Recent developments on the Social Network front

Source: http://www.bnet.com/article/social-networking-for-business/219914

Social networking may sound fluffy, but it can translate into real benefits for you and your company. William Baker, a professor of marketing at San Diego State
University, surveyed 1,600 executives and found that firms that rely heavily on external social networks scored 24 percent higher on a measure of radical
innovation than companies that don't. Online networks can help you hire the right people, market your product — or even find a manufacturer. Here are a couple of
professionals who used social networks to change the game.

Finding Unexpected Collaborators

Saverio Gentile, a visiting fellow in the neurobiology laboratory at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, had been using within3.com, a social
network for doctors, to discuss medical journal articles. While mulling over a paper on nicotinic receptors, he connected with two researchers he’d never worked
with before — though they were all in the same building. Working together, Gentile and his new-found colleagues, Elaine Gay and Jerrel Yakel, discovered a
possible mechanism that can explain why nicotine receptors work the wrong way when associated with congenital myasthenia gravis, a hereditary disease that
causes severe muscle fatigue. The front end includes the client's computer (or computer network) and the application required to access the cloud computing
system. On the back end of the system are the various computers, servers and data storage systems that create the "cloud" of computing services. In theory, a
cloud computing system could include practically any computer program you can imagine, from data processing to video games. Usually, each application will
have its own dedicated server.

Building a Global Business from Scratch

When Nick Kellet got in touch with a former co-worker through LinkedIn, he was interested to hear that she was teaching Chinese to the inventors of the board game
Cranium to help them work with their factory in China. Kellet had recently left his job to publish a board game of his own, called GiftTRAP. His friend arranged an
introduction to the factory owners in Shanghai, and soon Kellet had a manufacturer for his game. Next he turned to photo-sharing site Flickr and found images from more
than 500 different photographers that he could legally use for his game. Once GiftTRAP had been produced, Kellet used social networks to find buyers at Wal-Mart and
Toys “R” Us. Then he plugged into BoardGameGeek to connect with influential players in the tabletop-gaming community and get his product into the hands of
reviewers. The long hours online paid off. Games Magazine declared GiftTRAP the best party game of 2008; it has been translated into eight languages and is now in its
third print run. Kellet isn’t done with social networking, either — he’s just developed a Facebook application that lets people play his game online.

STRICTLY BUSINESS: Dress Code for Job Hunters

For those looking for a new job; strictly business professional is the best way to go. Your interview attire should send the message that you can fit into
the work environment. Here are some tips for looking your best on that job interview:

Suit: The most appropriate suit colors are black, navy and charcoal. Your buttoned-up blouse or shell should not be sheer; silk and cotton impress
best.

Shoes: Shoes with 1- to 2-inch heels are appropriate, and should be polished and in good condition.

Accessories: Jazz up your suit with a tasteful (and trendy) brooch or classic jewelry. But jewelry should be kept to a minimum. Body piercing (in nose,
tongue, eyebrows) is generally unacceptable in a corporate environment.

Hair: Your hairstyle should be neat and your hair color should be natural-looking and complementary to your complexion. Wild colors (blue, pink,
platinum streaks, etc.) and hair glitter are a no-no.

Nails: Short nails are ideal. Long exotic and colorfully designed nails send the wrong message to a potential employer: that you are more concerned
about pretty nails than you are about producing quality work.

The Ambassador Council

The Ambassador Council is one of the most important councils under the EFC umbrella.

This council brings in the flavor of fun and entertainment across the organization. Its flagship
event, ‘Fundoo Friday’, is very famous at HCL and is a breath of fresh air on Fridays after a
long hard week. The Ambassador Council conducts various spot events and online quizzes,
crosswords and puzzles. It also conducts birthday bashes on the last Friday of every month.
Overall it is a council that revs up the excitement quotient at work place because we believe in
the mantra ‘work hard, party harder!’

Technology moves at the speed of light in today’s world. And mobile phones are possibly the best examples of this rapid advancement. Every few
weeks, a new phone hits the market, with never seen before features, claiming to be the final word in the latest technology.

In this edition, we review the Samsung I9003 Galaxy SL, a phone that is currently making quite a buzz in the market.

Source: www.gsmarena.com

Success breeds imitation and we have the next Galaxy S remake to bear witness. But make no mistake about it – the Samsung I9003 Galaxy SL is not just another clone. This
time changes aren’t just skin deep.
We are talking a new screen, a new CPU and a different battery here. Although it’s actually hard to notice a difference on the outside, save for a slightly thicker body. Basically
most of the internals have been replaced, which may have or may have not resulted in a significant change in the user experience.
The Samsung I9003 Galaxy SL, however, is a victim of timing. It couldn’t have been less fortunate to follow in the footsteps of the original Galaxy S – knowing it will never be
able to catch up. At least Samsung should know perfectly well what to expect.

This is not the first flagship they’re forced by circumstances to replace. Much like the S8530 Wave II, the I9003 is more of a substitute, rather than an upgrade. You can think of
the I9003 SL as a way to make sure there will be enough AMOLED panels for the Galaxy S2 without the need to discontinue the original Galaxy S altogether
The AMOLED shortage is to be felt for at least another while and Samsung are trying hard to work their way around it. We’ll have to see how this next attempt plays out. The
I9003 has many people to convince that it’s a good enough replacement. Users have every right to be skeptical. It will take a good deal of persuasion to
keep them from spending their cash elsewhere.
