Usually when people enter the church..they do the sign of the cross..

They dip the forefingers in the holy water and. say blabla bla…Before sitting on their
seat, people usually genuflect( lowering our right knee until it touches the ground at the
same time do the sign of the cross) or bow down. The deacon and the priest enter.
Greetings to everyone and Then they start singing the first hymn. After that the sign of
the cross again. AMEN

Then the priest greets everyone... starts the act of penitence…everyone decleare their
sinfulness before god with the purpose to implore the Lord for His forgiveness and
mercy. They strike their chest 3 times repeating – Minu süü ehk siis through my fault
(though the book said 6 times) . then the priest invites the people to pray ..and they do
it in silence because the know that they are in God’s presence and may formulate their
petitions mentally. Then the priest says the prayer which is usually known as the
Collect…et missa õnnestuks

Liturgy(jumalateenistus) of the Word – 2 readings usually(not on Sundays though, then

3). The first is from the Old testament. The first reading is followed by a
Psalm( sometimes song). The second reading is from the New Testament. After the
reading it’s time for the Gospel(gospel means btw Good news) to be proclaimed…it
starts with singing Alleluia. Then the priest or deacon takes the Book of the Gospel and
tells the people what he is going to read to them.. the people respond “ Glory to you, O
Lord”. Then the minister makes the sign of the cross over the Gospel Reading and then
on his forehead, lips, and heart. Everyone trace that. Then he reads blabla. After the
Liturgy of the Word. those who are not baptized, must leave( we didn’t have to).

Liturgy of the Eucharist (thanks giving) - The linen corporal is spread over the center of
the altar, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist begins with the ceremonial placing on it of
bread and wine ….the priest says a silent prayer on both of them. After that he washes his
hands….to express his desire for interior purification. People start walking towards the
altar with great solemnity(hands folded aso). There are 2 ways to receive the blessed
sacrament: on our tongue or in the hand. When we receive from the cup , we bow and
allow the minister of the cup to present to us. we never take. Then we walk back to our
seats. The communion rite ends with a prayer said by the priest . He invites us to pray.
everyone stands up and there’s a brief moment of silence. The prayer gives thanks to
God for the Eucharist we have received. We answer this prayer with “Amen”, making it
our own.

After the communion rite, we receive our final blessing and we are sent forth. It’s the so
called dismissal. At the the end of the mass the priest goes to the altar and kisses it. The
priest starts packing up and the people start leaving. As you leave your pew or seat you
should face the altar and either bow or genuflect , while making the sign of the cross.
Like when you entered.
The mass ends with a GO! Or dissmissal
