The financial woes of the past two years has hit the global construction market. The U.S. market
remains in recession, and the worrisome debt burdens of several European countries and the
weakness of the Euro have left many large international design firms struggling. However, not all
is doom and gloom as many regions around the globe have provided bright spots for some large

The international design market is feeling the impact of the
global financial woes of the last two years, which can be seen
from the results of ENR’s Top International survey. ENR’s
Top 200 International Design Firms earned $52.45
billion in design revenue in 2009 from projects
outside their home countries, a decline of 0.3% from
the $52.62 billion they earned in 2008. Total design revenue
for the Top 200 fell 4.2% in 2009 to $111.81 billion.
