Finding the right Mother’s Day gift

STATEPOINT MEDIA

No two moms are alike. Whatever her interests,

finding a gift that fits mom just right shows you’ve put thought into it, rather than simply choosing some- thing off the shelf. This Mother’s Day, why not thank Mom for every- thing she does, with a gift that celebrates her one-of- a-kind personality? “Most moms don’t pamper themselves a lot, so customizing a gift that speaks to her hobbies and per- sonal style will feel like a real indulgence,” says Amy Myers, vice president of creative services for Things Remembered. Here are some ideas to help you find the perfect gift:

recharge her batteries between play dates and grocery trips, she’ll appreciate a gift that helps her unwind. A gift certificate to her favorite place to relax — a spa, coffee shop or even a bookstore — can be just want she wanted. Or you can hire a cleaning service and baby- sitter for the day.

n Techie Mom: Maybe she has her own blog, or

she’s always first in line to buy the latest tech gad- get. If so, look for techie gifts with a personal touch. Nameplates are now available on everything from iPad cases to laptops. And by adding a simple engrav-

ing, like “Chief Executive Mother,” you can make the gift more meaningful. Alternatively, you can look for portable gifts that

make her life easier. For example, Things Remem- bered offers a USB photo keychain that lets Mom keep her loved ones — and her work — with her at all times.

n Matriarch Moms: Proud moms and grandmas

love to brag about their families. Between smart phones and computers, photo sharing has never been easier. Grandmothers, however, are often left out in this digital age. Consider researching the family gene- alogy online and create a family tree. Or you can give a traditional gift a twist by engraving a personalized message on a picture frame or photo album. Some re- tailers even offer multiple birthstone jewelry as a way to cherish each child.

GIFT: With a little thought and foresight, you can get your mother a gift she’ll treasure for years. (Courtesy Photo/Getty Images, Statepoint Media) n On-The-Go Mom: After having kids, it seems like there are never enough hours in the day. For the mom who makes the most out of every second, opt for a practical and portable gift. Tote bags make a stylish gift and are great for pool days or shopping trips, es- pecially when monogrammed with her initials. Or, to help mom freshen up on the way to her next event, consider getting her a perfume atomizer and matching compact. When engraved with a special message, her one-minute makeover will remind her how beautiful and loved she is. For more personalized gift ideas, visit www.Thing- sRemembered.com.

What is health?

Traditional medicine would say it is the absence of disease. But, health really is having a vital energy every day to do the things that one wants to do with no limitations. Our first level of health is what we were born with. This is called the constitution. This is a summation of the influences of the pregnancy and the genetic tendencies. Even before birth, we begin to be touched by the world around us. Toxic exposures, infections, physical trauma, emotional shocks all begin to exert their influence on our constitutional level of health. Some of these influences may cause us to experience a lower lever of health. We may recover fully or we may only recover partially. As we go through the years, the constant impacts create changes in our level of health. A young woman I know was told by her doctor during a pelvic exam that it looked like she had cancer of the cervix. This was a tremendous shock. She said she felt it in her head and chest like a punch. This emotional shock can have a life long impact. It turned out the Pap smear was normal, no cancer. Why did the doctor not wait until she had results? This is really unacceptable. A young boy crashes his dirt bike and severely injures his shoulder. This event will have emotional and physical impact his whole life. If our recovery and self-healing potentials are greater than the insults to our body, mind and spirit then we will retain a

reasonably good level of health. If the insults (often self inflicted) are greater than our self healing ability we will begin to experience acute and then chronic illness which may eventually become degenerative beyond the point of repair. These conditions are then named as diseases. As parents we can do our best to maintain a good fetal environment for our child. Then as the child grows from infancy to adult hood, we do our best to reduce toxins, provide good water, food, etc. Accidents do happen. We cannot live in a bubble. But we can attempt to reduce the physical and emotional shocks. We encourage our growing children to avoid the tobacco, alcohol, caffeine, sweets, things that are known to be detrimental. We can do periodic cleanses (liver, colon, gallbladder, heavy metal) to remove the accumulated toxins. Use prayer and meditation to remove the emotional shocks that may be affecting our mind and spirit. Homeopathic medicine can remove the bad effects of physical and emotional trauma. I gave the young lady some high dose homeopathic Gelsemium and the young lad some Arnica. This will do something to reduce the shock of these events. Use food and nutrition, herbs and supplements, cleanses and other natural methods to build your self-healing and recovery mechanisms. This is how to remain healthy your whole life.

mechanisms. This is how to remain healthy your whole life. Put Your Health in Your Own

Walter is a very hand- some and friendly Husky/ Malamute mix boy. He was picked up as a stray on March 31st, and we hope his old owner is out there looking for him. His coat is black and white; he is about 1 year old and weighs about 70 pounds. He will be looking for a new home starting April 7th, unless he is claimed before. Walter will have basic shots, but needs follow up vaccines once he goes home. Come in and meet him!
