Hey Mate

when you post up the pics, do you mind kinda summarising the whole project, items used, c hanges required, measurements if possible

I'm sure this type of mod would help A LOT of people on the forum contemplating a similar mod (I know I am)

Thanks in advance
Martin

re: srping rate - sorry i don't know the spring rate. i was just told by my friend the spec s. so the closes c oils i found at the surplus store was
this

dimensions are 5.5 x 17 x 5/8

the shop owner pulled them out from a mountain of springs so he also doesn't know from what rig it came from.

re: panhard - yes. the panhard from a gq was used.

hi martin,

fabrication of the coil conversion is finished. but i still want to do some stuff. but i will summarize what has been done. but i won't be able to
give you any measurements cuz i was not the one who did the fabric ation or c onversion.

it took me some time to dec ide what kind of suspension i wanted. and it also took me some time to gather all the main parts. cuz i wanted all
the parts ready before the actual c onversion takes plac e. main c omponents i gathered were the panhard, radius arms, and springs

day 1

left my rig with my friend in balayan, batangas (100km from manila). he started by removing the leaf springs, sping seats. then installing the
radius arms. fortunately, the pajero radius arms c ame with brac kets. my friend just extended the brackets.

patrol4x4.com/forum/…/index3.html 5/18
2/11/2011 front coils on my mk lwb - Page 3 - Pat…

he told me that he off set the brackets inward. this is to inc rease c learace of the tires from the radius arms. to maintain the height. he
welded pipes on the chasis and diff

the front c ross member had to be cut to make way for the radius arms.

patrol4x4.com/forum/…/index3.html 6/18
2/11/2011 front coils on my mk lwb - Page 3 - Pat…

that took the most of the day. cuz he also had to remove all the c omponents of my reverse shackle mods.

day 2

he made the brac kets for the radiuse arms to the diffs

patrol4x4.com/forum/…/index3.html 7/18
2/11/2011 front coils on my mk lwb - Page 3 - Pat…

installing was tricky cuz of the diff housing. i don't know how my friend welded it. in addition. i did not want to remove the stabilizer. so he
had to relocate the stabilizer mounts

to save on c osts. tried to use as muc h orininal c omponents that came from my rig. for the stabilizer bar. he reverse the bracket to clear the
radius arm

a week later when i got to visit. he was at the stage of installing the lower spring seat.

patrol4x4.com/forum/…/index3.html 9/18
2/11/2011 front coils on my mk lwb - Page 3 - Pat…

at that time i was brought with me the springs he requested. so we did a mock up

then another week past. on my next visit he installed the panhard and finished fabric ating the upper spring seats. unfortunately, i did not
bring a camera.

week after. the upper spring seat was installed and it was ready for an initial test. test was good. but i wanted him to install bumpstops. so i
had to buy some in manila and sent them thru another friend. the round bumpstops i got are for the isuzu elf.

so this is how it looks as for now

this is how the top spring mount looks like. he used to original shox bracket to hold the shox

patrol4x4.com/forum/…/index3.html 13/18

had to leave my rig at our garage in balayan. hopefully, i'l be able to bring it back to manila by the end of the week.

First of all, Mintoy, that is an awesome job that your mate has done, very cool indeed!! Thanks for all the pictures, muc h appreciated

If anyone is keen to know, to get Yuri to do it, with coil overs (front and bac k), it's about 8 grand So probably only worth looking into if
you do it yourself... Or you're nuts for the MQ/MK... So yeah, don't ask how I know LOL

Awesome mate. I had a scary feeling it was today I was meant to come round but it wasn't so all good. HOWEVER. My rig is still off the road
with the tailshafts out...so I can't bring the engine stand around.

$500 a ****ing pop to c ompletely overhaul my shafts.

Coils would make up for it though. Mintoy, thats a really tidy conversion. And abit more in my budget, c an't afford to spend 8k although I'd
like to

i sourced a new driveshaft for my VN the other week, I found a reputable local joint that would make a brand new 2 piece to my specs for
$700. maybe you should shop around a bit more.

We don't have too many places to shop around with unfortunately. And I need my truck as well. Bike doesn't sit well with torrential rain...

finally got to drive my rig up the mountain today. ride was great. but shox is bit soft c uz i felt the diffs hit the bumpstops a few times. will
try installing stiffer shox in the future. but still have some bumpsteering issues. after some disc ussion we found the problem. it was the
steering damper setup.

when we removed the steering damper. steering was fine.

the 100km drive back to manila was suc h a pleasure. ride is very comfy. would have been perfect if the a/c was working...hehehe

plan this weekend is to reloc ate the steering damper and have the a/c repaired.

this project was well worth it. i'm very happy

will post more pics onc e we figure out the new steering damper setup.

patrol4x4.com/forum/…/index3.html 17/18

it solved the problem of the bumpsteer. but i am still debating if the damper setup of the gq will be better (damper is connected to the
panhard and steering link). what do you guys think?
