Weekly Home Group Guide

Week of April 24-30

Belong
Welcome
Greet each other with a “holy hug” as HG members arrive. Be sure to make everyone feel EXTREMELY welcome!

Opening Prayer
Take a moment to officially welcome any guests or highlight anything significant to the group just before you pray (e.g.,
birthday, anniversary, special prayer need, etc.) You might ask someone who is comfortable praying out loud to thank God
for the food & ask for His blessings on the HG. IMPORTANT: It’s best to ask someone privately.

Become (Spiritual Disciplines, Care) // Pick at least one from each category to use in leading your group
Suggestions for Family Time
A) Ask if any of the adults trusted in Jesus as their Savior when they were a child. See if one or two of them would tell the
group the story of their salvation. Ask if any of the children would like to share how they trusted in Jesus as Savior.
B) Divide up into teams (adults with kids). Play a game called the Core Comp Quiz! Take turns by team & read one CC
creed (description) to that team. Let them have a chance to identify the Competency that goes with that creed. Award
points...give prizes...everyone wins!!! For example: “I give away my life to fulfill God’s purposes.” (answer: Giving Away My
Life). *Use the Scrolls to give a full list of all the Core Competencies and creeds (see back page).

Suggestions for Kids Time

A) Look up the story of the crucifixion & resurrection in John chapters 19 & 20. Let the older kids take turns reading por-
tions of the story. If you have younger children, just have an adult read the story to them. Suggested reading: John 19:19-
20:18. Ask the kids to talk about how they would feel if they were there & watching all this take place.
B) Get a good animated children’s video of the story of the crucifixion & resurrection. Show the video & ask the children
how Jesus kept showing His love for us over & over again.
C) Put kid-friendly puzzles together as fast as you can. Set a timer for added excitement! When the puzzle is done, ask the
kids, “How good does it feel to finish? Remind the kids of Jesus’ words on the cross before He died. “It is finished!” What
did Jesus mean when He said that? Help the kids to understand that Jesus finished the “Mission” that He came to do...to
die on the cross & pay the price for our sins.

Suggestions for Adult Time

A) When Jesus said, “It is finished!” on the cross, what was He referring to? As one who has placed their faith in Jesus
Christ to save you from the penalty of your sins, how do these words make you feel?
B) When a person is saved, they are born again (new life); they begin their “walk” with Christ. If you were giving a new
believer advice (re: important 1st things they should know/do) what would you tell them?
C) The death of Christ on the cross was absolutely necessary for us to be forgiven. Was Jesus’ resurrection absolutely nec-
essary? Explain your answer. (*Leaders: don’t be quick to answer this for them. Let them think & talk about it.)

Suggestions for Prayer Time

A) Praise the Lord! Praise Him for His sacrifice! Praise Him for His grace, His mercy, His presence in our lives! Praise Him!
B) Read Hebrews 9:11-14. Thank the Lord for being our High Priest & also the Lamb of God. He offered His blood for us!
