survey on their customer dissatisfaction. In the Exploratory Research we explore or
search for problem. In this case their customers are dissatisfied from there service. For
this they are doing survey that what reason is accruing in there service. Mishra and
mishra are using this survey because of the following reasons

(1)Formulating a problem or defining a problem more precisely: - mishra and mishra

problem is in primary stage so at first he defines there problem. Why customer are
dissatisfied with their service.

(2)Identifying alternative courses and action

Case no.2:- Demand of the case: - A medium size manufacturer of high speed copiers
and duplicators was introducing a new laptop model. The Vice President of
Communications had to decide between two advertising programs for this product. He
preferred advertising program Gamma and was sure it would generate more sales than
its counterpart, advertising Beta. The next day he was to meet with the senior Vice
President of Marketing and planning to decide on an appropriate research design for a
study that would aid in the final decision about which advertising program to implement.
What research design would you recommend? Justify your choice.

doing more advertisement then what effect comes from sale. In this case we
have to choose between two alternative advertisement campaign.

Case No.3: - Demand of the Case: - Mira Nair, president of Indian Specialties, a
specialty food marketing firm, was convinced that the target audience for her line of
Indian conserves in Mango, Lime, Tomato, and papaya consisted of women, ages 25-
44, with household incomes of Rs. 15,000 and up. Indian Specialties major competitor's
(Asian Flavor) market segment appeared to be more widely dispersed with respect to
both age and income. Mira and her Marketing Vice president, Ratul Seth attributed this
difference to the type of magazines in which Asian flavored advertised. Mira and Ratul
decided to conduct a study to determine the socio economic characteristics of their
firm's market segment. They formed a panel of 800 women ages 18 and up. Mail
questionnaire would be sent to all panel members. One month after receiving all
questionnaires, the company would send similar questionnaire to all panel members
again. In this situation, is research design appropriate? Give reasons why or why not?

ANS: - yes, in this situation research design is appropriate.

Related case: - Longitudinal research design
Reason: - In this survey they want to know the customer’s behavior. What customer
wants from their product. In the given case they are taking 800 women of age 18 and
above, and conducting the survey. They conducted survey through longitudinal
research design. Longitudinal research design involves a fixed sample of population
elements that is measured repeatedly. Mira Nair is also doing same thing in this case.
She takes 800 samples and does survey. After one month she does survey on the
same sample. Why did she take same sample again? Because according to me she
wants to know what change came in the mind of the customer’s about their product. So
this research design is appropriate for the company’s future.

questionnaire to evaluate the importance of 30 product characteristics and to determine
how her firm’s brand and 10 competing brands rate on these characteristics. The
