Sarai Cooking System: This is a portable stainless steel device

operating on the combination of principles of steam cooking and retained
heat cooking. This has been hailed as one of the cleanest ways of using
charcoal for household cooking. In the medium sized system, just about
100-125 gm of charcoal is sufficient for cooking pulses, rice, and a
vegetable or meat for a family of 5 persons. The charcoal to be used can
either be ordinary wood charcoal, or charcoal left over in a wood burning
stove, or char briquettes made from agricultural waste. The Sarai system
comes in four sizes - the small size is for 1-2 persons, the medium size is
for a family of 4-5 persons, whereas there is a large size for a family of 8-
10 persons. In case, rice is the prime food, it is recommended to go for
the large size version even for smaller family sizes. The Jumbo size is useful for cooking rice, or
boiling vegetables, etc., on a large scale for a small eatery or food processing business, etc.
About 2 kg of rice can be cooked at a time, using just 0.5 kg of charcoal.
Price of Stove: Small size: INR 825 Medium size: INR 1150
Large size: INR 1600 Jumbo size: INR 2900

Sampada Gasifier Stove: This is a portable metallic stove, with a

stainless steel outer body. The fuel should be in the form of dry woody
twigs, or wood shavings or wood chips. Fuel feeding is from the top. One
full charge of fuel keeps the stove in operation for about 1 hour. The
special feature of the stove is that charcoal is left behind in the fuel holder
after the stove operation. Thus, the stove not only delivers clean cooking
but also produces a valuable bye product in the form of charcoal. The
stove is suited for high flame/fast cooking at home or commercial
establishments. It is possible to cook 40 chapatis in one hour on just 1 kg
of dry wood chips.
Price of Stove: INR 1500

Vivek Sawdust Stove: This is a portable metallic stove specially

designed for using sawdust as fuel. The fuel needs to be packed in the
stove, around a metallic cylinder. The cylinder is then removed leaving
an L shaped cavity in the packed biomass. A small burning stick of wood
is inserted through the inlet near the bottom. The exposed layer of
biomass in the vertical tunnel ignites, and the heat is utilized for
gasification of the inner layers. The pyrolysis gas comes into the tunnel
and rises up, igniting just under the cooking pot placed on the pot
holders. Due to its optimal design, the stove produces a clean blue flame. One full charge of fuel
(about 4-5 kg sawdust) keeps the stove burning for about 4 hours.
Price of Stove: INR 850
Bharat Laxmi Stove: This is a single pot fixed stove. It consists of eight insulating cement bricks.
The bricks are joined together with metal wires and are to be fixed in mud or cement platform.
The stove is provided with a metallic grate to be placed at the bottom of the firebox. An air tunnel
below the grate ensures adequate air supply to the fuel and better combustion. Any household
pot can be placed on the pot raiser placed on top of the stove. This stove consumes 50% less
fuel than traditional chulha and also releases 50% less smoke. Any fuel that is used in traditional
chula can be used in the stove, without requiring any major change in user behavior regarding
lighting and controlling the fire.
