Preliminaries

PROTECTION AND SECURITY

1.1 Protection of the Works

A The Contractor shall allow for providing all necessary temporary


chutes, screens, tarpaulins and other coverings for protecting
the works during inclement weather and making good all injury
from whatever cause to every part of the work. The Contractor
shall allow for covering up and protecting from injury from any
cause whatever concrete or other works. The Contractor will
be required to make good all or any damage caused by falling
of materials and by the depredations of workmen and shall
leave all work perfect, clean and tidy at completion.

1.2 Fencing/Hoarding

B The Contractor is to allow for providing temporary hoarding,


fencing and gates as he considers necessary to protect the
Site and Works. The Contractor will be permitted and
recommended to construct the fences and gates at the commence-
ment of the contract and will be permitted to utilize these as
part of his site hoarding. The fences and walls shall be made
good on completion and left in a perfect and workmanlike
condition.

PLANT AND EQUIPMENT

1.3 Scaffolding and Plant

C The Contractor shall allow for providing all scaffolding, hoisting


and transporting equipment, tools, machinery and other plant
and appliances required in connection with the proper execution
of the Works.

INSURANCE

D 1.4 The contractor shall allow for providing contractors


all risk insurance.

UTILITIES FOR CONSTRUCTION


(Including Temporary Installations)

1.5 Lighting and Power for the Works

A The Contractor shall allow for temporary connection to the


electric main, installing meter, providing all necessary lightings
and power for the works including that required by sub-
contractors and site offices, etc., providing all cables and
leads, etc., and paying all charges. The installation must be
carried out and operated in compliance with Government and
the Supply Authorities Regulations.

1.6 Water for the Works

B The Contractor shall allow for making a temporary connection


to the water mains in the complex and for providing all
necessary temporary plumbing, storage tanks and water for the
Works including that required by Sub-contractors and paying
all charges incurred and for clearing away all temporary work
on completion. The Contractor must comply with all the
regulations and requirements of the appropriate water authority.

The Contractor should note that if water is not available from


the mains, he shall allow for trucking water to the site and
providing the necessary pumps, tanks, etc.

WORKERS' WELFARE

1.7 Safety Measures

C The Contractor shall allow for providing and maintaining all


measures, which under or by virtue of the provisions of
any enactment of regulation or the working rules of any
industry or the Architect's instructions, the Contractor is
required to take for the safety of the work people
employed on the site by himself or any Sub-contractors.

1.8 Engineers, Supervisors, etc.

A The Contractor will be required to establish and maintain a


level of site supervision which is adequate and competent to
supervise the project.
