Welcome from the Associate Dean
Welcome to the Suleman Dawood School of Business of the Lahore University of Management
Sciences. It is my pleasure to introduce the PhD Management Programme to you as a prospective
candidate who wants to prepare for an academic career of scholarship and teaching in an insti-
tution of higher learning. The focal point of the vision of the Business School and the University
is of gaining a regional recognition for excellence in research. The school offers a research based
doctoral degree program in management; this is in addition to our undergraduate programme
in Accounting and Finance, flagship MBA Programme and the much sought after Executive MBA
Programme.

We see PhD in Management to serve two basic requirements of the school. First, the programme
will strengthen the research culture of the university. Second, the graduates of the programme
will meet the needs of highly qualified scholars in academic institutions of higher learning in the
country in the field of management. Our rigorous programme is in synch with the international
standards and our doctoral graduates shall help in partially fulfilling the needs in research and
academia all over the country.

The Business School is very fortunate to have a highly qualified faculty, trained at the top notch
higher education institutions of the world. We believe our faculty is amongst the very best in the
region and remains active in various avenues of research and scholarship. Our well established

Why Academia?
Pursuing a career in academia can be quite satisfying as
it allows you to grow intellectually as well as financially.
Management professors learn to combine their experience
and skills to facilitate learning, carry out research that
can impact major business decisions and inspire students
in taking steps that aid in creating an original piece of
research. It is like a knowledge hub for the students where
they get to interact with leading organisations and lead-
ers. The students with their bright new ideas create ample
opportunities for themselves to prove a success in the
business world.
You will get an environment of highly intellectual and self
motivated individuals that are committed to learning. You
get to use your mind every day and develop a network of
peers that help in creating something meaningful. You try
to realise your full potential while conducting research and
aim to get recognition on the international front for your
efforts. This could materialise in the form of getting teach-
ing and research opportunities from the top universities
across the globe.
A career in academia is quite flexible and rewarding. It
allows you to look at other avenues of generating income
while you enjoy your time away from regular teaching.
You can be invited to deliver talks by universities, work on
governmental or corporate assignments for a particular
period, conduct research or develop cases etc.
