• Have you ever sent him/ her a letter?

Let’s read the letter of Ditya to his friend Yogana.

Seoul, 23 September 2007

Dear Yogana,
Hello! This is my first letter to you. We have got an apartment in this big city. It is big enough for
us, four people. I just took a sightseeing. Do you know what? The stadium! It was used for the
Olympic games in 1988. It is really a special sport building. Very big and beautiful. Up to now
the government make special care for the building. Korean athletes are serious. They are very
diligent and disciplined. They are preparing for the next Olympic Games. People told me that the
city was busy when Olympic Games were held. I imagine if I had been living in this city. But I
hope our country will participate in some more branches of sport and can be the winners. I will
send you some pictures of the city including the great stadium.
Well, Yogana I’ll write you again if I have time. But answer my letter, please.

Yours,
Ditya Arifandhi

Now imagine that you were Yogana and write a letter of reply to Ditya.

In your letter tell him you are happy to receive his letter and you thank him for the postcards he
has sent you. You want him to write more letters to you because you want to know much more
about Korea and its capital city, Seoul.

The Four Seasons
To most of us, living in tropical countries, the four seasons in most European, American,
and some Asian countries are not familiar. Summer, autumn, winter and spring come on one after
the other dividing the twelve months of the year into four different seasons.
In countries with four seasons, the temperature differs greatly from season to season. To some of
us, summer weather is familiar. Its temperature or heat is almost the same as that our dry season.
Following the hot summer days, comes autumn, and nature begins to change. The green
leaves change to yellow, red, and brown. Finally, those dry leaves fall to the earth, leaving the
trees with nothing on their branches. Autumn is always beautiful. The falling leaves are colorful.
Cool air makes the season the most popular time for picnics. As the last leaves fall to the earth,
the wind becomes colder. Finally, everything is dull. It is winter. Snow starts to fall, making the
earth and everything white. The temperature drops and the weather is very cold. Just the opposite
of that summer. In the north, the temperature is many degrees below zero.
Then comes spring. Spring seems to give a new life to nature. Having seen mostly white
all winter long, people always welcome early spring joyfully. Young leaves start to grow on the
branches of trees. More beautiful flowers grow after some showers which often come during the
season. Nature is now ready for the next season, summer.

STATE OF THE EARTH-THE FACTS
1995 was the warmest year on record, and the ten hottest years in recorded human history have
all been in the 1980 and 1990s. The earth has this century undergone the fastest warming since

fuels such as oil and coal, which creates a greenhouse effect. A warmer world would bring higher
sea level as well as more frequent floods, droughts and hurricanes.
Carbon Emissions
Industrial nations are still responsible for almost half the carbon emissions, despite making up

After going the entire first half without putting a shot on goal, Germany almost put
one in the net two minutes in to the second half. It came when a corner kick form the
left found the head of Jens Jeremies, but Edmilson saved the day for Brazil, stopping the
powerful header with a stab of his right foot. With the famed Brazilian “R’s” looking frustrated
and Kahn looking unbeatable, fortunes took a turn in favour of the South Americans. Ronaldo
won the ball from Dietmar Hamann in the German half and laid it off for Rivaldo, who fire da
shot from 25 metres right at Kahn. The previously infallible keeper could not holdonto the
seemingly harmless shot, and the ball spilled out in front of the goal for Ronaldo, who pounced to
slot it into the net. Ronaldo needed no mistake from Kahn on the next chance. Kleberson started
the sequence with a run down the right side. he sent a pass into the middle that seemed destined
for Rivaldo, but he dummied brilliantly, drawing a defender and letting the ball roll to Ronaldo,
who shot perfectly from the edge of the area into the lower-right corner of the net.Oliver Bierhoff
almost pulled one back for Germany with a powerful first time shot from 15 metres, but Brazil
goalkeeper Marcos stretched well for the one handed save. And as time expired, Ronaldo could

Masjid Saka Tunggal lies in the south of the alley, which leads into the Taman Sari
PesanggrahanI (a rest-house). This mosque is called Saka Tunggal because of its
single pillar. Unlike other Javanese traditional building, the pillar of this mosque is
supported by a bar of stone called Umpak. It is interesting to know that above
umpak was once used in the palace of the Mataram Kingdom in the Islamic period
or in the period of Sultan Agung. This mosque is still in use.
Masjid Agung (the grand mosque) lies on the western side of the North Square. It is
a place for praying, as well as for holding rituals and other religious ceremonies like
the Garebeg and the Sekaten. Those two ceremonies are held every year to
celebrate the Islamic Holy Days. This mosque thus provides the Kraton with the
space for side religious activities, and it was placed in front of the palace or on the
western of the North Square. This grand Mosque, with its Javanese architecture, has

Dear Mom and Dad,
I am writing to share my enjoyable experience with you. I hope this letter will find
you all well.
Yesterday Budi’s classmates and I went to visit five tourist objects in Yogyakarta
and its surrounding e.g. the Sultan Palace, Tamansari Water Castle, Yogya Kembali
Monument, Prambanan Temple, and Borobudur Temple. We hired a mini bus. Budi, my
closest friend in Yogya, acted as a tour guide. We departed very early in the morning and
were back home at 6.15 p.m. So we spent the whole day. All of the five objects are interesting but
Borobudur and Prambanan Temples are more interesting than the others. Borobudur is a Buddhist
temple, while Prambanan is aHindu one. A friend of mine said that these two temples were really
wonderful. After Isaw them by myself, they are even more wonderful than what I have imagined.
Of these two objects, Borobudur is the most wonderful object I have ever seen. It is much bigger
than Prambanan; it is one of the biggest temples in the world. No wonder it is famous
throughout the world. Everyone there looked very amazed by this huge building. I am
sure you will admire it, too. Make sure you take your camera with you when you visit it
next year.
Well, I will write to you again next week to tell you more about the temples
mentioned above.
Said that the two temples were really.
Love,
Jane
