax of the subject,
the Polar logo being upright. The belt should be fixed tight to the body of the
subject.
3. Select the appropriate face mask (small, medium and large) and fix it to the head
cap. Fix the top clips only to the head cap now.
4. Insert the volume transducer to the face mask. The sample line, already plugged
to the transducer, should be upwards when connected.
5. Put on the base system with volume transducer, facemask and MaxBelt (all are
connected by now) around shoulder of the subject like a scarf. Close the shoulder
mount of the MaxBelt in front. Adjust the position accordingly so that two sides
of the base system is hanging properly from the shoulder of the subject.
6. Pull the head cap with the face mask over the head of the subject. Fix the bottom
clips. Use the straps to adjust fixing so that no air is escaped through sides.
[use a flat hand to cover the volume transducer and ask the subject to breathe
through it. If no air is escaped through sides, the face mask fits properly. If not,
mask should be changed of straps to be adjusted till this is corrected.]
7. connect the earphone to the black audio socket of the base system and put on to
subject’s ear.
8. Now the subject is ready for the test.
Calibration using treadmill
1. In the left side panel of the software, go to Medical Diagnosis and then to CPX
Testing. Select the test subject from the main window top panel. (if you have not
entered test subject, you can add a new test subject here also).
2. Connect the MetaMax base system to the laptop using data cable. Use the USB
converter if necessary. (In laptop, it is configured to COM6)
3. Go for ambient air measurement test from the top panel of the main window. It
will check the device status and perform the ambient air measurement. DO NOT
CONNECT the sample line when performing the ambient air measurement.
4. When completed a beep sound will be heard.
5. Go to ‘define test setting’ button in the top panel of the main window. Go to
‘protocol’. Here select the desired the workload protocol you want to use (the
figure beside will show the protocol feature you are using).
6. Connect the treadmill to the laptop through RS232 port (Use USB converter if
necessary. In Laptop, it is configured to COM4). Switch on treadmill and ask the
subject to stand on it.
7. Go for pre-start measurement from the top panel of the main window. The system
starts. But data will not be stored now. This is for checking of the system.
8. Now start the measurement from the top panel of the main window. System starts
and data recording is done. (Depending on the protocol you selected, there may be
delay in start of treadmill.)
9. While subject is running, acoustic message may be send to him. Go to
‘measurement’ in topmost panel of the software and to ‘send acoustic message’
button. Here you can type a message which will be delivered to the earphone
subject is wearing.

Adding your own protocol for treadmill test

1. In the left panel of the software, go to database and to workload protocol. The
available protocols and their graphical representation are shown there.
2. From the top panel of the main window, select new protocol. Decide on bicycle or
treadmill for the new protocol.
3. A new window opens with speed steps and grade steps option.
4. You can go for a step protocol or your own new protocol. Step protocol will have
fixed speed/grade which you decide for the fixed time. For varying speed or time,
individually select each step.
5. Select start time, duration, velocity at start and end etc for each step. Use insert
/delete button for adding /deleting each step. (the speed is in miles per hour)
6. Select the step type as rest, exercise, break, recovery or target value as the case
may be. If at start, rest step is selected, the system will start after given time.
7. In the same way, give grade at start and at each step as you decide.
8. Complete the protocol for the desired time with recovery, if required. You can
visualize the protocol in graphical form beside the data entry column.
9. Save the new protocol in desired name. Now this protocol also will be added to
the list of protocols available.

MetaMax with telemetry system

1. Screw the antenna on top of the telemetry receiver. Turn it to right to fasten the
antenna.
