The Impact of Financial Restructuring on the Performance of Pakistani Banks: A

DEA Approach

Mian Sajid Nazir and Atia Alam

The IUP Journal of Applied Finance, Vol. 16, No. 1, pp. 71-86, January 2010

Mr. Sajid and Ms Atia have successfully got published their article in the journal of Applied Finance.
They highlighted that Privatization is one of the most sophisticated techniques to improve the
financial position of the banking sector and evaluated the operating efficiency of 28 Pakistani
commercial banks over a five-year period, i.e., 2003-2007, through the traditional method and Data
Envelopment Analysis (DEA) approach. The results of the traditional approach suggest that
privatization cannot help banks in improving their operating income. These results add further
robustness to the findings of the DEA approach of measuring efficiency, which shows that public
banks are better able to cover their interest and non-interest expenses from their corresponding
revenues.

Well done Mr. Sajid and Ms Atia!

Academic Dishonesty and Perceptions of Pakistani Students

Mian Sajid Nazir and Muhammad Shakeel Aslam

Second International Conference on Business, Technology and Engineering (ICBTE-

2010) during 23-24 January, 2010.

Abstract: Academic dishonesty has been a matter of great concern in higher education for last few
decades. The dishonest behavior of students at graduate and undergraduate level has become a
severe issue for education and business sector, especially when the students exercise same
dishonest practices at their jobs. The number of private and public sector universities is increasing;
therefore, the effects of academic dishonest behavior on potential professionals need to be carefully
investigated and appropriate policies must be formulated by academicians in order to resolve this
issue. The present research addresses this matter by investigating the perceptions of students’
towards academic dishonesty and exploring the security and penalties for dishonest acts of
students. A well-structured questionnaire was used to collect the data from 958 respondents
studying at graduate and undergraduate levels in different Pakistani universities. The results
provide a strong implication for academicians to develop the moralities and ethics in students so
that institutions may provide ethically cultivated professionals to the business community.
