SPRINT RESISTED NEAR 5950, AS EXPECTED April 09, 2011

After a meteoric rise of 10% in 10 days, markets finally took a breather. Nifty opened the
week with a hefty 1.4% gain on Monday, followed by a flat Tuesday. On Wednesday, after
touching a high of 5944, the level very near to the resistance level of 5950 indicated by us in
last week's report, the benchmark witnessed profit booking which got accentuated on
Friday, after which Nifty finally settled at 5842, gaining 0.3% week-on-week.

We, ever since Nifty broke the 5600 resistance, had been telling that there is no meaningful
resistance before 5900-5950 zone. The benchmark, by touching a high of 5944 this week,
has clearly vindicated our view. After such a heady rise, subsequent consolidation/pull-back
should be seen as a healthy development. The 38.2%, 50% and 61.8% retracement levels
of the 5348-5944 rally, placed at 5716, 5646 and 5575 respectively as shown in the daily
chart below, would serve as the supports on the way down. The 200 day simple moving
average, currently at 5716, coincides with the 38.2% retracement level and makes it a
strong support. On the upside, a decisive crossover of 5944 is required for the further up
th
move. If that happens, Nifty would set it's eyes on 6181, the top made on 4 January 2011.
